Day 100 :: EVENT - Core [OPEN]
Who: Everyone
Open: Open
When: Day 100
Where: Skyway: The Wharf District
What: Another Core has been located on the Skyway. The PCs must go and retrieve it.
Format: action
Warnings: none
[One hundred days have passed since the Calamity occurred. In those one hundred days, nearly forty survivors have made their way to the Bastion, hoping for a chance at survival.
Of those forty, only twenty-eight remain. Morale drops with each disappearance. The reality of the situation, that this is what humanity has to look forward to, is finally setting in. With a mostly-broken Bastion as their only form of protection, everything is beginning to look bleak.
However, the Cores offer a small bit of hope. With each Core, life springs anew within the Bastion. With each Core, humanity is brought one step back to the way it was before the Calamity. With each Core, the residents of the Bastion can scout out further into new locations, looking for more Cores and survivors. Cores represent life in the world after the Calamity, which is why they are so precious.
And that is also why the survivors within the Bastion aren't the only ones searching for them.
On day one hundred, Nathaniel tells everyone about another Core out on the Skyway. This time it is within the Wharf District, which consists of hundreds of docks and long-abandoned boats. However, unlike previous Core retrievals, there are no monsters around. All that the Wharf District has to offer is shadows and silence.
The PCs should probably make quick work of their searching, because as quiet as the Wharf District is now, it won't remain that way for long. Monsters are drawn to the core, so it is only a matter of time before they show up.]
((For now, characters will be free to search the area. Just specify where your characters are searching if you want them to find anything. Shit will be going down after everyone has a chance to get started/search some boats.))

Ippo found it mildly ironic that this core was supposed in the Wharf District...he had grown up around the water and boats, so this was as close to home as he'd felt in a long while since the Calamity had happened. So far there didn't seem to be any monsters to speak of, though it was kind of unnerving to see boats floating atop...nothing; as if the water had been the only thing to succumb to gravity.
Nervously, Ippo placed his foot on a boat that was close to a dock; pressing down to make sure it wouldn't fall away once he stepped on it. Once he was sure it wasn't going anywhere, he hopped aboard and began to root around; trying to see if he could find anything of value aboard, be it the core or any valuable supplies he could bring back.
Heh...this brings back memories. Maybe I can find a first aid kit or something...Mom always made sure to have one on deck.

I can help here, if anyone wants a faster trip.
[ Otherwise, Tris is going to go back to the Bastion. She isn't going to do any of this fighting that seems to happen on these trips, not on this Skyway nonsense. ]

[It would certainly make moving things around the Skyway a lot easier, if they had a boat they could all use.
For now, though, Bon is staying safely on the dock. He does not trust those boats and will not be attempting to set foot on any of them. Other people will have to plunder the

[ Tris gives a twirl of a finger, and the breezes draped about on her clothing give a bit of a spin. There is a reason she isn't quite huffing and puffing more than expected for a round young woman in dresses. ]

She didn't look sad, though. The silence that she was carrying around her at the moment was more in line with some kind of angered determination. Anger, because she had lost some one else important to her and their own numbers were dwindling so much. She was quickly growing tired of it happening, and she was damned determined to keep it from happening again.
Finding the boat was interesting, but it wasn't until Tris mentioned trying to get it to move. Now, Rin was not the sharpest tool in the shed. Far from it, most of the time. But that didn't mean she was completely inept. She wasn't stupid just... ill-educated.
That said, she had played 'fix the crappy barely working VCR when Yuki wasn't home' enough times to figure that if something like this was sitting there, still, with no real sign of being moved along by wind power that it had to be automated in some fashion. Likely with a button to get it started.
Silent, Rin moved to the front and took a tentative step on to the boat after Ippo, slipping on to it once she was sure she wasn't going to fall. She went the opposite direction of the boxer, pushing stuff out of the way until she was closer to the stern of the ship.
Oh. That sure was a giant green button.]
... there's a button.

