[Day 230] We're still not dead! Time to get drunk until we are

Who: Georges, you, and so much alcohol
Open: Open
When: Day 230, from noon til night
Where: Inside and outside the Distillery
What: In which planning is attempted, an obnoxious amount of booze is shoved at everyone, and Georges needs help with some things
Format: Pick your poison
Warnings: Drunk shenanigans at some point, likely

So, in the morning, Georges makes sure to stop anyone before they can go out onto the Skyway or get a bite to eat, or basically attempt to carry on with their lives like normal. With the most recent near death experience, he seems to be aiming to be more insistently friendly, apparently.

"Hey there! I got everyone together for some drinks, well, last time since we all needed one after that and I figured why not do it again? Come over to the Distillery later today, and I'll have some things whipped up! Oh- and by the way. That Ura fella, Zulf, he wanted folks to meet up and try and figure a few things out, get a bit more organization 'round here I suppose. If you could pass this around, that'd be great!"

And, sure enough, at around noon-ish Georges has once again set up some things. There are tables just outside the distillery, the largest he could manage (which is just a couple pressed up against one another) done up specifically for anyone who wants to sit around and be responsible.

For those who don't care about or don't trust themselves with responsibility, there's a couple smaller tables scattered about both inside and outside. As usual, Georges is behind the bar with a row of bottles on display. Ask him about them, chat with one another, or just focus on getting utterly and completely smashed, do as you like.

Maybe if you're chatty enough, you might even get roped into something.

[There's Zulf, although he is clearly abstaining from any liquor mostly on the basis that Cael booze is fucking terrifying. There's a rather large amount of paper all packed up in one bag sitting besides his chair, and he takes one roll out. When it's spread out properly, it should clearly show that it's a map.]

While you've all been away, I've been working on making maps to be handed out. I've tried to include noticeable and stable landmarks. It's not truly finished, but it should be good enough to make it to all the areas that have been explored so far.

If anyone can help me with some more details, I'd much appreciate it. Even just looking over it to confirm that it's correct.

Also, what condition was the mine in? I didn't want to bother anyone right as you all came back.

[Anya would be so proud of him, he actually has a glass of Bull Brandy that he can drink without keeling over like a delicate little fainting goat.]

[But Saix cuts right to the point.]

I want to start up a training group for both newcomers and those who are only just now going onto the Skyway after arriving at the Bastion. It would be good for people who have been here for a while as well.

There's still too many people going out on their own when we know that even skilled fighters can be taken down out there, and not all of them know what they're doing. If we get some skilled individuals to teach them basic first aid, survival skills, combat, and how to just plain run away when no other options present themselves, then that's less time tending to foolish injuries at best or deaths at worst.

I don't plan on doing this all on my own, however.

[He was already the secretary with too much on his plate with the Organization, like hell he's doing that again]

[Good thing this is outside. While Paarthurnax can't seat at the table proper, on account of being a giant motherfucking dragon, he can settle down not far off in good hearing range of the discussions taking place.]

The Bastion has run well... Yet it grows ever larger. We are not as organized as we should be in many aspects.

I have spoken with some here and the topic of leaders has arisen. What thoughts do you all have on that?

Hey, if you can get some people to be willing to take some basic common sense classes, be my guest. I tried to knock down that silo on my own a while back and got knocked on my ass for the trouble.

[Yep, Colin's still bitter that so few people seemed interested in getting information that could save their lives...]

[At some point in the day, Zulf takes a break from the organization table and sits off at another smaller one just for himself. He's taken out his pipe, the smoke heavy and twining about his head. He's obviously been overworking himself again, but he's still not as bad as he was during the Plague.]

[Anyone passing by will get a polite nod of his head and an equally polite-]

That was close, wasn't it?

If I can get people with skills that compliment my own to act as teachers, then I'll just knock back harder until they get it through their heads or I kill them.

[...Basically what he's saying is that he needs someone with social skills here.]
freedom_engineer: (At Work)

[personal profile] freedom_engineer 2014-09-27 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[You want social skills? Well, that knocks Colin out of the running...]

Corsican military doctrine mandates extensive training and drilling to be ready for any situation you may find yourself thrown into. I'm holding together so well because my ass has probably spent a century learning what to do when anything goes wrong.

I can pass on lesson plans, but let's face it, most people here don't care to listen to me.
daughterofursa: (unimpressed)

[personal profile] daughterofursa 2014-09-27 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It might be the attitude. I don't think "common sense" is something you can beat into someone.

[It's kind of insulting, guys.]

