day 117 :: Core Event

What: The PCs go hunting for a core, and get caught up in a dangerous situation

[Some time has passed, and more people have arrived. It seems as though things have been turning around since the last hunt for a core. So when Nathaniel comes to tell everyone that another core has been located, and that they'll need to go get it, his somber attitude might seem a bit strange.]

Alright everyone, I'm getting an energy spike in the general area of Prosper Bluff, so I'm pretty sure a core is there. Unfortunately, I can't get an exact location on it, just a general area, so you're going to have to go down there and root it out yourself. It should be somewhere on the bluff, which will make for an easy recovery, since most monsters stay away from that area.

However, there is a chance that the core might be a bit further East, in Jawson's Bog. If it is, just leave it there. It is not worth risking your lives to go in there to get it.

[Everyone is free to talk to Nathaniel before leaving, if they want, or they can just be on their way. Either way, the NPCs will be waiting for them to return.]

Yeah, it releases this toxic gas, which causes paralysis. It makes you easy prey for monsters, and the few lucky ones who didn't get eaten reported having horrible nightmare visions. Most of 'em were never the same again.

A plant Vaermina would favor... Zu'u lusir, zu'u lost kogaani. There is one last thing I wish to inquire of.

[And here he shifts in a way that could maybe be taken as 'awkward'.]

Is there something which I could tie about, perhaps, my neck to store this 'core' in, should I find it?

[Or anything else, really. There's only so much he can carry with his claws, and his jaw is not good for more delicate tasks such as that.]

[Admittedly, a huge dragon carrying the core would be awesome. That would be a lot safer than having one person run ahead with it and play 'dodge the monsters.']

I could probably get you some rope, though we only have so much of it right now, so you'll have to use what we have.

[Paarthurnax has acquired rope! Though he will likely need help tying anything to himself.]

[Fortunately, Paarthurnax has managed to make quite a few friendly acquaintences since arriving at the Bastion. With the rope carefully held between his large fangs, he takes off towards a familiar ponytailed young girl.]

Aoi. Dream. Would you spare me your assistance?

[amphibian]

Sure thing! [Aoi quits practice-swinging her new weapon—a spiked club the same size as a baseball bat from the Forge—and places it down at her feet so she can take the rope.] For the bag, right? Duck a li'l more so I can reach!

[wayofvoice]

Greh, that is right. [He lowers his head appropriately and waits for her patiently.] Do you plan to venture out as well?

[amphibian]

[She loops the rope over and makes a knot that's more like a cluster of them, but it's secure even if unattractive.] Got it! Is that okay? [Just to be sure, she gives the ends a few tugs.]

Yeah, definitely! I've gotta do my part to help everyone, too! And I'm better prepared for trouble this time. [She picks the club back up and holds it out.]

[wayofvoice]

[He gives an experimental little shake of his head before seeming to become satisfied.] It will do well.

A more blunt weapon than I would have attributed to you, Zosiilkoz. Still, what brings us through another day is never something to be dismissed. Would you wish to travel with me once more as we go in search of this core?

[amphibian]

Yeah, but I know how to use this one, though! I play baseball. [She hops back a few steps, turns a little, and swings it hard across the air.] Homerun! Hehehe. [She puts it back down, though—she still hasn't figured out how to just idly hold it without being completely paranoid of jabbing herself with the spikes. Fun weapons probably don't exist, but this one is particularly un-fun.

Of course, she perks right back up at the offer.] Yeah, absolutely! I bet it'll be no problem with us working together again!

I do not understand, but if that is what makes you more at ease, then it is a good choice.

[At the acceptance, he stretches out his wings as much as he can without knocking anyone over before pulling them back in.]

Then we shall meet at the Open Plains, and take to the air there.

[He doesn't want to knock anyone done with his takeoff.]

sure thing! do you mind getting it, or i can tomorrow morning (it is so bedtime rn though)

Haha, maybe I'll show you how sports work sometime! The point is that a home run is super good, though.

All right! Heh, that core's as good as ours already! [She picks the bat back up and kind of...awkwardly holds it just off to the side before she starts walking. She'll figure out what to do with it eventually.]

[individuates]

[coming in at the tail end of the talk, Tama-chan following behind] ...sounds horrible. Remind me to keep away from whatever you said emits that toxic ga- -

[Grinding to a halt. Sorry, Paarthurnax, he's seen some weird stuff since he got here, but you have to be the weirdest.]

[Rude, he is holding up quite well for his age, thank you.]

[Completely used to the stunned stares of silence, Paarthurnax decides to ignore the shocked display and just nods.]

I agree. It would be more to our benefit if the Core is in this bluff than the bog. [With that said, he leans his long neck down so that he can nudge the little anklegator with his own nose.] Drem, mal gein.

[individuates]

[what. WHAT. It talks? He talks? But if Tama-chan seems to like you it can't be that bad. Even though she likes everyone.]

[Unlike Kaoru, the littlest anklegator is taking this quite well - she's quite curious and always happy to make new friends, especially friends that look just a little bit like her. So she edges closer, making soft noises in the back of her throat. Kaoru is trying to keep his distance without appearing rude]

...Tama-chan, will you be able to talk when you grow up?

She does not appear to be of the dov as I am, but she is also no creature I am familiar with. Who can say?

[His warm breath pushes out from his snout and washes over Tama-chan as he takes the little thing in.]

I have to admit, I'm not exactly sure what she is either. I found her egg about six weeks ago and just... carried her around for a few weeks until she hatched. I have it on relatively good authority that she's an anklegator. She enjoys digging and riding around on my shoulders [she flicks out her tongue cautiously, curiously] ...and that she tends to do that to people she likes.


...what did you say to her?

[wayofvoice]

[That low rumbly sort of noise you hear deep in his throat? Just him chuckling, don't worry.] A fitting name. Perhaps she will outgrow it.

Ah, I simply said 'hello' in my native tongue. The proper phrase is drem yol lok, but such formalities are not needed for the young. They care little for it.

[individuates]

Well I gave her the name back when I wasn't sure when she would hatch - I couldn't just let her go nameless - and it kind of stuck. Ah - [speaking of names...] Mine's Kaoru, by the way.

I'm not sure if she will be able to speak when she gets bigger... or how she will look, even. I don't know how she feels about formalities, but she's smart, I talk to her a lot.

I am Paarthurnax. Su'um ahrk morah. I am certain she will grow well so long as she has enough to eat. That is the most vital part of any creature's growth.

It is fortunate that she found your companionship.

[individuates]

It's nice to... uh... meet you, too? [...at least that's what he's assuming it meant, from the context]

[Tama-chan runs her horn against him. What do you mean, grow? Tama-chan is big and strong! Tama-chan can take down Gasfellas almost without any help!]

[Paarthurnax indulges her for a moment before speaking up again.]

Do you plan to go on this search as well, or remain behind?

[individuates]

...I intend to, yes. I want to help out where I can. Just have to stay away from the Bog, right? Should be fine if we're going in a completely different direction.

[wayofvoice]

That is right... However, mein do muz ahrk dovah often shur hondiir. That is to say, things do not always go so smoothly when we wish them too. Hopefully things stay within our favor.
