A few days ago, some residents of the Bastion might have become aware of a confrontation happening at a certain Ura's humble abode. There was some yelling- although not clear- and the result was a very harried looking Rin Okumura forcibly dragging away resident Mancer Nathaniel. The next couple of days have been quiet, but today... Well, if anyone wants to ask about and see what the deal was, it seems like today is the day.

It seems like Nathaniel has finally quit his own self imposed isolation, if only so that he doesn't starve to death. Apparently anger can only sustain a man for so long. He can be seen storming through the Bastion, a thundercloud practically gathered about him, or at the eating area looking very much like he wants to be left alone.

Zulf has been less of a hermit. Anyone who has seen him since the argument has probably noticed his black eye and sore nose. He seems angry as well, although it's quieter and colder underneath all his civility. More noticeably, he's been hard at work building a few fences near the edges of the Bastion- mostly near his tent but also in other areas as well. They're not the best fences, but they're good enough, hopefully. You can approach him at the shrine, his tent, or anywhere, really... He's as available as he's always been. He might even approach you, just to warn about falling off the edge of the Bastion.

Seriously, this place has needed safety railings for ages now. Who's bright idea was it not to include safety railings? ~~RUCKS...~~

Anyone wandering by the Kitchens today will notice... Damn, that's a lot of yelling. And slamming of things. Should knives be used to chop that hard...? That's right, Rin is in a bad mood and anyone who comes near will immediately know it. The excess swearing is probably a good clue. Unlike the other two, she's unleashing her temper with wild abandon in the sanctity of her kitchen where no one will bug her. Well. Unless YOU bug her...

Of course, these three aren't the only ones noticeable about the Bastion today! It looks like the Ura residents are just coming out of the woodwork.

Anyone who's talked to either of the latest Ura additions knows that Zulf came in with Zia. While not involved with the row from a few days ago, she seems just as worried as Zulf seems angry. It's possible to see her wandering about with her pet Pecker chick. Might see her coming away after a discussion with Zulf, too... Maybe she knows what's going on?

There's also Zanya and her father Zahi who have been apparently a bit more sociable these last few days. There's apparently a subject they're both interested in which they'll approach people about, although they'll do so differently. Zahi will strike up friendly conversation, but Zanya will simply get right to the point: do you have any idea what happened?

Feel free to strike up conversation with any of them, or even try and talk to everyone if you wish.

[ooc: This is your characters chance to investigate just what the drama is all about! In such a small place as the Bastion, it's a bit hard to miss... Feel free to have your characters speculate or gossip with the Ura NPCs about what may have happened or if they caught onto a sliver of what happened (like Zulf and Nathaniel falling off the edge of the Bastion), or for them to go the more direct route by talking to either Nathaniel, Zulf, Rin, or Zia.]

[Long story short is that Rin went to get Venn's journal from Nathaniel. Upon realizing who exactly wanted it, Nathaniel went to confront Zulf. There was an argument on just who and what caused the Calamity... and then Nat punched Zulf in the face, they rolled off the edge of the Bastion, and Rin separated them after they got blown back up.]

... I'unno. Honestly. I'm not in a good place but... talkin' about it might just make me more angry.

[She sighs, moving her skirt under her knees as she goes to kneel on the floor where some of the mess he was working on had landed.]

[He's quiet for a bit as he helps clean things up. He looks like he's lost in thought.]

[... After a bit, he sighs. He really does need to talk to someone, and even if they're not really close he does at least trust Rin. He needs a more... human opinion on this. ~~Sorry grandpadragon.~~]

I... mm. I'm not... very good with words... but...

[He shakes his head as he looks down at his hands.]

... I don't want people to fight. I was... I'm supposed to bring change to my world. The world I was summoned to, I mean. But I'm not... complete. But even... even if that world is gone - and so is... the other half of me... I want to help end fighting. Even if it's just in a small way.

... But I'm not very good at it. I can fight, but I don't really... understand. I want to understand. Why humans do the things they do. Why they fight. How they can stop fighting. Why do people hurt each other?

[He looks up at Rin again, eyes wide and watering.]

I need to help. But I don't know how. I don't know how to start.

[Rin's hand had reached out to pick up a broken piece of porcelain, but her motion halted at his question.

Why do people hurt each other?

There were a lot of things she had gotten answers to recently, but there were just as many questions left, and that had been one she had asked since she was little.

Even when she was sometimes the one doing the hurting.]

... I don't know, Ryu. I don't know why people hurt each other.

... Sorry. I didn't mean to... make you more upset.

[He wipes his face a little.]

Is it... wrong that I wish I was born a person sometimes? I don't understand a lot of things people do... and maybe I could help people better if I did.

[She forced a weak smile at him, shifting over to where he was rather than keep the distance between them.]

It's not wrong. I wish I'd just been human a lot, too. But I don't think you gotta be human just to wanna help them.

[... He tilts his head a little bit.]

What do you mean? You're human.

[At least as far as he's concerned.]

[Humans don't usually have tails, hun.]

Me? Nah. Just half.

[... Yes they do. At least in his world.]

You look human, though.

I know. I'm guessin' a lotta half-breeds do. And I was raised human for most of my life anyway, so it wasn't like I knew what I was until certain things happened.

[Her tail gives a twitch at that, as if adding something to the conversation]

Demon-possessed humans still look mostly human, too. Maybe it's just a stronger trait or somethin'? I'unno. You'd have to ask Night about it, she'd know more.

[He doesn't really want to push, but he's more... confused than anything.]

'Half-breeds'?

[How is babby formed.]

... oh uhm. A half-demon, half-human. Basically my mother was human but my father was a demon.

[Not just any demon either, but... not getting in to that.]

[... Wait weren't demons a type of monster? He just looks really confused.]

What kind of human was she?

[YUP.]

Huh? I'unno, normal I guess. I never knew her.

[... Headtiiiilt.]

I mean like... Grass Runner? But you're not furry enough. Something like someone from Windia? But you don't have wings. Maybe something like the Imperials... your ears are kind of pointed like theirs are. There's a lot of different kinds of humans.

You don't have different tribes of humans where you're from?

Well... I think we did like a really really... really long time ago.

But uh... there's not that much difference. Humans look... human, just with different skin colors and faces and stuff.

There's a lotta different worlds here. A place without demons seems weird to me now, too, but they obviously existed before the Calamity ever happened.

Yeah, I guess...

[Aside from the whole 'worlds being destroyed' thing.]

People aren't chasing me, I don't have to fight if I don't want to... I can be a person. Just me, not 'The Yorae Dragon' or 'the other half of the First Emperor'.

[There's a quiet laugh at that, though the sadness attached to it is pretty thick.]

I had people tryin' to kill me just 'cause of who my father was. Like I chose to be his daughter or somethin'.

[He reaches out to bump her side a little bit. Not enough to hurt, just enough to show that he's there.]

That's stupid. Even I know you can't pick things like that.

And they summoned us. I guess that means they're allowed to use our power for whatever they want, but they want to hurt other people with it.