I've been training a couple people myself, but more formal lessons are a good idea. I'm not saying we should force anyone, but knowing what their options are, who's willing to teach, might help some of the people who've been reluctant before now.

[Jay shudders.]

I was almost buried alive searching for a core, darling! Close doesn't even begin to describe it.

We can help fix them. [Crona spends an inordinate amount of time out on the Skyway, and the meister's memory is better than most. So the meister looks at the map, studying the landmarks Zulf has marked out.

Ragnarok is going to grab himself a shot glass and some of that booze and completely ignore the map.
]
blackblooded: (that way)

[personal profile] blackblooded 2014-09-27 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
We can help with swordfighting. [But Crona has some opinions about comments other people have made.]

I don't think Colin could teach a common sense class.
daughterofursa: (if it comes to it)

[personal profile] daughterofursa 2014-09-27 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's something everyone should have some choice in. Some of us were leaders where we came from, but it's not a position anyone can claim when we're all coming from different nations.

We should be able to choose someone we all feel we can depend on.

[It might sound like common sense to some people, but they don't have elections where Zuko comes from so this choice thing is kind of a novel idea to her.]
blackblooded: (that one talking icon)

[personal profile] blackblooded 2014-09-27 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
There isn't anyone who could be a leader except you. [Paar is the only adult Crona really respects and thinks could be a leader.]

Colin will probably volunteer but he shouldn't be one. [Ragnarok has been taking advantage of the existence of shot glasses and booze, and as a result Crona's a little bit more vocal and less tactful than usual.]
gianthobo: (for my head on a silver plate)

[personal profile] gianthobo 2014-09-27 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[AZ is seated nearby, but he stirs at the mention of leaders. The idea is something he's spoken to Hilda about recently, but he feels he needs to add his voice to the pile as someone with experience.]

Not a single leader. As much as people in the Bastion have proven to be... kind... there's still too much risk and responsibility both in giving a single person all of the power.
fuckthemancers: (feastings) (I really just want to stuff him in my)

[personal profile] fuckthemancers 2014-09-27 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Zulf makes an appropriately soft and sympathetic noise.]

How dreadful. The underground is like that. If you ever go back, I could go with you. My people have lived underground for centuries now- we know our way around Pyth's domain.
fuckthemancers: (rockafiller) (The other day I was really high)

[personal profile] fuckthemancers 2014-09-27 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I know you were out there for quite some time until just recently, weren't you? I'm sure you're familiar quite a few areas by now.

[Not to mention Crona is one of those who's been here the longest, so far as Zulf has been able to tell. He moves a bit out of the way so that the meister has a better view and does his best to ignore Ragnarok.]

[The map is decent enough and it certainly covers most of the known areas. The detail seems to vary from area to area, however, from a clear and explained path from the Bastion to the Mancer Observatory, and then with Jawson's Bog being one of those "fuck no not touching it" areas of mystery.]

[The most detailed would likely be the immediate areas within a day's walk of the Bastion and, peculiarly enough, Burstone Quarry although any maps picked up from the area are considerably better off. The least? Jawson's Bog, of course, along with the Rippling Walls and considerable chunks of random pieces of Skyway that connect everything together.]
amphibian: (you know that you'll feel better and)

[personal profile] amphibian 2014-09-27 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! A hundred percent agreed! [She's glad someone else brought up Colin because she didn't wanna be that guy.]

...Well, actually...I dunno, having more than one person in charge might not be a bad idea...
croceamors: (dreamdropdistance) (look back > Revolve around)

[personal profile] croceamors 2014-09-27 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Colin, thank you for being the more unpopular guy here. He is very thankful to not be that guy.]

So it seems that we're set for combat skills... And Colin, it sounds as though you could teach presumably anything for wilderness survival.

Who here actually knows basic first aid?

[Crona gets one of Paar's signature hair ruffling exhales for their trouble.]

That is not my decision to make.

And geh, it would be wise. It is easy to lose those here to the Skyway. Sharing the burden would ensure things did not fall apart should one leader disappear or perish.
wayofvoice: (Wuld Nah Kest + We may strive with)

[personal profile] wayofvoice 2014-09-27 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. [He did mention 'leaders', plural, after all.] So a council of sorts would be better, do you believe?
amourtician: (came true)

[personal profile] amourtician 2014-09-27 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jay smiles and puts a hand over his heart. He bows, shallowly, to Zulf.]

I'd love that, darling!

Maybe, ah. Maybe you could show me around some of the more interesting tunnels, some day. Just the two of us.
