[Day 225] [EVENT] A sinking feeling

[Early in the morning on Day 225, most people are probably asleep. For the couple of stragglers who may still be awake so late, though, they may notice something strange. At 2:31 am, any lights that are on start to hum, and flicker in and out of dimness.

At 2:32 am, every light in the Bastion (excluding the emergency lights) shuts off entirely.

At 2:33 am, a horrible grinding noise can be heard throughout the Bastion, seemingly coming from everywhere at once. This sound continues on for several minutes, throughout everything else that begins to happen.

At 2:34 am, for anyone outside Nathaniel can be seen running from the Apartments towards the Monument as if his life depended on it.

At 2:35 am, ever so slowly, sections of the Bastion begin to sink.

No. Nathaniel, the man you saw running towards the Monument, can apparently locate them somehow but they're a rare sight. The Bastion has a good handful of them already, but I'm not sure how much number in a complete set.

[coffeewithmysugar]

If they're a power source there's a possibility that there's no set amount needed. The Bastion may continue to require more if our numbers continue to grow.

[This is not an exciting idea, especially if cores are going to be hard to find. At least there are enough people with combat experience that they can be out on the Skyway to search.]

[croceamors]

If Nathaniel manages to come back, we'll have to ask him for more details.

[Assuming he doesn't fall through one of those sink holes and dies or some such thing, anyway.]

Agreed.

[None of this does much to calm her nerves, but she does appreciate all the information. She sighs, trying to help herself ease the tension that's gathered in her muscles.]

Have you been here when they sought cores in the past?

[croceamors]

I'm afraid not, only when their power has come into effect. I've been here for other things, however, such as when the Calamity was more properly explained.

[coffeewithmysugar]

[Edea hates thinking about the Calamity and what it's done, even if she doesn't know a whole lot. You'll notice it's one of the few things she won't ask about.

I wonder just how much of all this we don't know about. And if that lack of knowledge is going to do harm.

[croceamors]

It's more a matter of "when", in my opinion. Finding more information on all of this would do us more good than not.

[coffeewithmysugar]

You're probably right.

[On both matters. And for a while that's enough for Edea to mull over. Why did everything have to be so complicated? Why would someone make this place rely on an object for power and then not tell everyone about it? Are things going to get worse before they get better?]

Ugh this whole thing is a big mess.

[Tiz would be disappointed at their lack of organization.]

It is.

Our biggest problem is one of organization. I'm positive I'm not the only one who's thought it. We're managing but not as well as we could be.

If there was some sort of leader or group in charge of things, that would help make matters easier.

Deciding on leadership might be difficult. We come from so many different places, we might have different expectations about how they should be and what sort of power we should allow them.

[croceamors]

Then we'll have to start a discussion about it. Not doing anything is obviously not working out well for us, considering.

[coffeewithmysugar]

That's bound to be an interesting discussion.

[One she intends to be around for, even if she doesn't think she'll have much to contribute. Edea shifts her weight from foot to foot a few times before she asks.]

So how long have you been here?

[croceamors]

It's been a few months now, but that's hardly the longest.

[coffeewithmysugar]

I'd say any amount of time here is too long.

[Boy, Edea sure is still bitter about being the only one of her world here. Between her tone and the way she's crossing her arms you'd have to be oblivious not to notice.]

[croceamors]

I'd rather be here than be dead.

[It's stated bluntly, without much sympathy. Then again... That tends to be a weakpoint of his.]

[coffeewithmysugar]

Call me foolish but I'm having a hard time believing that anybody who isn't here is dead.

[croceamors]

Very well. You're foolish.

Haven't you seen the ash statues?

[coffeewithmysugar]

Only a few. And I still don't see how that's proof.

[This is one of the few things she will be stubbornly optimistic about. Her friends are not dead. End of discussion.]

They're effectively corpses. Of course, if denial is what gets you through all of this, then you can stay that way if you like. It's just not going to help you in the long run.

[coffeewithmysugar]

It won't change any of my actions or my decisions, so I don't see how it'll hurt either.

[croceamors]

It'll hurt more when you actually accept what's happened.
