The party is nearly over. Last drinks anyone? [Day 146]

Who: Everyone
Open: Open
When: Day 146
Where: All over the Bastion
What: Day 4 of the festival
Format: Any
Warnings: None

Yet another torch arrives in the wee morning hours, this one decorated with chains.

Today, the eldest of the Bastion and the youngest of the Bastion are gifted with another charm for their bracelets.

As for games, it seems to be strategy games all over the place! Games much like Earthly counterparts, such as Go, Shogi, Mahjong, Chess (even a 3D chess-like game, should you be so brave as to try it), Checkers, Risk (et al). Winners of these games will get a few more shards to add to their respective collections.

And there will also be a massive tower in the center of the Bastion, designed much like a climbing wall. Get to the top and retrieve the pendant in the set amount of time, and you'll earn another charm towards your bracelet!

As an extra to the ladies of the Bastion, there will be two special things exclusively for them - first off, Pyth will only be usable by ladies. Anyone who identifies as male will simply not receive a reaction from Ptyh should they step in to the pit. AND there will also be a special tug of war game for ladies only, using a chain. Acobi is the God of Abandon, and as such women will be free to do whatever they want today, regardless of their upbringing or beliefs. Go nuts, girls! The girls who win the tug of war will also get another charm, as well as two shards per person on the team that wins.

Evening will bring the next torch, this one adorned with a tower, and a massive feast of much healthier food and drink than what's been offered up until. Even if you eat and drink a great deal, you'll find yourself lacking any hangovers or stomach aches the following morning.

The soft music that's been playing every day of the festival will suddenly quit at around "5pm", and the remainder of the night will be filled with live music played by the NPCs, and even a few PCs should they choose to join in. The music will be in the gazebo with seats set up all around it like an outdoor performance stage, but with enough room up front for spontaneous dancing.

The night ends with this joyful celebration to close out the festival.

[... Oh. Hello there. He looks up.]

They all seem to be strategy games. Some of these I recognize from my world, at least somewhat.

[He plays with the pawn in his hand, rolling it around.]

Chess is sometimes called the 'sport of kings' in my world. It's very common.

Kings must be well taught in strategy... For people and war both.

[It's a bit hard to get such a good look at the pieces when they're so tiny, but Paarthurnax does his best.]

How does one play?

[AZ shifts the board a bit so the other can see more clearly. He picks up the pieces and holds them up one by one.]

The goal is to capture the opponent's king - this piece - by making it so it can't move. The pieces all move in different ways.

[He briefly explains how all of the pieces move, holding them up so Paarthurnax can see.]

[Paarthurnax is an attentive listener, staying silent during AZ's explanation. He makes a thoughtful rumble as he finishes.]

Each piece is a vital part of the whole. It must take great intelligence to use them all effectively.

Yes. Even the smallest pawn can become a queen. They all have a part to play, and a single piece can change the battle entirely.

Would you honor me with a lesson, then? It seems you are very knowledgeable in this.

... All right. If you'd like, I can move the pieces for you.

[Maybe they can eventually make a larger set...]

[Someone call Colin for another project.]

That would be much appreciated. So, the white pieces move first, is this correct?

[personal profile] gianthobo 2014-01-11 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That's right. You can be white, if you'd like.
wayofvoice: (Feim Zii Gron + But we will escape it)

I will do so, then. The first move is not always a guarantee of victory, of course.

[He twists his head a bit to inspect the board, thinking for a moment.]

The Pawn before the Knight, on the Queen's side. Move that, if you may.

[He moves the pawn, and then moves one of his own pawns. It's... actually been a long while since he's played.]
