thebastion | Pre-Day 61: pre-game threading

[Bon's eyes go wide for a moment as he realizes what Rin is insinuating. Then he quickly turns his head and looks away, to cover for the stabbing pain he feels in his chest. Koneko, Renzou, his parents, everyone...they're all gone?

No. Not gone. They just haven't been found yet. Until he finds statues of them, he's going to keep believing that they're out there. He can't bear to think of any possibility.

Still, he's visibly upset at this, which is why he's not looking at Rin. He doesn't want to show his anger and pain to anyone right now.]

Damnit...

... we have to keep lookin' for 'em.

[She's been thinking along the same lines as him, though with each passing day a little more doubt worms its way in to her heart. It's in her voice, as much as she tries to hide it.]

[Rin is right, Bon knows she is. But he and Rin are pretty much the toughest two students in their class, and Bon himself just barely made it there. How could anyone of the others survive?

But no, now wasn't a time for negativity. If it was just them, then they would have to go rescue the others, once they found them.]

You're right.

[So Bon sits up finally. He's got a red mark on his forehead from the medical box, but he doesn't seem to care. He's got to be strong, not only for Rin's sake, but for the sake of everyone else.]

We'll find everyone.

[Rin turns back to look at him, a momentary look of surprise on her features. It wasn't that she didn't expect him to say it - it was hearing him say it after twenty long, arduous and tiring days of trying to keep her own hopes up only to have them erode under self doubt and the loneliness of not having anyone from home there.

Even if the Rin he knew was male, he's still Bon to her, and hearing him say the things she's been trying so hard to hold on to drags so much of that lost faith back up, giving her something to hold on tight to.

A relieved smile finally replaced the surprised blinking.]

Mhm! ... c'mon, we should finish gettin' you patched up.

[It's funny, Rin's smile is positively infectious. It's not because she's a girl either, Bon had found himself grinning as a result of Rin's goofy smiles long before their world had been broken apart. Sure, they got into yelling matches a lot, but during those rare moments when everyone was calm and not flailing over some test or assignment, it was hard not to smile.

Which is why Bon finds himself smiling as well, if only a little bit.]

Yeah, I guess so.

[Then he looks down at his arms, and whoops they're still bleeding all over his clothes. He really needs to get bandaged up before he loses too much blood.]

[Infectious positivity is a trait all Rins have. It's just been harder for her to tap in to that as of late, though she has a feeling with Bon here she might be able to hold on to it a little more.

She starts picking up the spilled supplies.]

Uhm. If you wanna take care of it yourself you can. I just started 'cause you were dozin' off.

Yeah, I should be able to manage it.

[Whoops asking for help is too much for him.]

...thanks. For saving my butt, I mean.

But... she'll let him take care of his wounds himself and focus on reclaiming the first aid kit.]

Hey, no way I'd leave you out there. Just be glad you didn't run in to some of the really nasty ones!

If they're as annoying as those little ones, I don't want to see 'em.

[He's actually pretty competent at taking care of his own wounds, and he doesn't even have to strip to do so! Mercifully they didn't get through his pants and scratch his legs.]

They're... a lot more than annoyin'. They're fast. And they hit hard. Some of 'em even have weapons.

[She stops picking up things, fiddling with a small bottle of some sort of ointment that some one found on the skyway a while back, gaze to the ground at her feet. She hated admitting this, but he needs to know how truly dangerous it is out there.]

They've almost killed me a couple'a times...

[Bon had just finished bandaging his arm, and he looks up sharply when Rin says that.]

If they're that dangerous, then you shouldn't be going alone.

[Even though this Rin is different, Bon is assuming that she is a capable fighter. Which makes the 'almost killed' comment that much more meaningful: Rin is the strongest fighter by far out of their little group. While he isn't the best at strategy, he's sill part demon and far more resilient than any human could hope to be. It must be serious, if Rin was almost killed.

Once he's recovered, Bon fully intends on going out to the Skyway to find his friends. He and Rin will just have to stick together.]

[Oop. So glad she's not actually looking at him right now.]

Yeah well... the first time I didn't really have a choice. It was when I landed.

[Other times she got just a little too far away from the group, or turned around somewhere on the skyway and wound up alone.

She's still working on that 'stick together' thing.]

And what about the other times?

[See, Bon is perceptive. Rin wouldn't have said 'first time' if there hadn't been more times.

Depending on her answer, he may give her a hard time.]

[Crap.]

[Rin you are a terrible liar. Just. Terrible.

Hell her tail is even twitching erratically. That's a dead give away.]

[Meaning he knows. You get into trouble, Rin.]

Rin lets out a groan and tosses her head back, staring at the strange sky above them for a minute before dropping it back down.]

I got... separated from the group. Twice.

What are you, stupid?!

[Sorry, he just can't believe how stupid Rin was. The Skyway is terrifying, and getting separated from a group sounds like a REALLY bad idea. No wonder Rin almost got killed.

The rest of what he says isn't nearly as sharp as the beginning, though. It's more frustration speaking.]

Do you need a leash or something?

What?! No! I don't need a damn leash! It's easy to get lost out there, okay?!

[Wow Rin defensive much?

No she really is that dumb, Bon. You've got every right to be concerned.]

Well you better not 'get lost' anymore, because it'll be a pain to go and chase you down.

[He wouldn't leave her out there by herself if she got lost, but he would yell at her for getting lost once he found her. Clearly they are good friends.]

[Best friends.]

Fine but the same goes for you, got it?!

[Yup. They're yelling again. Some of the other residents have just turned to snickering quietly amongst themselves. Obviously they're not going to tear each other apart so it's merely friendly rivalry worth chattering about.

They have to get their entertainment somehow.]

[There's no tv in the Bastion so this is like a daytime soap opera or something. All My Exorcists.

But Bon will smirk at that, because he is confident in his abilities.]

I don't get lost.

... yeah. Sure. Tell that to me when you take two left turns on the wrong skyway.

[DONE WITH YOUR BULLSHIT BON]

I'm smart enough to stay with the group at least. And I don't need a leash to do so.

[NO IT IS ON NOW]
