What: People in the Bastion are falling sick, and Zahi knows where a cure can be found. Unfortunately, it won't be easy to get to.

[On Day 201, after several people have fallen ill, another meeting is called. This time, however, it is not Nathaniel who has called for everyone. It's Zahi.]

Okay, I know everyone's been worried about the people in the hospital, and it looks like our fears weren't unfounded: some of the people who went on that last trip, they caught something.

I've been watching the symptoms, and I think I know what this is. A long time ago, back before Zayna was born, there was a terrible illness that claimed the lives of many Ura. Everyone who fell sick here, they had the same symptoms as those who caught the disease before.

On the plus side, this means that it can be cured. I know of a clinic, way out in the Terminals, where there should be some medicine stocked. Not only can we cure the sick, but we can give another kind of medicine to those who aren't sick yet, so they won't catch it at all.

The downside is that it's gonna take a while to get there. It'll be at least two days there, and possibly more to track down exactly where the clinic is, and then the same amount of time back. We're looking at a four-day minimum, which means we won't be much help to those who are sick right now. They'll either be dead or getting better by the time we get back.

Then there's the fact that it's really dangerous out there. Zayna and I were out on the Terminals before we came here, and let's just say that there's a reason we went looking for somewhere safer to stay.

If you'd rather stay here, I can understand that. The Bastion is an amazing place, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone here managed to save everyone. But I'm not a fan of putting all my eggs in one basket, so I figured it's worth a shot to go and try to get some of the medicine.

Okay okay, I'll shadup...

[carefully adjusts his position - you have no idea, Rin-chan - or perhaps you do - how hard it is for him to NOT settle down on your bed and just. Not. Move.]

[combs through her hair again and splits it into sections, weaving it together into a plait that sits over her shoulder. His arms feel weak and shaky, and his fingers won't quite comply, so he can't braid as neatly as usual, but it should hold. Or at least keep the worst of it off her face and the back of her neck]

…you need anything? Anything I can get?

[Oh she knows. It's quite admirable that he's managing to not do that.

But she's just going to keep quiet and let that little bit of pampering calm her enough that she actually feels somewhat restful.]

Mn... should probably try drinkin' some water.

[individuates]

[good. You're lucky you caught Kaoru while he can still pamper. And he's glad that he can actually help you feel a bit better, even if he feels like hell himself]

[shifting carefully, but not quite making to rise - where is your water, Rin-chan?] Drink, then sleep. [a suppressed cough, a slight shiver] …all right?

Mn... mnhm. ... you're gonna go find Seimei-san?

[individuates]

[don't you 'mmm' at him in that vaguely-hedging manner, young lady. Is what he wants to convey with his raised eyebrow. Hydration and sleep are the things you need right now. No arguments]

…yeah. Need to sit with him. He... wasn't doing so well, when I came before. [though Kaoru doesn't imagine that the sight of him swanning - or more likely, slumping - through Seimei's sickroom doors, will make the onmyoji feel much better. At least not in the beginning. He certainly hopes it will be temporary, and that his presence will actually help.]

[But she'll only manage to get a little of one and none of the other. So there.]

I know. But... it'll be good to have you there with him, I think.

[individuates]

He didn't want me getting sick. [he tries not to put any inflection into it, to try to spare his throat and chest] …now I am.

"Puppies" is just gonna be the start of it.

I wasn't even supposed to get sick and now look where I'm at. None of this shoulda happened but it did and he better well realize that 'cause it's not like you did it on purpose!

[Whoops too much cough hack ow ow ow]

[individuates]

[rubbing her back. Stop inflecting things, Rin-chan ;A;]

But he's going to think it's his fault...

[But you must know my proper feelings!]

Then he's a bigger idiot than I thought.

[individuates]

[a shallow sigh] …Hikaru made him promise to protect me. Never hurt me. Never let- [a slight pause there. The coast seems clear…] me get hurt.

I just… have this feeling. He'll see this as a failure. Even if it's not.

[hellpyre]

Illness is somethin' none of us can help okay? Not even awesome amazin' doctors like Yukio. If Seimei-san can't see that I'll save up whatever energy I have and hit him myself.

[individuates]

[another huff in lieu of actual laughter]

I'll... talk him round. Somehow.

[hellpyre]

Good luck on that...

[individuates]

Nah. He'll have to concede to me eventually.

[and there is your glass. He wants you to drink]

I know water is boring but...

[his hand is a little bit shaky but he's not about to drop it.]

Sure sure you say that now but you're forgetting he's just as stubborn as the rest of us.

[Aw but water is so gross right now.

Then again everything is.]

Nn. Fine...

[individuates]

Not when it comes to me.

[this he can say with confidence. Besides. Kaoru can be very persuasive.

Maybe not right now, but later, he can be.

He holds the rim of the glass to her lips.]

Drink up.

[She's still not convinced.

But she won't continue the argument, instead trying to drink as much as her swollen throat will let her.]

[individuates]

[good Rin-chan, he's proud of you.]

After this, you need to rest. No excuses.

[and he needs to drag himself down the hall to find Seimei. The Seimei part is good. The dragging-and-finding part is not.]

You're gonna rest too, right? After you find Seimei-san's room?

[individuates]

[a tired laugh]

...really don't think my body will let me have a choice on that one.

Good. 'cause you need it as much as I do.

[he hasn't actually seen himself in a mirror yet. To say he's not feeling brilliant would be an understatement, but he actually has no idea how pale and peaky he looks]
