[Early in the morning on Day 225, most people are probably asleep. For the couple of stragglers who may still be awake so late, though, they may notice something strange. At 2:31 am, any lights that are on start to hum, and flicker in and out of dimness.

At 2:32 am, every light in the Bastion (excluding the emergency lights) shuts off entirely.

At 2:33 am, a horrible grinding noise can be heard throughout the Bastion, seemingly coming from everywhere at once. This sound continues on for several minutes, throughout everything else that begins to happen.

At 2:34 am, for anyone outside Nathaniel can be seen running from the Apartments towards the Monument as if his life depended on it.

At 2:35 am, ever so slowly, sections of the Bastion begin to sink.

[She feels like she just went five rounds with a steel wall and lost. Walking like that is difficult to say the least, but Bon's help gets her out of bed with Kintaro on their heels making worried noises the entire way out.

When they stop, Rin gives Bon a confused stare only to realize that he's looking for Yukio.]

... hospital. H-he was still workin'...

[Oh right. Of course that workaholic would be working so late at night. Bon nods, and he'll move to head out of the apartment and down the hall to the stairs.

Once they get there, though, Bon realizes one big problem: with all the power out, there's no lights in the stairway. They'll have to make their way down blindly, which won't be easy, since the shaking is still going on. This is a long time for an earthquake to last, just what is going on outside?

Bon looks back to Rin, and then he starts down the stairs, holding onto the railing with one hand and Rin with the other. He's trying to go first, so that if Rin stumbles she'll fall into him, instead of tumbling all the way down.]

[When they reach the stairs, Rin tentatively moves her hands from her ears, wincing at the still-painful ringing that only increases with what's going on. Her head is pounding so hard, and a part of her absently wonders if this is the kind of hell Bon has to deal with when it comes to his migraines. Moving hurts, moving her head hurts worse, and it is taking all her remaining composure to keep from being nauseous all over everything.

In the darkness she moves carefully, feeling for the stairs and the rail with Kintaro behind her.

Part way down with no incidents, she has to stop, hand against the wall and breath coming in ragged gasps.]

Wh-why won't it stop?! That noise--!

I don't know, but it must be something serious, if it's still going on.

[It's only been a few minutes, but those few minutes feel like an eternity. And for as horrible as it feels to Bon, he just knows it's got to be worse for Rin. So he speaks loudly, so Rin can hear, but he doesn't yell.

He does try to get her to keep moving, though. As dangerous as being in a building during an earthquake is, being in a stairwell is worse. They've only got 2 more floors to go, they can make it.]

[At least she can hear him like that, agonizing as it is. There's a nod, knowing that they need to keep moving. Kintaro gives a squeak of agreement and slowly Rin takes to the stairs again.

Only one slip happens on the way down, landing her on her rear to add to the ache she's already feeling. Luckily it's little more than a bruise and she's back on her feet to move again, finally making it for the door to see the frantic mess of people running about outside.]

[It's not just the people outside, though. As soon as they get out there, the fact that several patches of the Bastion are suddenly lower then the rest is very, very clear. Even in the darkness it's hard to miss it.

Sorry Rin, the running isn't done yet.]

C'mon, we need to go!

[To where, he doesn't know. But following the other people running seems like a good idea.]

Where though?!

[She recalls that conversation she had with Colin during the feast, about looking for another place to go in case of emergencies at the Bastion. They hadn't gotten very far on it, though...]

Let's go for the Skyway, At least if we go there we can head for other landmasses if stuff keeps falling!

[Of course, now they have to get there without falling into any of the dips in the ground. They're only growing bigger, and eventually they won't be able to escape from them.]

[She can't argue with that logic. If they're lucky the place Colin suggested for a fall back area will be usable enough until something can be done a out this.

She nods, stumbling to follow with him, trying to avoid the sinking parts of the Bastion even as her steps are awkward and uncertain with the continued ringing in her ears.]

[They're nearing the Skyway Entrance when someone suddenly ducks underneath one of Rin's arms, wrapping it slightly awkwardly around their shoulders (because height differences, harhar) and helping to steady her steps.

Bon might've been able to hear Yukio's call as he and Oshawott ran up behind them, but Rin probably couldn't. Not until he's already very much in her personal space.]

C'mon, almost there!

[He's not wondering why it is Rin can't seem to walk straight just yet. Getting to the Skyway is first priority.]

[Oh there you are Yukio, so good to see you.

Bon just nods to Yukio and accepts the help, so they can both work together at getting Rin out onto the Skyway while the two pokemon trail behind them.

Once they pass the entrance and are far enough away from the Bastion that the ground is stable, Bon will finally stop hurrying and start looking around for answers.]

Okumura-Sensei, do you have any idea what's going on?

[Not with the way her ears are ringing, no. Which does lead to her being a bit startled when Yukio gets next to her. Thankfully it's to help and not for any other reason, and it's help she'll gladly accept. This is probably the worst time ever to have balance issues thanks to a damaged inner ear.

Kintaro doesn't bother to greet Oshawott outside of a nod. He's far too worried about his trainer to provide more than that.]

[Oshawott can be quite the derp sometimes, but he's got enough sense about him to take whatever it is that's happening very seriously, returning the nod quickly and keeping close to Yukio's heels.

Yuki looks out over the more solid chunks of rock they've landed on, already on the lookout for all the dangers that come standard with the Skyway.]

I don't know, but I saw Nathaniel-san running toward the Monument. With the way the lights went...

Can the Monument run out of power?
