Day 201 [event post]
Who: Zahi and everyone who wants to go hunt down the cure
Open: Open
When: 201- onwards
Where: the monument, and then out on the Skyway
What: People in the Bastion are falling sick, and Zahi knows where a cure can be found. Unfortunately, it won't be easy to get to.
Format: action
Warnings: none
[On Day 201, after several people have fallen ill, another meeting is called. This time, however, it is not Nathaniel who has called for everyone. It's Zahi.]
Okay, I know everyone's been worried about the people in the hospital, and it looks like our fears weren't unfounded: some of the people who went on that last trip, they caught something.
I've been watching the symptoms, and I think I know what this is. A long time ago, back before Zayna was born, there was a terrible illness that claimed the lives of many Ura. Everyone who fell sick here, they had the same symptoms as those who caught the disease before.
On the plus side, this means that it can be cured. I know of a clinic, way out in the Terminals, where there should be some medicine stocked. Not only can we cure the sick, but we can give another kind of medicine to those who aren't sick yet, so they won't catch it at all.
The downside is that it's gonna take a while to get there. It'll be at least two days there, and possibly more to track down exactly where the clinic is, and then the same amount of time back. We're looking at a four-day minimum, which means we won't be much help to those who are sick right now. They'll either be dead or getting better by the time we get back.
Then there's the fact that it's really dangerous out there. Zayna and I were out on the Terminals before we came here, and let's just say that there's a reason we went looking for somewhere safer to stay.
If you'd rather stay here, I can understand that. The Bastion is an amazing place, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone here managed to save everyone. But I'm not a fan of putting all my eggs in one basket, so I figured it's worth a shot to go and try to get some of the medicine.
What do you guys think?

That thing has the power to get it back ahead of us?
no subject
[She takes the offered vial and uses the entire roll of bandages she's pocketed to wrap it up. Can't be too careful!]
Nathaniel said since the tower got damaged, it'd be a good idea to make sure this gets wrapped up, too... Oh!
[Suddenly an idea occurs to her and, scrambling, she starts pulling things out of the pouch at her belt—the recently-packed medical supplies, a bow (thank Lemaign for hammerspace), a donut oh for god's sake Aoi, and a canteen. She repacks the syringes and then the wrapped-up vial.]
Okay, anything else? A note! [Right back to bouncing up and down the room, somehow even more energetic than usual, until she finds a pad of paper.] If Nathaniel doesn't find it first, whoever does'll wanna know it's nothing dangerous, right?
[It only occurs to her after she's sloppily scrawled Get well soon! and her name on the paper in the darkness that someone will have to translate, but hopefully the doodle she adds in the corner—a smiling face with what is supposed to be her usual ponytail and hairclip—is coherent enough to clear things up.]
Right! Okay! [And without further fanfare, she pins the paper just under where she attaches the sensor, suddenly much more mindful of her movements. Slowly, carefully, just as she was told, she activates the sensor: twist and push.]
no subject
Because as soon as the sensor is turned on, it starts pulling the small package back to the Bastion. Taking the shortest route possible. And in this case, "shortest route" involves going through a wall.
Zahi will just. Peer through the now-hole in the wall.]
...I sure hope that'll still be usable.
[He's definitely not regretting hanging on to two of the doses.]
no subject
[Zuko isn't entirely sure if the thing Aoi used was magic or technology--both are pretty much a mystery to her, but either one could theoretically burrow through dirt, right?]
no subject
No. No it was not.]
...O-oh... I, um, didn't...
[The instructions weren't clear enough; I got my bag shoved through a wall.]
...We should go back now.
[DON'T LOOK AT HER]
no subject
Yeah, let's go find the bird and give one of the doses to him, and we can carry back the last one.
[He looks over to Zuko with a 'did that really just happen?' look on his face.]
no subject
She meets Zahi's look with one of exasperation before nodding and turning to go.]
Hopefully he knows better than to fly through any walls.
[Okay, so Aoi's not getting out of this without some snark.]
no subject
no subject
<You got it?>
no subject
[And look, he even found a tiny bag to put it in! Which he will tie to Tobias' foot if he will let him.]
Take care with this one, I'm not so sure the first dose is going to make it. But at the very least, if you follow it, it'll lead you back, I suppose.
no subject
<I noticed. I'll take off after it once you get this secured. It shouldn't slow me down much.>
no subject
She looks at Tobias and then back towards the Bastion.]
How fast do you think you can make it back?
no subject
[There's kind of a reason he's slightly charred.]
no subject
What, did they find a disgruntled squirt?
no subject
[He shakes his leg a little to make sure that the bag is tied tightly.]
<I figured you would probably be one of the better ones out of our group to grab. Getting the cure is the priority but I don't want to lose anyone else. I'll head back this way once I drop this off.>
no subject
Alright, I'll take care of it. You head on back, at the very least I want the people back at the Bastion taken care of.
[He doesn't know exactly what to expect, but he can take it. He's a tough old bird.
But what about the girls?]
Zuko, you protect Aoi. There's no telling what else could go wrong out there. But stay close, we don't need to be getting separated.
no subject
And she's fully expecting to run into more trouble than just an injured woman. In her experience, explosives tend to signal bad guys. She knows, she's been the bad guy who got signalled. She nods to Zahi and then turns to Aoi.]
Keep close to me unless I tell you otherwise. Someone probably set those explosives; we don't need to charge into trouble.
[Since Aoi seems to have even more trouble with 'look before you leap' than Zuko does.]
no subject
[She takes a step towards Zuko, pale and wide-eyed but somehow seeming resilient.]
Don't worry too much about me, okay? I-I know I'm not smart, but I promise, I'm real tough!
no subject
Come on, and keep quiet.
no subject
Got it. [It's going to take considerable effort to keep herself calm enough to be quiet, but for now, she's managing.] That goes for you, too, okay? Be careful.
[And off they go, Aoi as silent as can be at Zuko's side.]
