[So hey. There's this girl. She's been in this place for a while, helped out with a lot of things, and today she got to help do something awesome! Cores are important to the Bastion after all, so that's a good thing.

Except she kind of... lit herself on fire and a lot of people saw it.

Anyone want to talk to her about that?

In all seriousness, Rin can be found after all that hubbub taking a break near the apartments, outside because she really doesn't want to be in her room right now. She's nursing a bit of a wound on her thigh from sliding on her legs under the bird earlier, but whatever road rash she got from doing so is starting to fade finally. Her sword is lying next to her in the grass, and she's just on her back, watching the odd sky above the Bastion quietly.

Mostly because her ears are still kind of ringing from what Crona did.

Ringing ears won't stop her from holding a conversation, though, if anyone cares to bother her, and she's in a decent mood given their accomplishments.]

Well... I was thinkin'... it was kind of a mess this time, wasn't it? What if next time we have teams? You and I, we're pretty durable. We can take hits a lot better than others. You can be on a team and I can be on a team and at least then it wouldn't be hurtin' me so long as we're separated?

[A nod. Crona had actually been thinking about that too. Balanced teams could cover a lot more ground than that mess of a group they had yesterday.]

[Yay, that's progress!]

See? It happened, but it's over, right? We got a solution, at least.

[A few steps closer. Crona's not the most talkative of people, and is kind of wishing that Maka were here to help smooth things over. But Maka's nowhere in sight, and this girl isn't chasing Crona away yet.]

[Nope, and she's probably not going to. It's not like she has any reason to - she already forgave Crona anyway.

Speaking of Maka, hey that's a good conversation topic.]

Is it weird, having Maka here as a guy?

If Maka was a guy I would have killed her when we met. Him. I knew how to deal with boys, you know? I didn't know how to deal with girls. [A shift, cheeks going slightly grey with a faint blush.]

Really... ? Huh. No wonder you were so put off by Bon.

[Rin shifts a bit, crossing her legs and resting her elbows on her knees.]

I'm a guy in his world. That's why I was askin'.

I wasn't going to kill him! [Crona stumbles backward, eyes wide and hands flailing.] I'm not... that's not... I wouldn't do that anymore! He's just loud and I don't know how to deal with loud people and I was in a new place and I didn't know anyone

[and if Rin doesn't stop Crona, the meister's going to keep stammering out apologies.]

Well yeah, I know. You didn't look like you were 'bout to take his head off or anythin'.

[Rin lets out a huff. It's not annoyed, just... uncertain on what to do with this one.]

There's a lot you dunno how to deal with, yeah?

[Crona can't deal with most things.

Time for another subject change.]

Your sword... it's not... not alive?

Huh? Oh. No, not like yours. It's enchanted, though. My power is sealed inside it.

.... it's magic? [Crona had taken a few steps closer to Rin, but now Crona takes a few steps back.]

Well uhm-- ... okay 'enchanted' might not be the right word. Actually I'unno what is. 'cause... magic doesn't really exist in my world? Other powers do, though. Its-- ...

Complicated. I don't actually know what my dad did to the sword to make it the way it is... and I can't ask him now anyway...

[Rin's gaze shifted to the ground, and her ears even seemed to drop slightly.]

[Crona stops, listening and accepting. But the meister doesn't make a move forward.]

What does it do?

[That's fine. Talking is keeping her mind off of her dad and other sad things. She really doesn't need to burden Crona with that.]

Well, when it's closed like it is right now, I'm normal. I can still use my power it's just a lot weaker. When the blade is out though, it unlocks it completely.

... that doesn't make sense. Why would you lock your power away? That's dangerous, you know.

[Rin's hand reached over, tugging the sword closer in order to rest it on her lap.]

Demons aren't really accepted in my world. So I had to be hidden, and raised like I was human.

... you can't hide the fire?

Not without the sword, no. See... half-human half-demons aren't that uncommon in my world. That's what a friend of mine told me. But a lot of 'em... they just look like normal people with maybe sharper teeth, or pointed ears, or even a tail like mine. But me...

Well... it's because of who my father is.

... is he a good father?

If he's not, I don't think that I want to talk about him.

[For a lot of reasons.]

He didn't raise me, though. A man named Shiro Fujimoto did. He was... kind of a pain in the ass, but he was a good man. If anyone was my dad it was him.

I know. I don't owe him shit. I never will. And my flames are my own. It doesn't matter if they look the same as his.

[As much as she wishes she could say that with more confidence, there's always going to be that hint of uncertainty tinging it. It isn't as if learning the truth of her heritage has been easy for her.]

It's not the form that matters, it's the soul. They teach you that at school.

I don't really know anythin' about souls. Marie said... she thinks I have one, but I'm not really sure. Demons aren't supposed to have souls, but I'm also half human, so...

... she said I should ask Maka, but--

[But she's actually afraid to find out she's more like her father than she realized]
