Day 215

Aug. 1st, 2014 08:00 pm
wayofvoice: (Zun Haal Viik + Where you used to be)
[personal profile] wayofvoice
Who: Paarthurnax and you
Open: Open
When: Day 215, morning and afternoon
Where: Across the river from Dragonfield
What: Dragon lessons are best held in groups, don't you know? Plus, a survey.
Format: Any
Notes: The two separate situations, for sake of ease, will be in two different top threads. Consider the dovahzul group a sort of mingle! Get to know your fellow students better.

In the time between morning and noon, Paarthurnax settles down by the river of Dragonfield where the usual stone tablet depicting all the letters of dovahzul is. It's a recognizable landmark, after all... Although he won't turn away new faces.

During the afternoon, anyone venturing nearby will be called to by the old dragon. Investigate?

Who: Rob, OPEN
Open: Open
When: Day 212
Where: The entrance to the Bastion, the Onsen, the Distillery, and moving between those places.
What: Rob survived a solo trip to the Skyway and returned with unwarranted optimism. And bruises. Lots of bruises.
Format: Any, will match
Warnings: Poor decisions. Pain.

Cut for private pre-post stuff and epic Rob vs. Squirt action )

A black eye, a skinned elbow, a skinned knee, an aching groin, and a wide variety of bruises across most of his body. All for 32 shards and a backpack a third full of random junk. Rob re-entered the Bastion sore, dusty, drenched in sweat, and in a surprisingly good mood. In fact, he felt better than he had since his arrival. As exhausted as he was, as much adrenaline had coursed through his body in the last few hours, as afraid for his life as he'd been a few times, he also felt a sense of accomplishment that he wasn't used to; he'd just gone out, fought monsters, and survived mostly intact. He'd burned off a bit of pent-up aggression and had come out the other side feeling both like he'd really lived and that this was something he was capable of succeeding at. He wasn't sure why he was feeling the way he was, but that was something he'd need to figure out later. For now he needed to soak in hot water and sleep. He doubted that he'd be able to do this again tomorrow otherwise. Or probably even if he did; this kind of soreness wasn't likely to go away completely overnight.

Rob can be found at the entrance, soaking in the Onsen (and probably falling asleep in the water for a bit), scarfing down something at the Distillery (possibly with a glass of Mender's Mead), and traveling between those locations and his cottage. If his bruises aren't a hint as to what he's been up to, his clinking backpack, the knife and sheathed sword on his belt, and the round shield he's carrying will probably give that information.

Who: Rosethorn and anyone
Open: Wide open!
When: Day 187
Where: All around the Bastion. (Farm and Kitchens in particular)
What: Rosethorn harvests plants, takes over the kitchen for medicine making, and searches for fabric. Green fabric, specifically.
Format: Prose preferred, but either's okay! (non-smalltext also preferred at the moment)
Warnings: Sometimes sharp-tongued/tempered

Rosethorn spends her morning making trips between the farm and home, gathering ingredients. She can be caught at any point of this repeated journey, always with a roughly woven sunhat on her head and basket on her arm. The tasks are familiar, even if she still wishes for Discipline cottage and her own garden.

Come midday, the Kitchens don't smell bad, exactly, but if anyone's trying to sniff out lunch, they might be disappointed. Rosethorn has several pots bubbling away on the stove, cutting boards piled high with chopped plant matter, and none of it's good for you unless you're sick. It's medicine-making day, and the resident lady plant mage has taken over the kitchens. She's working in batches too big to manage in her tiny kitchen. Rosethorn works with the brisk ease of someone who's performed these tasks for years. She smiles at the pots on the stove, breathing in their scent. It's soothing, and Rosethorn knows better than to prepare anything that's dangerous to breathe in a communal kitchen.

Once she finishes with her medical projects, it's time for a quest. Rosethorn needs fabric. Her robes are beginning to become threadbare, and given they symbolize her religious dedication, she's understandably reluctant to lay them aside for any existing clothes. She'll be asking if anyone knows where she might find some, and she's willing to offer trade if anyone has dark green cloth. Lark and Sandry would be dismayed by the state of Rosethorn's clothing.

What: Hikaru is finally all healed up from his crash landing, and is out on a mission to meet everyone he possibly can.

Who: Zulf and you
Open: Open
When: Day 163
Where: Throughout the Bastion
What: Well, someone has to take up the kitchen work, and prepare Night's funeral, and write down the history and culture of two different cities...
Format: Anything
Warnings: Nothing immediately comes to mind, although it should be noted that Zulf is in a bad state mentally/emotionally so depending on the conversations, things could be described. Lemme know where you want to run into him!

