[Day 225] [EVENT] A sinking feeling

[Early in the morning on Day 225, most people are probably asleep. For the couple of stragglers who may still be awake so late, though, they may notice something strange. At 2:31 am, any lights that are on start to hum, and flicker in and out of dimness.

At 2:32 am, every light in the Bastion (excluding the emergency lights) shuts off entirely.

At 2:33 am, a horrible grinding noise can be heard throughout the Bastion, seemingly coming from everywhere at once. This sound continues on for several minutes, throughout everything else that begins to happen.

At 2:34 am, for anyone outside Nathaniel can be seen running from the Apartments towards the Monument as if his life depended on it.

At 2:35 am, ever so slowly, sections of the Bastion begin to sink.

Yes. They're considerably more powerful than they are, and they're what the Bastion runs on. From what I understand, the Bastion isn't actually completed... but it will be once enough Cores have been installed in it.

I see... I take it these cores are not easy to come by?

[Otherwise she would imagine somebody to have found enough of them by now. She doesn't expect rebuilding the Bastion to be everyone's top priority but surely it was high enough for several of them.]

No. Nathaniel, the man you saw running towards the Monument, can apparently locate them somehow but they're a rare sight. The Bastion has a good handful of them already, but I'm not sure how much number in a complete set.

Where's Zia?

[The question was sharp and had a snap at the end harsh enough to bring even the worriest of warts back to ground level. His eyes scanned the camp but he couldn't see her for the life of him.]

She's here- although if you'd taken any longer, neither of us would have been.

[Zulf knows better than to think he can go against Zia when she's determined, after all, especially when he's about to be very hypocritical in doing the thing he's telling her not to do.]

[A small noise escaped his mouth that could only be described as a soft sigh before he took a heavy seat on the ground.

Sorry it took s'long. I had t'lend Nathanial my city crest, Bastion was runnin' low on power an' it needed a kickstart.

[Adjusting his own dress, Zulf kneels down besides him and frowns.]

So it was something to do with the Cores... One hasn't been found in quite some time.

[ Red's been moving around, and he stops by Zuko when he sees her and the nearby turtle ducks. He's careful when he stoops down onto a knee beside her. ]

They gonna be okay out here with everyone?

[ Better put back away Charizard then if this guy wants no fire (it's not like she can put out her flame tail after all), but she's done the job she was woken up for. With a pat, the brief dragon-looking creature that was with a boy in plain cotton pyjamas and shoes goes. He's brought his bag of gear and his pokémon by instinct, not having much else to his name than the few other tidbits that had been in his room. Noting that really mattered.

To that there NPC at the top: ] Has anything like this happened before?

[ And other than that, Red will have out Blastoise at the edge of the camp to keep watch (won't ruin your spell circle there, Anya!), watching out for any animals that might come wandering their way. The noise from the Bastion had been loud, and some creatures were just naturally attracted to distress and trouble... ]

[A few of the turtle ducks quack at Red in what they seem to think is a threatening manner.]

They're not thrilled about it, but I think so.

If they keep up the noise, I have someone who can put them to sleep. [ Just as an offer. Quacking sounds is probably the last people need. ]

Sleep. [ Uhh... ] Doze them off for a while. It's harmless.

[Wow she knows what sleep is.]

No, they don't take anything. It's just something some of my pokémon can do. It looks like a yawn, but it'll make whoever it's aimed at get drowsy and fall asleep.

Lapras can sing them a lullaby too, but that might hit the other people if they listen to him.

[Just because she's not wearing pajamas doesn't mean she wasn't sleeping before this. She just doesn't have pajamas.]

Oh. So it's a... magic thing.

[She is still not clear on what magic can and can't do. There seem to be a lot of different kinds.]

I guess you can call it that. It's a pokémon thing to me.

Nothing where I come from has abilities like that.

If they're a power source there's a possibility that there's no set amount needed. The Bastion may continue to require more if our numbers continue to grow.

[This is not an exciting idea, especially if cores are going to be hard to find. At least there are enough people with combat experience that they can be out on the Skyway to search.]

[She could've said "25" and looked like a wrinkly old grandmother and he wouldn't have batted an eye. His attention is elsewhere at the moment.]

Sounds like it'd be a good skill to learn. Though, uh, if the Bastion can't be fixed then conserving the material components'd take priority, wouldn't it?

[Probably, but it also means that we'll never anything as adorable as the flavor text on this in the Bastion.

Rob glances over and takes a step farther away, just to be safe.]

Hope they succeed. Be a lot tougher to get by without the Bastion, I bet.

[The less Rob knows about people peeking at his thoughts the better things will go for everyone. Or at least for the possibility of further CR. Incidentally, there's a scene of a green-skinned tusked man ordering people to only take weapons and run, followed by a variety of similar-looking people doing just that, on a continual loop in Rob's mind whenever he's not focused on something else like finding a stick.]

[When he returns a bit later, it's with what looks like a fencepost that was broken off of its base. He sticks the pointy end into the ground so Anna can use it as a support for the blanket.]
