[ The tail is kind of cute, actually, but it is miraculously something that she doesn't comment on. It seemed a bit in poor taste, given the context of the situation.
Marie slumps in relief rather dramatically, and it's fairly easy to tell the source of the blood. She'd taken a hit to the head and it neatly split the skin along her hair line.
(Rin might be better off just using that to explain why Marie was being, well, Marie.) ]
I was so turned around out there. I'd say I was going in circles, but I don't even know if there had been circles to go in.

[Owch. Rin can imagine what monsters on the skyway she had gotten in to a tussle with to get that kind of wound.]
You're bleedin' pretty bad. Think you can stand? We can get you cleaned up and get that wound looked at.
no subject
Thanks, I appreciate the help.
[ She gets up, coltishly awkward for a moment there as her aching legs debate whether or not it's worth it to work right then, and she then steadies herself. Now that she's gotten a chance to catch up with herself after being startled, she's already smiling despite the situation. ]
There we go. Don't worry, I'm a lot more durable than I look right now.

Point being this place kind of sucks when your normal defenses don't work for shit.]
... pretty damn chipper for a newbie. But hey, that might be good around here. We're not exactly the most optimistic bunch.
[Marie's smile is contagious, and Rin winds up smiling right back before turning to guide her to the apartments.]
C'mon. I'll show you to the apartments.

She was injured and confused, but she had to put up a strong front when dealing with a teenager. Maybe she'd melt down hilariously later, but for right now she was only letting on that she was equal parts exhausted and completely grateful for the change of pace. ]
Well, this is a real improvement. I can't help but be happy.
no subject
Well not entirely on their own. There are other adults there, ones that have been there longer and seem to have slightly more idea of what's going on.]
It's a little rough 'round the edges right now, but we're makin' it home, bit by bit.
no subject
Home, huh?
[ Poor kid. This was serious, and here this girl was just doing her best to hang in there. As for hanging in there, Marie was only doing that by sheer stubbornness. Walking, it turned out, was hard when your knees wanted to lock and your feet didn't always seem to want to bring you forward in a relatively straight line. ]
I'm sure you're doing great. Ah, I didn't catch your name. Mine is Marie.

Not much else we can do...
[Some people saw it, when they first arrived. Those broken remnants of something familiar from their home, statues of people that may have looked like some one they once knew. Others missed it, too busy running from Squirts and other Windbags. Some just ignored it, and tried to pretend like they hadn't seen anything at all.
Rin wasn't about to say anything unless Marie said it first, though. She wasn't going to be responsible for laying down the heavy facts right off the bat and having the woman utterly break down.]
Rin Okumura. Nice t'meetcha, Marie. ... well. Nice as it can be, all things considered.
Anyway. We're almost there.

She isn't even sure what's real, honestly. It was possible that none of it was. Marie was one of those people that had a particular resistance to insanity, but it was the simplest answer. ]
Mm, nice to meet you, too.
[ She falls quiet briefly and then she just makes small talk. ]
That's a Japanese name, isn't it? It's pretty.
no subject
But unless they're all having some sort of mass hallucination, Marie is still very much sane and this is very much real.]
Mm? Oh, yeah...
[She might be blushing a bit at that. She doesn't get compliments often.]
I'm from True Cross City, Japan. Me and another guy here are.
no subject
She was just trying to not think about that. If she kept going forward, then she could address everything else later. Much, much later. ]
Ahh, so far away. I was in the US before... this.
no subject
Oh? Where in the US? There's someone here from there, though... I guess the chances of you knowin' one person out of a whole country is pretty slim.
no subject
[ She wavers briefly, but then keeps trudging on. ]
Maybe people have towns in common, if nothing else.
[ She isn't getting her hopes up here. ]
no subject
Do you know some one named Maka? Or Crona?
no subject
It turns out that relief is the one thing that almost makes her break down completely. ]
They're my students! Where are they? Oh no, Crona-!
[ Crona wouldn't know how to handle this, even if Maka was there as support. ]
no subject
W-wait before you go I gotta as you a weird question but I really need an answer. Is Maka a boy or a girl?
no subject
Wh-what?
no subject
[She already feels bad for inadvertently causing Crona to freak out. It's probably not going to be any easier on Marie but she can try to head some of it off before they meet again.]
no subject
She's a girl?
[ She didn't mean for that to come out like a question, but she's just so confused. ]
no subject
... uhm. Okay. ... Maka here is a guy. We don't know why but some people are comin' from like... I-I'unno a different version of the same world? Like, my friend Bon... he says I'm a guy where he's from.
I just... didn't want you to be freaked out when you saw him.
no subject
That must be it. Something slipped loose and that was that.
But what else was she going to do?
So she just makes herself smile. ]
Well, thank you for the warning. Could you... show me where Crona might be? Before anything else, I need to see Crona.
no subject
[She points, rather than guide Marie there herself. Corna was flighty at the best of times and still wasn't completely comfortable with Rin, so she figured it best Marie just go on her own.
Luckily chances of her getting lost are slim - the building is right there.]
no subject
[ Miracle of miracles, she does not get lost.
Yes, it was a possibility. These things happen.
She also does her best to wipe off the blood on her face when she steps away, but that's relatively unsuccessful. Should she have asked for a place to clean up first? Yes? Well, she's not exactly on the top of her game so that's a no go.
When she gets to that numbered room, she knocks because having some manners meant something even right then. Or she thought they did. She's not sure. Hopefully they were in there like the girl said.
Her voice is more than a little ragged when she calls out: ]
Crona! Are you there?
no subject
Then a knock, and Crona jumps, head banging against the wall.]
... Miss Marie? [That sounded like Miss Marie. It's enough to get Crona standing up and walking to the door, pulling it open just slightly to peek out.]
no subject
At least nothing and no one was broken in the process, but that spoke more of her exhaustion than anything else. ]
You're really alive!
[ She was very eloquent right then, too. ]
