[So. Remember how there are chunks of the Skyway that sort of just fly around, not really connected to any of the paths?

Well, on one of those chunks is an old red telephone booth. Said chunk is maybe ten or so feet away from one of the Skyway paths, and the phone inside happens to be ringing.

[Just outside the Bastion? Doesn't seem too dangerous! Ibuki will brave the short distance out to pick up the phone!]

Hello, hello?! This is Ibuki Mioda! Who's calling?

[The voice on the other end hesitates for a moment before speaking up.]

....hello?

Yes! Hello!

Who's this?

[he spotted the phone, sure, but he thought it was Skyway detritus and not… actually connected to anything. He watches it ring for a few moments… before whistling Tama-chan over and heading to pick up the receiver, holding the door open so the anklegator can come along at at least… rest her head on his foot, even if the rest of her body has to stay outside.]

…yes?

[He's not exactly sure what else to say in this situation so he just… waits to see if anyone on the other end decides to talk]

[It's not actually connected to anything, all of the phone lines that go to the booth have snapped off long ago. And yet here it is still ringing.

There is a long pause on the other end before a voice speaks up.]

...Uh, yes, hello? Is someone there?

[individuates]

[twists around in the confined space as if to try to find the caller. As if he might be able to see them] Yes, this is Kaoru. Who's… [no, screw that, there are better questions to ask here] How are you calling?

[Ippo was feeling a lot better today. He'd had a talk with Yukio and with his help, he'd managed to get back to a stable sleeping schedule. With his energy back and his face not looking like he'd crawled out of a coffin, he'd decided to take to the Skyway just to get out and about. It seemed, however, that fate wasn't about to let things be quite that simple.

Halfway into his walk, he heard a noise...a rather familiar noise, the sound of a ringing telephone. He looked around, thinking he might be seeing things...but of all things, a bright red booth floated on by on a piece of floating land and from it, a ringing could be heard. Gripped by intense curiosity and with it being within jumping distance, Ippo made a few careful jumps and landed on the chunk, his eyebrow quirked as he made his way over to the phone.

His hand hovered in front of it...hesitating for a moment before he took hold of it and brought the receiver up to his ear.]

Um...hello?

[bastionpc]

[For a third time, the voice on the other end pauses. But this pause is much shorter than the other two, and the voice is less surprised and more curious.]

Yes, er, hi.

[A short pause.]

You don't sound like the person I'm looking for either.

Sorry...

[The apology came out quick, almost instinctive, but Ippo quickly caught himself and shook off his old habits for the sake of figuring this whole thing out.]

May I ask who's calling? There's a chance I might know who you're looking for.

[We're just going to push off the fact that this should be impossible as the phone wasn't connected to anything, he'd seen stranger things.]

[Aoi's just gonna take a moment to stare at the phone and remember what a ringing phone sounds like. Wow, it's been so long since she's seen a phone, let alone heard o—oh wait she has to answer that before it stops; she's gonna lunge for it.]

Hello! Um, hello?

[Another new person. But that's okay, this guy is getting used to the wrong person answering the phone.]

Er, I dialed the wrong number again, didn't I?

[ Ringing phone on the Skyway? Shing's seen stranger.

It takes him much longer to actually figure out how to answer the thing, though, and finally respond. ]

Hi, yes? I might be calling the wrong line again, you don't sound familiar.

[Erek isn't venturing too far from the Bastion today. He did say he'd take company his first few times out on the Skyway, and he didn't seek out Tobias to ask for a scout. He doesn't need to go far to find something odd, apparently, as he sees Paarthurnax eying a phone booth.

Well, Erek told Tobias he wanted to meet the dragon. Now seems as good a time as any.]

I think someone is calling for you. Would you like me to answer it?

[And on a slightly more normal scale, there is an Ura man staring at the phone with a kind of resignation. You know what? He's not even going to question it anymore.]

[Murmuring a brief prayer to Yudrig under his breath- the realm of messages reaching through is the Morning Stallion's domain- he steps into the booth and picks up the phone.]

Hello, this is Zulf of the Tazal Terminals and resident of the Bastion. May I ask who's calling?

[It might be weird as fuck, but he's not going to be impolite here.]

[That gets a real pause from the person on the other end.]

...you're from the terminals? Really?

[So it's far from the strangest thing ever to happen, but Anya is fairly certain phone booths aren't wireless and that makes her suspicious. She doesn't answer with "hello" or "who is this?" but:]

I've seen the horror films and if you're going to do heavy breathing or say you're watching me I'm going to hang up and find you and stab you.

[Nope, no creepies, just a kid on the phone sounding vaguely worried.]

[He reaches in and picks up the phone.]

... Hello?

[So Rob went back out on the Skyway again. Thanks to Zuko he did slightly better than before, but he's still sore and covered in bruises and it's only the absurdity of a ringing telephone floating through the Skyway that gets him to stop and answer it. He hates using telephones, but he doesn't let that show in his voice as he speaks.]

[ A short walk out on the skyway. The knight was better, but taking things slow still seemed like the best idea.

Definitely a short walk. What the hell is that thing? And why is it ringing. ]

[While telephone booths (or telephones in general) aren't exactly a thing that had been invented in Ghaleon's world, intercom systems were not unheard of. Mostly, Ghaleon is just curious as to who would be on the other end since they're also mostly used in military vessels.]
