Let the Festival Begin [Day 143 | Day 144]

For the past week or so, it may feel like to some that the Bastion is gearing up for something. And not anything bad, either. Something good and oh so needed. It's not just the people, the Caels and the Ura that are aware of what the coming days would mean if the world was still intact. It's like the very Bastion itself has suddenly gained new life, and there's a power over it that's greater than any person, creature or Core.

Anyone who is still awake as dawn breaks over the Bastion may find themselves inexplicably tired for no reason at all, and unable to give in to an intense need to close their eyes, just for a moment.

When everyone wakes, and I do mean everyone, the Bastion will be transformed. Decorations, lights strung across every angle, wreaths, tables with colorful cloths over them, streamers and banners and so much stuff just seemingly out of nowhere! The entire Bastion, suddenly a vibrant, beautiful place for a celebration. And not just any celebration.

[Roxas is both excited and curious about there being a festival, and after an initial look around, well, he hasn't tackled the booze yet, but Saix isn't the only one who found the sea-salt ice cream.

It takes him a minute to resolve this image when he spots the other Nobody. Saix eating ice cream. There can really only be one explanation for this.]

...he got you into it, too, huh.

[croceamors]

[It takes a moment for Saix to realize what Roxas means, and he just raises an eyebrow.]

Not recently. We used to eat this often enough before we joined the Organization together.

Well- yeah. That's what I figured.

[Although that means it's a tradition that started before Roxas and Axel. Did Axel only start eating it with him because he missed his first best friend? It's an uncomfortable thought.

He cautiously takes a seat nearby anyway. Saix has been making an effort. Whatever his little pangs of jealousy, surely Roxas can manage to carry on a conversation for a little while.]

I hope you're not just doing "recon" this time.

[croceamors]

[Thanks for remembering that, Roxas. Really.]

No, I'm not. Trying to remember how to properly enjoy myself without making anyone else miserable seems to be a skill I should work on... Besides, with all this food, we shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Why would you...? [Look a horse in the mouth ever? Roxas figures it has something to do with not passing it up, but he does not get the idiom. Still, he doesn't expect Saix to explain.]

There- is a lot of food. I wonder if we should stock up on the ice cream..

Well, there's no guarantee it will be here tomorrow. I've already done so.

[Saix is practical that way.]

The alcohol will be, but nothing else. [He takes the brandy in hand to show what he means.]

[Roxas nods.] Guess I'll do that later.

[Of course he's still primarily thinking about the ice cream. He eyes the brandy uncertainly when Saix mentions it.]

Does any of that stuff- actually taste good though?

[croceamors]

It depends. They all have different tastes. I assume you've never tried any?

[It doesn't sound like Axel encouraged Roxas into getting pathetically drunk, at least.]

Axel tried to get me to drink with him one time, but I didn't like it.

[Uh, yeah. You may need to rethink that assessment, Saix.]

I'm not sure what he was having.

[croceamors]

[...Goddammit, Axel, he can't trust you to be responsible about anything.]

Well, what did it taste like?

I dunno, just... [He makes a face trying to remember it, then nods to Saix's booze.]

How's that stuff taste?

[croceamors]

It's very... sweet, but thick. It may be more to your liking. Do you want some?

[I mean, it's not like he can be worse than Axel in this subject considering what he did.]

[coolerthansora]

...sure, I'll try it.

[C'mon, there's nothing irresponsible about this. Anyway practically everyone's drinking something.]

[croceamors]

Here.

[They are going to be so responsible. Definitely. With that, Saix holds up the bottle to Roxas.]

[Roxas takes the bottle and tries a swig of it. There's a thoughtful look on his face as he considers the flavor.]

It's- not so bad, actually.

[croceamors]

Then that might be best for you. You can have it- I prefer more bitter tastes.

[He gives a shrug. Considering the size of this table, he's not particularly concerned about finding more booze.]

Oh. Okay.

[He'll just keep this bottle then with its Saix germs. Gonna finish his ice cream before having any more though.]

So you... actually drink sometimes I guess.

[croceamors]

Yes.

[To be fair, really only recently and because he apparently knows nothing but bad influences. (Thanks Axel and Anya.)]

Are you going to be surprised everytime I do something that doesn't have to do with work?

[Is he really surprised every time? Well, it is still hard to imagine Saix doing non-work things.]

I just meant- Axel hardly ever drinks.

[croceamors]

[He's trapped himself in that reputation. Such tragedy.]

I hardly do as well, but this is a festival. Drinking isn't particularly unusual.

[Maybe eventually he'll work his way out of it. Like in a few years.]

Yeah... Though I'm not sure exactly what we're celebrating.

[More like a decade.]

I overheard from the natives here that it has something to do with harvest time and the Gods. Beyond that, I don't have any idea.

[He starts to look over the various different bottles that are on offer.]

Did they make you go to the shrine, too?

[Here goes the last of his ice cream.]

[croceamors]

[An annoyed sigh as he goes to pick up a blocky bottle filled with a warm looking drink.]

Yes. I went simply so that there wasn't any chance of that woman bothering me at a later date. I don't much care for gods.

[Ice cream gone, Roxas picks up his bottle of brandy and looks at it for a moment.]

I think some of them are nice, but I don't know any of the ones she talked about.
