Day 100 :: EVENT - Core [OPEN]
Who: Everyone
Open: Open
When: Day 100
Where: Skyway: The Wharf District
What: Another Core has been located on the Skyway. The PCs must go and retrieve it.
Format: action
Warnings: none
[One hundred days have passed since the Calamity occurred. In those one hundred days, nearly forty survivors have made their way to the Bastion, hoping for a chance at survival.
Of those forty, only twenty-eight remain. Morale drops with each disappearance. The reality of the situation, that this is what humanity has to look forward to, is finally setting in. With a mostly-broken Bastion as their only form of protection, everything is beginning to look bleak.
However, the Cores offer a small bit of hope. With each Core, life springs anew within the Bastion. With each Core, humanity is brought one step back to the way it was before the Calamity. With each Core, the residents of the Bastion can scout out further into new locations, looking for more Cores and survivors. Cores represent life in the world after the Calamity, which is why they are so precious.
And that is also why the survivors within the Bastion aren't the only ones searching for them.
On day one hundred, Nathaniel tells everyone about another Core out on the Skyway. This time it is within the Wharf District, which consists of hundreds of docks and long-abandoned boats. However, unlike previous Core retrievals, there are no monsters around. All that the Wharf District has to offer is shadows and silence.
The PCs should probably make quick work of their searching, because as quiet as the Wharf District is now, it won't remain that way for long. Monsters are drawn to the core, so it is only a matter of time before they show up.]
((For now, characters will be free to search the area. Just specify where your characters are searching if you want them to find anything. Shit will be going down after everyone has a chance to get started/search some boats.))

Stuff is happening
Who would like to investigate this?]

Ears perking, he ran to check it out.]

Silently, she stood and hopped off the boat back on to the dock, breaking in to a sprint to join Sonic.]
See what it is... ?

Pretty soon the target of this search becomes obvious: hidden behind a few crates in the back is a Core, and as soon as it is uncovered the tell-tale glow of the core illuminates the room. But that glow doesn't last long, as the Scumbag opens its mouth wide and swallows the Core whole.
What do?]
no subject
[Sonic knows people are following him, so he turns around to shush them. He scrambles behind something for cover, urging Rin to come join him there]
I can't believe I'm saying this, but we need a plan...
no subject
Umm...I'm not sure what exactly this creature is...but we need to get that core out of it now... Maybe one of us can distract it while another goes and cuts it open from behind?
no subject
Her sword bag shifts against her back as she stares through the cracks in the wood at the Scumbag.]
I could take a hack at it.
no subject
And in her mind she knew better that she should have waited so they could decide who was going to be the distraction and who was going to go in for the kill, but seeing that damned Scumbag eat their fucking Core just made the simmering rage inside turn in to a boil.
Blue flames flashed across her body rapidly as she straightened up from their hiding place, and her sword followed suit after. Before anyone could stop her she leaped over the crates in a single jump, landing on the other side and charging forward with a nearly feral scream.]

[Sonic's curse was cut short, and he quickly moved into action. It was no use stopping Rin now, so it was all he could do to run into the fray. In his own mind, he was the most untouchable one here...
... so he would do his best to get the creature's attention by charging into it like a living bullet]

Bon would like to say that he is surprised by this, but that would be a lie. Of course Rin would run in first, she always ran in first.
Bon settles for standing by the door with his gun ready, so he can provide cover fire when everyone is ready to run away. He won't shoot into the crowd now, he could accidentally hurt someone.]
no subject
Well with Rin running in like a lunatic the least she could do was act as a distraction at the Scrumbag next to Sonic. Before she aims her first attack she downs a small potion, throwing the bottle away as she finishes. Maybe it would help somehow.]

The Scumbag's first response is to turn its attention to Rin. Rin is being very loud, after all, and this Scumbag thinks she is being rude for interrupting its meal. But before it can react, there are suddenly several more people in its face, trying to distract it. Which is working, by the way.
But when the Scumbag catches sight of Night, suddenly it makes an angry noise. Something about Night just pisses it off, and it wants to get rid of Night first.
The Scumbag will be opening its mouth wide and spitting out some strange blue goop at Night. Some will splatter on the floor, leaving a mess that is stickier than fly paper, but Night better move if she doesn't want to get stuck.
By the way, the Core is not visible in the Scumbag's mouth when it opens its mouth. It has already swallowed the Core, and the Core is now in its belly.]