As soon as he's able, Zulf leaves the hospital. It's not like he deserves to be there, after all, not with the dead, not with the injured. He's fine, isn't he? Besides... There's too much to do. So on the 163rd day of the Bastion's existence, feel free to run into him just about anywhere looking exhausted in nearly every way imaginable.

...Unless your name is Raile, Zia, Rucks, Colin, Rin, Zayna, Zahi, Nathaniel, or Rosethorn. In which case, seeing any of those individuals makes the man startle before immediately trying to find a way to leave the area before conversation can happen. Seriously, he will bolt if he has to, don't make him change from a quick walk.

Periodically throughout the day, Zulf can be found in the kitchens...

And I rationed my breaths as I said to myself that I'd already taken too much today )

Sometime in the morning after breakfast, it's off to the the Hitachiin-Abe home.

But I knew that you were a truth I would rather lose than to have never lain beside at all )

amnesiadragon: (tiny village in the desert)

Who: Ryu and anyone who will humor him with questions.
Open: Open
When: Day 151
Where: All around the Bastion.
What: Ryu has some difficult questions for people.
Format: Either
Warnings: Possible mention of death/war/other upsetting topics. His questions today are running on the existential side.

After all the excitement of the day, Ryu is still left with questions. He just doesn't understand why people hurt each other, or go to war. He doesn't understand why people have to fight. None of this makes sense. And his heart hurts at thinking about all of these things, so there's really only one thing to do.

In the evening, Ryu approaches people, gently clearing his throat or tugging their sleeve if it doesn't look like that will provoke violence. It doesn't really matter the age - he knows he's one of the youngest in the Bastion anyway, even if he doesn't look it. Still, the worry in his eyes is evident as he speaks softly.

"... Do you mind answering some questions?"

When:
Day 151
Where:
Throughout the Bastion
What: Tension has fallen over the Bastion, and it's time to sort out truth and anger.
Format:
Any
Warnings:
Drama

A few days ago, some residents of the Bastion might have become aware of a confrontation happening at a certain Ura's humble abode. There was some yelling- although not clear- and the result was a very harried looking Rin Okumura forcibly dragging away resident Mancer Nathaniel. The next couple of days have been quiet, but today... Well, if anyone wants to ask about and see what the deal was, it seems like today is the day.

It seems like Nathaniel has finally quit his own self imposed isolation, if only so that he doesn't starve to death. Apparently anger can only sustain a man for so long. He can be seen storming through the Bastion, a thundercloud practically gathered about him, or at the eating area looking very much like he wants to be left alone.

Zulf has been less of a hermit. Anyone who has seen him since the argument has probably noticed his black eye and sore nose. He seems angry as well, although it's quieter and colder underneath all his civility. More noticeably, he's been hard at work building a few fences near the edges of the Bastion- mostly near his tent but also in other areas as well. They're not the best fences, but they're good enough, hopefully. You can approach him at the shrine, his tent, or anywhere, really... He's as available as he's always been. He might even approach you, just to warn about falling off the edge of the Bastion.

Seriously, this place has needed safety railings for ages now. Who's bright idea was it not to include safety railings? RUCKS...

Anyone wandering by the Kitchens today will notice... Damn, that's a lot of yelling. And slamming of things. Should knives be used to chop that hard...? That's right, Rin is in a bad mood and anyone who comes near will immediately know it. The excess swearing is probably a good clue. Unlike the other two, she's unleashing her temper with wild abandon in the sanctity of her kitchen where no one will bug her. Well. Unless YOU bug her...

Of course, these three aren't the only ones noticeable about the Bastion today! It looks like the Ura residents are just coming out of the woodwork.

Anyone who's talked to either of the latest Ura additions knows that Zulf came in with Zia. While not involved with the row from a few days ago, she seems just as worried as Zulf seems angry. It's possible to see her wandering about with her pet Pecker chick. Might see her coming away after a discussion with Zulf, too... Maybe she knows what's going on?

There's also Zanya and her father Zahi who have been apparently a bit more sociable these last few days. There's apparently a subject they're both interested in which they'll approach people about, although they'll do so differently. Zahi will strike up friendly conversation, but Zanya will simply get right to the point: do you have any idea what happened?

Feel free to strike up conversation with any of them, or even try and talk to everyone if you wish.

[ooc: This is your characters chance to investigate just what the drama is all about! In such a small place as the Bastion, it's a bit hard to miss... Feel free to have your characters speculate or gossip with the Ura NPCs about what may have happened or if they caught onto a sliver of what happened (like Zulf and Nathaniel falling off the edge of the Bastion), or for them to go the more direct route by talking to either Nathaniel, Zulf, Rin, or Zia.]

[Long story short is that Rin went to get Venn's journal from Nathaniel. Upon realizing who exactly wanted it, Nathaniel went to confront Zulf. There was an argument on just who and what caused the Calamity... and then Nat punched Zulf in the face, they rolled off the edge of the Bastion, and Rin separated them after they got blown back up.]

