What: People in the Bastion are falling sick, and Zahi knows where a cure can be found. Unfortunately, it won't be easy to get to.

[On Day 201, after several people have fallen ill, another meeting is called. This time, however, it is not Nathaniel who has called for everyone. It's Zahi.]

Okay, I know everyone's been worried about the people in the hospital, and it looks like our fears weren't unfounded: some of the people who went on that last trip, they caught something.

I've been watching the symptoms, and I think I know what this is. A long time ago, back before Zayna was born, there was a terrible illness that claimed the lives of many Ura. Everyone who fell sick here, they had the same symptoms as those who caught the disease before.

On the plus side, this means that it can be cured. I know of a clinic, way out in the Terminals, where there should be some medicine stocked. Not only can we cure the sick, but we can give another kind of medicine to those who aren't sick yet, so they won't catch it at all.

The downside is that it's gonna take a while to get there. It'll be at least two days there, and possibly more to track down exactly where the clinic is, and then the same amount of time back. We're looking at a four-day minimum, which means we won't be much help to those who are sick right now. They'll either be dead or getting better by the time we get back.

Then there's the fact that it's really dangerous out there. Zayna and I were out on the Terminals before we came here, and let's just say that there's a reason we went looking for somewhere safer to stay.

If you'd rather stay here, I can understand that. The Bastion is an amazing place, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone here managed to save everyone. But I'm not a fan of putting all my eggs in one basket, so I figured it's worth a shot to go and try to get some of the medicine.

What do you guys think?

[AZ estimates that it's pretty bad anyway, given that he suspects even a sloppy quarantine made by Colin is still probably fairly secure. But he nods, curling against Colin a bit.]

Just don't hold anything I say while sick against me. Or do, because you're you and I expect teasing from you.

I don't do that when people are healthy. Rest assured, I won't hold anything against you now.

[He smirks.]

Good to see we understand each other.

[There's a room now, and a bed that's way too small for AZ.]

Okay, sit here, lay down on your side if you can. I'll bring over a second bed so you can stretch out...

[He laughs a little, though it hurts. He manages to get himself over to the bed and curls up into the fetal position. Even then, it's still close to being too short for him and definitely not wide enough. He makes a vague effort to try to pull off his jacket, but his body aches too much to move that way.]

[WHY did he let AZ convince him that other projects would be more important than good, proper living conditions for the man?

Admittedly, it wouldn't be so easy as to just haul an AZ-sized bed in here, but still.

He's just going to wheel this bed over to AZ, and put the two beds together. A few pillows in place between the beds to fill the gap, and... well, it's not perfect, but for the time being, it will do.]

Okay, AZ. Roll over here, and I'll start getting those clothes off you.

[Because he's dealt with normal-sized things for his whole life, he can deal with them for longer. He slowly uncurls and looks up at Colin. He knows his jacket and hat have to come off but he's still reluctant to do so.]

[Colin gives him the best gentle smile he can manage through an environmental suit.]

I know you're hesitant, but you're going to want these clothes off now. The longer you stay in them, the more contaminated they're going to get, and we may have to burn them when all is said and done.

Besides.

You're going to be going into cold sweats within a day or so... You want to be wearing as little as possible when that happens.

[He won't force AZ to disrobe, yet.]

[He nods, and rolls over so he can slowly work one arm out of the jacket and then slowly rolls over so he can get the other out. He pulls his hat off as well and puts it in a jacket pocket so he doesn't lose it later.]

There.

[Colin takes the offered clothes and tosses them in a bag for later cleaning and sterilization.]

That's a good start. Can you get the rest, or do you need help?

[You know it's not that easy, AZ.]

The -

[... Oh. Oh. Right.]

If you can find something that'll fit me instead...

[He's not totally undressing in front of someone else. He still has a little pride.]

We can get you two hospital gowns. But those clothes, everything you're wearing, needs to come off.

[He nods slightly.]

Alternately, I can make you a sheet toga. That may even be less drafty.

[He still hesitates. Logically, he knows that he needs to, but he doesn't want someone else to see how he looks. It's not terrible, but even with trying to keep up with more modern things the idea of someone he's not in a long-term romantic relationship with or in the onsen with seeing him undressed is incredibly embarrassing.]

I...

[He feels like a Deerling caught in someone's headlights.]

[Colin studies him for a moment.]

If you can tell me, honestly, right now that you can disrobe, I'll leave you to it.

Otherwise, I'm going to need to help you. Or I can call Yukio in.

[Sorry AZ. He knows social norms, but he shut that program down when this whole thing began.]

I... I can probably do it. Just give me a few minutes.

[He needs to work this out himself. Just... yeah. It's a Thing.]

You've got five minutes.

After that, Yukio or I will be coming in. Do you have a preference?

[Colin steps to the door, but doesn't leave yet, waiting for AZ's answer.]

... Probably Yukio.

[You're a friend so it's weird, Colin.]

[... Though five minutes later, once Colin is out of the room, AZ has gotten stuck on trying to get both his shoes and his shirt off. The former is blocking him from getting his pants off, too, and the latter is caught halfway off. It hurts too much to move in any direction. The only piece of clothing he's gotten off other than his jacket and hat is his leg brace.]

[There's a knock on the door five minutes later on the dot, and a a quick 'AZ-san?' is all he gets before Yukio pokes his head in the door.]

Colin-san said you might need some help- oh. [Yeah, looks like AZ definitely needs some help. Yuki scoots inside and shuts the door behind him, quickly moving to assist. First thing's first, gotta get that shirt off so the poor guy can see.]

Just keep your arms like that for a moment... there we go.

[He moves slowly, but leans down so Yukio can reach. He's faintly flushed, though it's not from fever.]

... Thank you.

[He feels stupid and helpless right now, neither of which are feelings he's particularly used to.]

[Yukio offers AZ a smile once he manages to work the shirt off, apparently not at all phased by having to help a fully grown man undress.]

No thanks necessary. Let's just get you out of these. [Kneeling down to get to work on AZ's shoes.]

Colin-san mentioned something about using a sheet for you to cover up with. Are you okay with that?

Yes, that's fine.

[He tries to smile as well, but he just feels terrible.]

I haven't been sick like this in a very long time.

[Off comes one shoe, and then he starts on the laces of the other.]

Well, we're going to our best to take care of you. [And everyone else too. No matter what the eventual outcome.]

... If Floette tries to come see me though, please turn her away.

[He shakes his head.]

She'd have to be sterilized and she's weak against fire. She wouldn't be able to disinfect enough.

[Yukio nods his assurance.]

Understood. Is there anything you'd like me to tell her if she does come?

Just tell her that I'll be all right.

[He coughs, leaning over to grab the side of the bed. Even if he doesn't feel like it right now... he doesn't want her to worry.]

[Both shoes off and set aside, Yukio reaches up to try and steady AZ where he's sitting.]

... Do you think you can stand for long enough to get your pants off?

[He braces himself against the bed for a moment, and then lifts himself a bit so he can stand.]

[He wobbles a bit, but he pushes his pants down before sitting down again heavily.]
