What: People in the Bastion are falling sick, and Zahi knows where a cure can be found. Unfortunately, it won't be easy to get to.

[On Day 201, after several people have fallen ill, another meeting is called. This time, however, it is not Nathaniel who has called for everyone. It's Zahi.]

Okay, I know everyone's been worried about the people in the hospital, and it looks like our fears weren't unfounded: some of the people who went on that last trip, they caught something.

I've been watching the symptoms, and I think I know what this is. A long time ago, back before Zayna was born, there was a terrible illness that claimed the lives of many Ura. Everyone who fell sick here, they had the same symptoms as those who caught the disease before.

On the plus side, this means that it can be cured. I know of a clinic, way out in the Terminals, where there should be some medicine stocked. Not only can we cure the sick, but we can give another kind of medicine to those who aren't sick yet, so they won't catch it at all.

The downside is that it's gonna take a while to get there. It'll be at least two days there, and possibly more to track down exactly where the clinic is, and then the same amount of time back. We're looking at a four-day minimum, which means we won't be much help to those who are sick right now. They'll either be dead or getting better by the time we get back.

Then there's the fact that it's really dangerous out there. Zayna and I were out on the Terminals before we came here, and let's just say that there's a reason we went looking for somewhere safer to stay.

If you'd rather stay here, I can understand that. The Bastion is an amazing place, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone here managed to save everyone. But I'm not a fan of putting all my eggs in one basket, so I figured it's worth a shot to go and try to get some of the medicine.

He chose to do that.

[Crying isn't his expertise. Coughing isn't exactly either, but he has a slightly more clear cut idea of what to do for that. While he isn't particularly sure if it will listen, Saix gives an order to the Samurai.]

Get a glass of water.

[The Samurai just 'looks' at Saix for a long moment. If it had eyes to narrow, that might be happening. But ultimately it does leave the room to do as instructed, because that is its master lying there coughing. Heck if it knows what to do about the crying either.

And Roxas is having a hard time saying anything between the coughing and the crying, so he just won't. Good luck, Saix.]

[Well fuck you, Samurai, guess who has eyes and who doesn't in this relationship?]

[While the Samurai goes to do that, Saix takes a step forward to go help Roxas. That just makes his head swim, however, and he takes a moment to hiss in a breath before stubbornly moving forward. His hand goes forward to tug Roxas away from the pillow.]

You need to breathe, not smother yourself.

[He's not really protesting his need to breathe, there are just all sorts of not good things happening for him right now and pillows are nicer than Saix. He pushes ineffectually at the other Nobody, but he's probably succeeding more at coughing on him.]

[He's not sicker than you, Roxas, don't test him.]

He threw his life away for you once and this is how you're going to act?

What--?

[Roxas isn't sure what that's supposed to mean but now he's a little angry.

The Samurai returns, and it is not sick at all so excuse you Saix but it has some real shoving power. Move out of the way so it can hand Roxas that glass of water.]

[Saix narrowing his eyes is very much a clear gesture, but he does move out of the way to go lean against a wall again. Certainly not because it's easier than just plain standing.]

...If you die here from not letting yourself be taken care of, then you're certainly never going to see him again.

If you cry, I- [don't care] -won't judge.

[For once.]

[Roxas detaches himself enough from the pillow to drink, which at least helps with the coughing.]

I'm not gonna- ...

[Die? The response began automatically, but can he really say that for sure? He's never been sick before, but everyone's talking like this is a really bad sickness. People can die from it.

What if he does die?]

...Just drink your water.

There's a group that's hoping to get some sort of cure.

Didn't they say- they might not be back in time?

They have various methods. They're not that incompetent, I should think.

Are you actually... being optimistic?

...Do you not want me to be?

[A short bout of coughs and he takes another drink of water.]

I just... can't, right now. [But someone should be?]

I'm working on that. Besides, I had my Berserker listen in on things. Our chances aren't as good as they could be, but they're still decent, I suppose.

[There, does that make you feel better, Roxas?]

...Just focus on not dying before they get back. That's all that's required of you right now.

[Not really, but it does sound more like Saix.

He grips the water glass a little tighter.]

I don't wanna go. Not again.

Go where?

I heard... when Nobodies die, we go back to our Others.

...That would make things a great deal simpler.

Just get better and you won't have to worry about it.

...yeah. I guess.

[Definitely sounds like he's going to keep worrying about it.]

...Want me to get you something? [Or make a Dusk get you something, same thing.]

[Roxas shakes his head. He has his water and his pillow and the blanket that doesn't seem to be keeping him quite warm enough. He doesn't want to eat.

More than anything, he's just scared, and lonely. He doesn't know where his friends are and if they're okay, or what's going to happen to him, if they might come back to find him gone. And he's thinking about Sora again, and whether he's even alive when his world definitely isn't, so would Roxas even have anywhere to go back to if he died? Would that be better or worse?]

...can you just- stay a while?

[Is it really pathetic that he's asking Saix of all people?]

[It's a little pathetic. But then again- it's not like they really have anyone else.]

The only other person I really know probably doesn't want to see me, lest I get her infected. I don't have anywhere else to be.

[Since it seems like he's going to be here a while, Saix lets himself slide down to the floor so that he can sit down. Anything else... feels like too much effort. At least he hasn't started coughing, yet.]

...Do you need me to talk?

I dunno.

[Probably, because it'll just leave Roxas with his thoughts otherwise. It's really sad that whatever comes out of Saix's mouth is likely to be better than that right now.

But it's at this point that he finally notices...]

Yes.

No wonder it's called a plague. Give it an inch and it takes a dozen people.

[Well, probably possibly not that many... yet. But considering the Bastion's limited population, even one can be too many.]
