[Day 225] [EVENT] A sinking feeling

Who: Anyone and everyone
Open: Open
When: Early morning on Day 225
Where: Everywhere in the Bastion
What: Remember how cores used to be a thing? Yeah, they're still important.
Format: any
Warnings: terrible modpuns

[Early in the morning on Day 225, most people are probably asleep. For the couple of stragglers who may still be awake so late, though, they may notice something strange. At 2:31 am, any lights that are on start to hum, and flicker in and out of dimness.

At 2:32 am, every light in the Bastion (excluding the emergency lights) shuts off entirely.

At 2:33 am, a horrible grinding noise can be heard throughout the Bastion, seemingly coming from everywhere at once. This sound continues on for several minutes, throughout everything else that begins to happen.

At 2:34 am, for anyone outside Nathaniel can be seen running from the Apartments towards the Monument as if his life depended on it.

At 2:35 am, ever so slowly, sections of the Bastion begin to sink.

What do you do?

[After a second of contemplation, Colin thrusts the flashlight into Duke's hand.]

Take this, I want it back when I catch up with you. I can see fine without it.

Start towards the docks, and watch your step. I'll catch up with you shortly, this shouldn't take more than a minute. And if you need me to carry you, don't let pride get in the way or we're both going to die.

[Yep, Colin's off like a shot to Duke's hospital room.

[ Okay. Duke takes a moment to turn the flashlight on and off, and then just heads out at a run toward the docks.

And Colin will probably find her about halfway there, flashlight bobbing as she tries to catch her breath around coughing. The knight is stubbornly taking a step when she feels like she can, but slow. Running is not a thing, and it is making her pretty upset with herself.

[Yeah, Colin was afraid of this...]

Damn, your lungs are still weak. Okay...

[He's got her sword in one hand, and the largest pitcher of water he could find in the other.]

I had a feeling you might need this. Drink, now. You can complain to me about the treatment when we've got you on the barge.

[Colin holds out the pitcher to her.]

[ Complain? The shaking under her and the gaps in the Bastion make the idea of complaining over his haste laughable.

She passes him his flashlight back, takes the pitcher, and does her best to not choke as she drinks. Because coughing and rapid breathing and drinking at the same time? Sure.

[Colin takes the flashlight and secures it to a clip on his belt. He simply won't have the hands to use it with what he's about to do. He gives Duke a moment to drink, and another moment to catch her breath, before he holds her sword out to her.]

I don't expect you'll have cause to use this, but keep it with you at all times.

[And once Duke takes the sword... Colin's going to scoop her up in his arms.]

This will be faster and less likely to aggravate your lungs. Just hold onto your things, I'll get you to the barge.
notduchess: (Were you dropped on your head)

[ Duke gives Colin a "duh" look. The only reason the knight hadn't brought it out of the hospital room with her was because she didn't remember a belt. And the book was closer.

Not that she's terribly sure she could be much use with her sword at the moment, as attempting to run has proven.

Also baleful cat look, Colin. That is all Duke is going to do about this picking up thing. Baleful cat look, and holding the pitcher so it doesn't spill everywhere.

As much as it was tempting.

[Yes, Duke. Complain. That baleful cat look is exactly what he had in mind when he was talking to you about complaints.]

I know, I know. Deal with it. You can complain when you're to safety.

[And with that, Colin starts running. And he's not terribly worried about the water spilling over him.]
notduchess: (If that's the order...)

[ This doesn't strike Duke as a 'complaint', honestly. This is a foul look-

Okay, fine, Visual Complaint.
]

More wanting to complain about my health. [ She would rather be able to run thanks. So about the necessity of this.

Also she won't dump it on him. Because who knows how the water is on the skyway. And because she doesn't want a wet side.
