[So hey. There's this girl. She's been in this place for a while, helped out with a lot of things, and today she got to help do something awesome! Cores are important to the Bastion after all, so that's a good thing.

Except she kind of... lit herself on fire and a lot of people saw it.

Anyone want to talk to her about that?

In all seriousness, Rin can be found after all that hubbub taking a break near the apartments, outside because she really doesn't want to be in her room right now. She's nursing a bit of a wound on her thigh from sliding on her legs under the bird earlier, but whatever road rash she got from doing so is starting to fade finally. Her sword is lying next to her in the grass, and she's just on her back, watching the odd sky above the Bastion quietly.

Mostly because her ears are still kind of ringing from what Crona did.

Ringing ears won't stop her from holding a conversation, though, if anyone cares to bother her, and she's in a decent mood given their accomplishments.]

I was getting tired of the same food all the time.

[Potatoes are good to grow since they can survive a lot, but you can only eat them so may times before you're tired of them.]

There's only so many ways to cook potatoes.

You should be grateful I cook for you at all. At least we had food.

If you're going to be pissy about it, I can cook for myself.

[He's nowhere near as talented as Rin but he can at least keep himself from starving.]

It doesn't matter anyway, it sounds like we'll be getting more than we'll ever need now.

[Rin attempts to dodge the swat by leaning back, but in the end all it does is make her lose her balance and cause her to flop on to her back again.]

Erf...

Yeah. Well. Good.

[Wat.

Rin you are seriously uncoordinated. Bon is kind of just staring now.]

What, did becoming a girl make you fall over more?

[See that middle finger, Bon? It's allll for you, buddy.]

Screw you. My ears are still messed up.

[He is frowning, and not just because of that middle finger.]

Your ears still hurt?

[Her her hand falls, and with it a sigh escapes.]

Yeah... a little.

[He hadn't taken Rin's extra-sensitive hearing into account. He takes a moment to consider this, wondering if there is anything that can be done about it besides waiting for it to get better on it's own.]

...it shouldn't last too long. It's a shame we don't have any doctors here, though.

[Unfortunately that's probably all they can do. Though putting something warm on her ears might help.

For now she's just... going to stay where she landed. It's easier on her and it helps the fact that her face for just a second shows a little pain at thinking of a certain doctor.]

[Since Bon arrived so recently (not even a week before now), he barely knows any of the NPCs people here, and wasn't as affected by the sudden death of two of them.]

It's like you suddenly became one, you were a guy for as long as I knew you.

[It doesn't help that Rin is also missing her sister on top of that.]

So I have tits now, so what.

It's not just how you look.

[Whoops he's getting a little flustered here. He'll just look away.]

[Okay, sitting up now, complete with confused expression.]

Then what is it?

[SIGHHH explaining things with words is hard okay? He runs a hand through his hair as he tries to explain it.]

It's like...you're Okumura. There's no denying it, you act just like he would. And it feels just like at home, kinda.

But then you go and do something that's not like him at all, and I dunno if it's because you're a girl and he's a guy or if being here has changed you, but it reminds me that you're Okumura, but you're not my Okumura.

[He hopes that makes sense, because sometimes those moments are really jarring and awkward. Almost as awkward as saying all of this, even.]

[Oh. ... damn. That was... a lot heavier than she was expecting to hear, and it makes her both sad and self conscious at the same time. She tugs on her messy ponytail a little, her own gaze shifting away and the slightest bit of pink coming to her cheeks.]

I... I'unno, maybe I do things that he doesn't-- it's not like I can know, right? But...

[She pulls in a breath, with with the exhale admits something she's been keeping to herself since she arrived.]

I think it's this place. I don't always feel like myself here, y'know? Even back home after I learned what I was I was still me and home was still home there was just a lotta extra baggage on it, but this place isn't home. I'm workin' so damn hard here because I don't want to think about the fact that home isn't there anymore... because if I think about it I won't stop thinkin' about it and--...

[And she just wants to break down so damn bad but she can't. She refuses to let herself and she refuses to let anyone see her like that.]

[So it's not just him with all these worries, huh? Rin really was still Rin, even if she was about to start blubbering like a baby.

Bon should have figured, Rin was always sensitive to everything.]

It's just shitty all around. We can't go back, and going forward is really hard to do.

[But giving up and dying isn't an option either, not when they might be the only two from their world (worlds, technically) left alive. That thought isn't just a sad one, it makes Bon mad too.]

Why us? There's so many more people who're stronger than us, why did we survive?

[Emotions did come easier to her than they probably did to her male counterpart. It wasn't just "a girl thing" though chances are being raised and treated as any female with a protective father like Shiro facilitated some of that.

But she's still good at keeping it inside until she has that moment alone to deal with it, so she doesn't start crying. There's a sniffle, and her hands tighten where they're resting on her ankles, and she shakes her head slowly.]

I don't know. I've asked myself that a coupla times, but it's not like I got an answer any more than you do. You... you're human, at least. That makes sense. But me... ?

[kyotoprincess]

Are you kidding? It makes even more sense for you to survive. You're part fire demon. Everyone died from being burned to death.

[Seriously does he have to spell this out for her? But at least explaining things brings him back closer to his normal self.]

You surviving makes sense, but me? No, it's stupid. There's tons of people way more powerful than me, and they couldn't protect themselves.

[She never touched any of the statues. She always did everything she could to avoid doing just that. If she had she probably would have broken more than she already is.

But she dismisses that bit for what Bon said after, shaking her head frantically.]

No, don't you get it? You're smart! And strong! You're what these people need, not me!
