[So hey. There's this girl. She's been in this place for a while, helped out with a lot of things, and today she got to help do something awesome! Cores are important to the Bastion after all, so that's a good thing.

Except she kind of... lit herself on fire and a lot of people saw it.

Anyone want to talk to her about that?

In all seriousness, Rin can be found after all that hubbub taking a break near the apartments, outside because she really doesn't want to be in her room right now. She's nursing a bit of a wound on her thigh from sliding on her legs under the bird earlier, but whatever road rash she got from doing so is starting to fade finally. Her sword is lying next to her in the grass, and she's just on her back, watching the odd sky above the Bastion quietly.

Mostly because her ears are still kind of ringing from what Crona did.

Ringing ears won't stop her from holding a conversation, though, if anyone cares to bother her, and she's in a decent mood given their accomplishments.]

Mm. I have found that sense of smell varies between types of demon, so perhaps that is why. I cannot say for certain however, for however much my father has been referred to as such, vampires and demons are not one in the same.

[Although he knows that someone who has received so much ridicule for her own heritage is unlikely to take this revelation particularly poorly, a part of Alucard still cynically expects Rin to scream or drive him away.]

[That garners an actual expression out of him. It's not much, but his eyebrows knit together slightly in disbelief. The terminology she had used is foreign to him, but the connotation seems to be... positive? His parents aside, none that he held any respect for the opinion of had ever honestly considered that half of his heritage as a truly positive trait. Beneficial in battle, yes. In and of itself? No God fearing person would believe that it were more blessing than misfortune.

...Rin's question is, however, a valid one.]

[Admittedly she's a little relieved he IS different though, just because she really wouldn't know how to help keep him fed like everyone else.]

[All his education is homeschooling in the 1400's, Rin. He can't be expected to understand exactly how power inheritance works with the kids resulting from inter-species romances when you quite possibly know more about genetics than he does.]

[Yup. For once Rin is knowledgeable in something!]

[And for the first time, he is able to admit to this fact with the knowledge that not only is he not being judged for this, but that he is speaking to someone who truly understands what it is to be half human. It's... a feeling he can't quite describe.]

[It's... something, alright. Rin knew other half demons existed, but her time in the cram school had only introduced her to other human exorcists.]

...My mother raised me in a human village until her death when I was still quite young. From then I was raised by my father until the grief finally destroyed him...

[It's true enough; his father had been almost kind before his mother had been killed, taking with her any care he might have held for humanity. He does not care to speak of his past in detail, however. Perhaps he never will if he's never pressed about it.]

[Rin shifted a bit, not really wanting to talk about her own past either. But they were on the subject, and it was difficult to not think about what happened.]

The old man died... tryin' to protect me from Satan. So... I kinda know how you feel.

[Now that catches his attention.]

...Satan himself killed your father? I had thought neither he nor God could directly affect the world...

[Admittedly, he had considered that perhaps neither truly existed, or had perhaps lost interest in the affairs of the world.]

Satan is my real father. Fujimoto raised me and kept me and my twin protected from him as long as he could, but Satan finally possessed the old man the night my powers broke through the seal on the sword, and it killed him in the end.

Demons possess humans and other livin' objects in Assiah. They can't truly cross over from Gehenna, no, unless they're half like me and were already born in Assiah. But anythin' Satan possesses just burns up and dies.

And I thought that having Dracula as a father was unfortunate... My sincerest apologies.

[He can't help the slight wince at the mention of burning to death; the memory of his mother's screams would likely haunt him for the rest of eternity.]

...My deepest sympathies.

... it happened. And it doesn't matter here anyway.

[Which is her way of ignoring that she's still grieving.]

[This said to a man who slept for 300 years instead of dealing with grief over helping kill his father since neither dealt with grieving for his mother in particularly healthy manners. And now that not even the final resting places of either exist? It's not... something he really knows how to deal with. Going through with his plan to sleep for eternity is out of the question; at least for now, the survivors need as many helping hands as possible. He would be selfish to rob them of that. Nevertheless, he feels... lost.]

... I'm... gonna go to my room for a while, actually. But... thank you for talking to me.
