Day 117 :: After the Core Hunt [open]
Who: everyone, get in here
Open: Open
When: late in the day on Day 117
Where: all around the Bastion
What: There is a new building in the Bastion, and all the buildings now have power
Format: action
Warnings: some of the PCs are a bit broken
[Once again, it was a difficult hunt for the core. Though there was less physical damage this time, the mental damage is very apparent: four residents of the Bastion come back in far worse shape than they left in, and many others are possibly affected as well.
But not all is bad. With the return of a core, new life springs into the Bastion. All around, lights flicker into existence. Light fixtures and electrical sockets spring out of walls and ceilings. Stoves change to become more modern, and refrigerators suddenly appear in all of the apartments.
There is now free, unlimited electricity in the Bastion.
In addition, a new building springs up on the southern side of the Bastion. This apartment building is eight stories tall, and contains both a laundry room and several three-bedroom apartments. While the first apartment building is by no means full, this gives everyone more places to choose to live.]

A very worried Rin
Of course she had been worried even before then. Not going had been an active decision on Rin's part to keep herself distant from the dangers on the Skyway until she could handle herself and her powers better, but it also meant not knowing if her friends needed help or not.
She had no way of knowing, of course, if her being there would have made a difference this time, but immediately seeing them in such an awful state made her wish she'd gone anyway.
She abandoned the Distillery kitchen the moment she heard them returning, bolting to the group barefoot with wide, worried eyes.]
What happened?!
no subject
He'd left them behind. He'd left everyone he cared about behind.
His gasps for breath gradually turn into sobs, as he curls up on his side in the dirt. He would be unmovable, inconsolable for quite a while - at least until others started to come back. They had to come back. They had to come back, right?]
no subject
She abandoned her questions and her spot to run to him, dropping to her knees next to him and taking him by the shoulders, trying to shake at least some sort of reaction out of him.]
Kaoru! Kaoru, say somethin'!
no subject
A little more time and he might manage to be able to talk about it, but not right now. At least he's not seriously injured - scraped up from the way he hit the ground, yes, but at least Taisan managed to keep the monsters off him while he ran back.
He just covers his face with one of his arms, sobbing quietly. Taisan. Why had he listened to him? Why had he just abandoned them all back there?]

Seimei would never willingly stay in a hospital, and since his injuries were superficial, the only thing that was called for was rest and comfort. So he set everything up at home explained it all to Kaoru, and left the boy to care for the onmyoji.
After all, Taisan had his own interests to attend to, and Seimei didn't need him just then. ]
no subject
He's not happy when they leave there, but he knows that Seimei would rather be at home, so doesn't raise his voice to object, just walks quietly back with Taisan.
Once Taisan he gone, all Kaoru had to do was wait.
...but Seimei looked mighty uncomfortable like that. How had he managed to get hold of that relic of a pillow, anyway?
He gently eases it out, supporting Seimei's head and setting it down in his lap. His hands fell to combing through Seimei's long hair, gently smoothing it back from his forehead. while Tama-chan settled down beside them, resting her head against Seimei's shoulder and blinking lazily - the time between blinks gradually getting longer and longer.
Kaoru was so tired he ached but he couldn't sleep now.]
...Seimei?
[he wet his lips a little nervously. He wanted to talk. But he had no idea what to talk about. Not just to keep himself awake, but because he wanted Seimei to hear his voice. So he pulled out anything he could. Stories. Half-remembered poems. Songs, even. Anything he could just to keep up a steady stream as he continued to stroke through Seimei's soft hair - just so he knew. Just so he knew Kaoru was near]
no subject
That done, Taisan left the cooking fire going to keep the house warmer then normal, piled extra bedding nearby and left once more, poking Tama-chan's side on his way out.
Hours later, well after "dark", the onmyoji finally moved on his own, eyes moving behind closed lids, fingers curling and lips twitching in the throes of a deep dream. More than once he moaned, and at one point, Kaoru heard his own name.
It was still some time after that before Seimei finally woke. He simply inhaled deeply, dark eyes opening halfway to stare at the ceiling. ]

His hand hovering briefly at Alucard's shoulder, a moment of thought redirected the path to thread through pale hair and comb it back from the dhampire's face. He didn not leave the hand there, at least, knowing he'd been invasive enough already. ]
You do know you're back now, and this is real, right? [ He asked quietly enough that only Alucard could here. Evidence enough that Taisan knew what had happened. A secret revealed that he might otherwise not have. ]

...This is...the hospital? [A relevant question; he'd only seen the building from the outside before today.] ...What is that strange buzzing?
no subject
Everyone made it back in one piece, if you're curious. Some are a little stir-fried in the skull, but they'll get over it sooner or later. Mortals are funny that way.
[ He shifted slightly, turning to look over his shoulder, listening, perhaps. He did that sometimes - just listened to things no one else could hear. ]
I wanted to help. I came back too late. I'm sorry...

He wouldn't stay out there, though, because none of the survivors would have stood for that even in the wake of everything that happened.
Once Rin had finished with Nathaniel and Kaoru, she returned to the entrance to see what else could be done to help, finding Ippo on the ground shortly after.
It wasn't difficult to get him up in to her arms, though he was much larger than her and not easy to orient. But her strength helped her, and soon enough she had him to the hospital and in a bed.
What happened after that... well... that depended on him and whether or not he would be able to come back from it.]

For someone in a catatonic state, Ippo's vitals seemed strong. It appeared he was out of any immediate danger. Of course, Stein couldn’t offer an accurate prognosis until he woke up.
If he did.]

So she waited until it had calmed some before finally going to check on her fellow survivors. Most were in the same condition as Crona, and warranted no more than a few minutes in their respective spaces before she moved on knowing there wasn't anything to do. But it was Crona that made her linger. The young sword wielder with a troubled mind and a strange past was some one Ahime had connected with, if even for a moment, more than many of the others. And it was Crona that she was most concerned about.
So she stayed, waiting patiently for them to wake up.]

I guess... I'm kind of useless at core collecting. I wonder if someone can teach me a way to be of some help.
[Just being able to fly like normal would make things so easy. Of course, that will never happen for many reasons.]

I’d like to take some vital signs, that’s all.
[His sights shift to Crona and light refracts off the lenses of his glasses, shielding his eyes from view. Still, the expression he wears isn’t necessarily a disconcerting one. He’s even got a stethoscope dangling limply around his neck, quite possibly for the first time anyone’s seen in a good long while.
He’s not about to lecture anyone about patient privacy. Not now. Not in a place like this. Plus, if Ahime’s presence will help Crona come out of the corner, she’s more than welcome to stay.]
