Format: action
Warnings: none

[On Day 201, after several people have fallen ill, another meeting is called. This time, however, it is not Nathaniel who has called for everyone. It's Zahi.]

Okay, I know everyone's been worried about the people in the hospital, and it looks like our fears weren't unfounded: some of the people who went on that last trip, they caught something.

I've been watching the symptoms, and I think I know what this is. A long time ago, back before Zayna was born, there was a terrible illness that claimed the lives of many Ura. Everyone who fell sick here, they had the same symptoms as those who caught the disease before.

On the plus side, this means that it can be cured. I know of a clinic, way out in the Terminals, where there should be some medicine stocked. Not only can we cure the sick, but we can give another kind of medicine to those who aren't sick yet, so they won't catch it at all.

The downside is that it's gonna take a while to get there. It'll be at least two days there, and possibly more to track down exactly where the clinic is, and then the same amount of time back. We're looking at a four-day minimum, which means we won't be much help to those who are sick right now. They'll either be dead or getting better by the time we get back.

Then there's the fact that it's really dangerous out there. Zayna and I were out on the Terminals before we came here, and let's just say that there's a reason we went looking for somewhere safer to stay.

If you'd rather stay here, I can understand that. The Bastion is an amazing place, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone here managed to save everyone. But I'm not a fan of putting all my eggs in one basket, so I figured it's worth a shot to go and try to get some of the medicine.

What do you guys think?

[ Kohaku had been fortunate in that she had not caught the illness. Thus far, anyway. Still, seeing as there were many who had caught it, she wanted to make sure she could do something to help. So, she had been here in the hospital, doing her best to take care of the patients who did have it.

She was taking a small break now, though, having been on her feet for the past few hours. She found a place to sit down and let out a breath.

This whole thing was heartbreaking. As much care as she and others had tried to give to the ones infected, there just didn't seem to be much improvement overall. She was more than worried. It was hard to be around all of this and keep an optimistic attitude, but she was really trying. ]

[Zia has to keep being told when to stop, when to eat, when to rest; she can't shake the feeling that if she just works harder, things will get better, if she turns her back for a moment, she's going to lose an opportunity.

But nothing's working. No matter what any of them do, nobody's getting any better. There's hardly anything she can do to even make any of them comfortable.

She has to keep trying, though, despite her exhaustion. Though she doesn't consciously acknowledge it, it's the one good thing about Colin trying to run the hospital like some kind of military regime: he tells her she needs to take a break, and she's too tired and timid to do otherwise.

Dragging her feet and adjusting the scarf tied tight over her face, she stalks down the halls until she finds Kohaku—and, primarily, a place to sit.

She worries that if she takes a seat, she won't get up. Someone else's presence might be an adequate motivator, though, to keep her active. She approaches, but doesn't sit down right away.

Is it okay if I join you?

[ She looks up and at the source of that voice as she's addressed, but very quickly nods. Kohaku tries to smile at the other girl, even if it's hard to smile at all during all of this. ]

It's perfectly fine, go ahead!

[ She gestures to an empty seat. The girl looked like she really needed a break, so the sooner she was seated, the better.

Of course, now that she has company, she's not sure of how to handle this. They couldn't just make small talk about the whole ordeal, could they? ]

... I'm Kohaku. It's nice to meet you.

[ That's ... a start. ]