[ Tris will take even longer getting onto this boat. Wind platforms or no, falling off of a boat that sits on nothing over a great deal of nothing isn't in her interests.
She's inspecting it a little - sure, she might be a merchant and not a plant, wood, or metal mage, but she can probably tell how to make this thing go a little faster with a bit of wind. ]
I can make it go faster, if its needed. A bit of dips at first, but after that, nothing much.

...Or at least prevent anyone besides himself from getting knocked off by any flying creatures. None of the others can exactly jump in mid-air or turn into bats, after all.]
I would not be opposed if this craft cannot move at a decent pace.

For Tris
If Tris directed wind at those fins, she could probably not only make it go faster, but make it deviate from any pre-set path if she wanted to. She could probably move it without being 'on,' even, but it would go a lot faster if it were turned on as well. It's designed to stay in one place if it is turned off, so Tris would be fighting against magical anchors of some sort.]
For Ippo
Of course, since it is attached to the boat, it would have to go with the boat. But if the group needed to sail anywhere, they would have a way of protecting themselves.]
no subject
With that settled, Ippo wandered over to the front of the ship and took a few moments to inspect that cannon that was affixed to the Bow, giving it a few pats with his hand and let out a low whistle.
Jeez...its a shame we can't take this with us, it looks like it could do some serious damage if we run into trouble again.
no subject
I don't think any of us could lift it anyway. At least here it can be moved easily, if we get this boat moving.
[Can it even move without water? Bon is not sure of this.]
Stuff is happening
Who would like to investigate this?]
Re: Stuff is happening
Ears perking, he ran to check it out.]

Silently, she stood and hopped off the boat back on to the dock, breaking in to a sprint to join Sonic.]
See what it is... ?

Pretty soon the target of this search becomes obvious: hidden behind a few crates in the back is a Core, and as soon as it is uncovered the tell-tale glow of the core illuminates the room. But that glow doesn't last long, as the Scumbag opens its mouth wide and swallows the Core whole.
What do?]
no subject
[Sonic knows people are following him, so he turns around to shush them. He scrambles behind something for cover, urging Rin to come join him there]
I can't believe I'm saying this, but we need a plan...
no subject
Umm...I'm not sure what exactly this creature is...but we need to get that core out of it now... Maybe one of us can distract it while another goes and cuts it open from behind?

ESCAPE
However, that won't be easy. See, the monsters heard the scuffle in the warehouse, and they started to appear all over the docks while it happened. Now the place is crawling with monsters, and the footpath back to the Bastion is no longer a safe way to go, not unless everyone wants to fight dozens of squirts and gasfella.
However, there is one open path: from the warehouse to the boat everyone found earlier. The monsters are still hanging back and watching, so if they are quick about it, the people in the warehouse can meet back up with the group that stayed on the boat. From there, though, they will have to decide what to do next, and quickly.
By the way, anyone who stayed behind at the boat would have seen the monsters starting to congregate in the area while the fight was going on, so they can have done some preparations if they wanted to.]

By the time the rest emerge from the warehouse, he will long have readied his sword and shield for use and even summoned the Sword as well.]

[ Tris stands off to what would be a good spot for steering - if this boat actually had anything like a normal sailing ship. That button is within easy reach though.
A twist of a breeze has her words sailing past Alucard and to the people leaving the warehouse. ]
Hurry up and get over to the boat. I can get us moving the moment we're mostly sitting.
no subject
That.. sounds like I'm going to need my healing spells...
[ There had been an awful lot of screaming recently, after all.
Duke stays put at the rail for now, sword ready. If they really need it, the knight can just vault it and run to help. Running now would probably just make the monsters happier. ]

The boat, however, looks promising. Squirts and Gasfella can't fly, so if they can get the boat far enough away from the docks then they'll be alright.]
We're coming! Turn it on already!
Lady resents that comment about best fighters. How about fighters in the warehouse-
[ Tris shouts that back. She'd rather have them climbing on before she starts this thing. ]