[As a reminder! Mod Mandy plays NPC!Nathaniel and NPC!Zahi. Mod Jeni plays NPC!Zanya and Rin. Birdmod James plays Zulf. Helpful player Courtney plays Zia. We'll all get to you on our own individual time, and as soon as possible! Just make sure it's clear in your post who your character is approaching.]

Who: Rosethorn and anyone!
Open: Open
When: Day 147
Where: gazebo, all around the Bastion, the farm; wherever your character finds her!
What: a gift from home leads to a very homesick plant mage
Format: prose preferred but I'll match whatever!
Warnings: Just the usual, if you annoy her she'll threaten to hang you in a well by your ankles. (Please do this. She's been too nice lately.)

Rosethorn is up at dawn as usual, or as close to dawn as Tris manages to give them in the Bastion. She stops by the gazebo out of curiosity. She doubts anything will be there, since she didn't choose any of the gods, none of them quite closely enough aligned with her own. At first glance, Rosethorn doesn't notice it. Then she gasps, a hand going to her mouth. "Lark." She drops to her knees and picks the shawl up hesitantly, letting it unfold as she does. The socks lay unnoticed as she wraps it around herself, feeling warmth and comfort sink into her as she does. It isn't just sentiment. Lark knitted spells into the shawl, healing, strength, and warmth radiating from it and into its wearer. A shawl knitted by her lover shouldn't come as such a surprise, given Tris's present, but it does.

She's never missed home quite so much, but having something of Lark's means the world to her. Whenever she finally does notice the socks, Rosethorn smiles. Lark would approve of this part of the gift too. It seems fitting.

Later in the day, she helps clean up from the festival with her usual brisk efficiency. She can be found anywhere in the Bastion she notices a job that needs doing. Anyone familiar with Rosethorn's usual dark green temple robes may notice the opal shawl. It's unusual to see her attire change much at all except in concession to weather. Even if her temple and her world are gone, the very earth in which her plants grew, Rosethorn is still an Earth dedicate, and she dresses as one.

As soon as she feels like she's done enough cleaning, Rosethorn steals away. She spends the rest of the day hiding, so to speak, on the farm. She checks on the Navit plants and does some weeding, shawl carefully folded and set out of range of dirt. Hiding is of course not a very accurate description. Where else would anyone look for a plant mage?

She won't leave the plants until clouds shift to block the sun, marking the end of the day.

Who: Rosethorn and anyone
Open: Wide open!
When: Day 124
Where: The Skyway. Or (especially if someone's already found her) you can go ahead and run into her in the Bastion on the assumption she's arrived there eventually.
What: A disgruntled and confused plant mage arrives.
Format: I prefer prose, but I'll go with whatever!
Warnings: There's no well to hang you in, but I can't promise she won't find other threats to make. She won't follow through unless someone attacks her.

This was not the task First Dedicate Dokyi planned to assign her. Granted, Rosethorn does not yet know what that task is, but she knows he wouldn't have knocked her unconscious and dragged her off somewhere else to do it.

Where else is the question. She sits up, hands digging into the earth as she does, her magic stretching outward through the roots of plants. Gyongxe is a strange enough place, but this isn't Gyongxe. The plants aren't right, the land isn't right. Wide flat plains instead of mountains. Rosethorn can breathe without a struggle, her lungs filling easily. While that would normally be a reassuring thought, it means she's at an entirely different altitude now.

It's a relief not to be in the hands of the Emperor's torturers, which would have been her first worry given current events, but the complete unfamiliarity of her surroundings counters that relief with a whole new set of worries. As she gets to her feet, Rosethorn sends her magic further afield at the same time she looks around, using all of the plants within an easily accessible range to tell her more about her surroundings. They do tell her one thing. No Briar, at least not close by. If he were here, the grass would know. It would recognize him, and she could find him in an instant. That means he and Evvy are on their own now, without her in a country about to descend into war. She was the one who brought them there, in service to her faith, and now she's gone and left them. She would never have done it willingly. "Mila protect them," she mutters.

Something different is visible in the distance, farther away than she can reach with her power even by threading her way through the tangle of roots the grass makes underground. Rosethorn will have to get closer before she can knows anything about it. Without any other destination in mind, she sets out. Straightening her dark green robes, a quick check is enough of a reminder that none of her packs are with her. She isn't entirely unarmed, but a belt knife at her waist and a pouch with one or two thorn seed packets won't be enough to face a significant threat.

It's going to be a very a long walk considering she has no idea what awaits at the end. Rosethorn's only consolation is that at least her eyes and the grass beneath her feet will let her know of any danger. There isn't much place for an enemy to hide here.