For those that knew her powers, that had seen her powers, they may (amongst all the goop throwing and crate throwing and Sonic ricocheting about) notice that there's something... different about her this time. Ears longer, flames brighter and stronger, the tiny bit of red in her eyes larger than normal.
She was furious, and what control she normally had was crumbling around her faster than she could put her defenses up.
But if anything, as wild as she was, it did make her more effective in this situation. Rather than thinking about her actions she merely reacted. As the goop came hurling out she managed to dodge it, launching herself up high and coming down with the flame-covered blade on the very top of the Scumbag's head.
And she spoke, finally, but her voice was distorted, demonic, an animal-like snarl more than it was human.]
Give it back!

Night moves out of the way quickly enough, some of the splatter hitting the end of her hair. When it finishes barfing at her she lunges for it again and aims another slash at one of it's arms. Trying to avoid the sticky goo was the hard part here, but thankfully she was light on her feet.]
no subject
Tensing his body, Ippo threw himself forward and began to dodge the goo that was flying his way; his skill as Japan's foremost infighting boxer helping him to get right into the Scumbags space and with a hard twist of his body; Ippo threw the whole of his strength into a body uppercut that was flying right for Scumbags gut.

[Seeing Rin fight like that made Bon's stomach twist into a knot. Only once before had he seen Rin lose control like that: back at the camping trip, so many months ago. And even though Rin was usually in control of herself, she was clearly losing that control now.
But nobody else knows how dangerous Rin is right now. Nobody else was there at that campsite back home, they never saw how she completely lost herself to her powers. If Rin falls any further, everyone could end up incinerated before she gets control back.
So Bon makes a split-second decision to interfere. There are plenty of strong fighters there, they can handle the Scumbag. Bon is the only one there with the necessary skills to combat Rin without getting anyone killed, so he's going to focus his attention on that.
First he holsters his gun, and then he runs over to where Rin is, jumping off of a crate to get himself up where she is. Then, without any hesitation, he grabs for her to rip her away from the demon, and hopefully off to the side and out of the way.
He does flinch when his hands plunge into the fire surrounding Rin, but it's from pain, not fear. Even though it hurts, he's not afraid of a little fire.]

Just like that day in the camp site, where she nearly lost everything...
Feeling hands on her in the midst of a wild swing at the Scumbag's back, she let out a frantic wail and a shriek, arms flailing wildly with the sword still in her hand. Luckily for Bon, the sword missed him completely.
She couldn't stop the momentum from rolling, though, and she was ripped away from her target practically howling like a wild animal.
On the floor where they landed she squirmed and struggled to get out of his grasp, wanting nothing more than to fly back in to the fray and start tearing at the creature once more.]
LET ME GO! LET GO!
[Her voice was shrill, still distorted as she screamed and thrashed about. But without a target to hack at her furious anger waned, and bit by bit she became aware that she knew the person holding on to her. Familiar arms. Strong ones.
Her flames died down, not vanishing but calming in intensity. Her voice remained distorted but her cries of 'let go let go' turned in to a begging, desperate tone, lacking the rage she started with.]

Good job guys! Now it's time for a free round of attacks as the Scumbag moves to pick itself up.]

I'm fine, you know? Let's try not to let it see us...
[slips inside properly, darting behind one of the rows of crates to help hide him from view]

Ippo brought his focus back and turned the heel left of his foot sideways; channeling the momentum of his previous uppercut into a sharp turn of his body as he cracked his arm back, his hand turning a full 180 degrees until his palm was facing the ceiling. He remembered this particular punch vividly...the Corkscrew Blow that had delivered him his one and only lost; he doubted that he could hit the Scumbag's heart from this angle...but that didn't mean he couldn't make it skip a beat.
With that familiar green twinkle in his eyes and his fighting spirit burning in his chest, Ippo turned forwards and lashed his fist out straight in front of him as he let his fist turn back around mid-flight; his blow carrying the whole of the momentum he had built up and the added force behind the tension he had gained from his arm rotation. If his shot connected, it would sound like the creature had been hit with a sledgehammer backed by a condensed hurricane.
