[Day 225] [EVENT] A sinking feeling

[Early in the morning on Day 225, most people are probably asleep. For the couple of stragglers who may still be awake so late, though, they may notice something strange. At 2:31 am, any lights that are on start to hum, and flicker in and out of dimness.

At 2:32 am, every light in the Bastion (excluding the emergency lights) shuts off entirely.

At 2:33 am, a horrible grinding noise can be heard throughout the Bastion, seemingly coming from everywhere at once. This sound continues on for several minutes, throughout everything else that begins to happen.

At 2:34 am, for anyone outside Nathaniel can be seen running from the Apartments towards the Monument as if his life depended on it.

At 2:35 am, ever so slowly, sections of the Bastion begin to sink.

It's always been conditional, just never to this degree.

[It's usually been more minor, along the lines of "Work for your food and a place to stay". A regular line of thought, really. And...]

I wonder if this has something to do with the Cores. They are what powers the place.

Colin has been worried about matters such as these. A plan is indeed needed...

Our troubles lie in getting everyone to attend such a meeting, and in making sure that any newcomers to our ranks are informed of it.

[Zuko is glad to see the few kids in the Bastion have made it out here safely, but...]

[Shouldn't she be more in the middle of the camp so they can protect her?]

We could get most people to come, if you called for the meeting.

The problem is keeping everyone up-to-date. This is part of what I meant about us being disorganized. There are plenty of things only a handful of people know about. It shouldn't be like that.

Such things would be easier if there was a written language we all knew..

[He pauses, nudging his head back so that a tiny dragonling doesn't go tumbling down his face.]

Perhaps we could have a thing constructed... Colin's world has such devices which record images as paper records words.

I was thinking about how he has things that record voices. Not everyone here can see, and the translation still works.

I just don't know if we could get people to go and listen to it all the time.

Perhaps we should have another place that is neither the Bastion or the Observatory to store emergency supplies.

I don't know how many of us will be getting back to sleep. I think we're all on edge.

[Of course, that probably means plenty of people awake to look out for this girl, even if she is on the edge of camp.]

Thanks. I'd do it but I'm kind of deaf and blind in human morph, this is too big, and hawk morph doesn't have thumbs.

It wouldn't hurt. How far is the Observatory anyway?

It is a few days walk, if one is diligent. There is still much work to be done there...

We have the barge and the ostrich horses, so no one should have to walk who can't handle the distance. But that's a few days we'll have to protect them...

Yes. I will do my best to frighten any beast away from our group should we have to make the journey immediately. There are words in the Thu'um which will do adequately.

[She's gotten so comfortable with Paarthurnax that she forgets he can be really intimidating.]

[That possibly says a lot about Paarthurnax, really.]

These are all plans we must revisit when things are more certain. For now, I shall keep watch. Are you much tired? You may find shelter under my wings, if so.

[And with that she's taking off again in the direction of the lake.]

It stays up, but is very lopsided. Do I need another stick?

[ She's building it over her wagon, which has a few rescued rocks around the wheels. ]

[She's about to say she's not tired, and she can stay up to keep watch, too. But she is tired, and it doesn't make sense for everyone to stay up. Then they'll all be worn out, and that's not helping anyone.

A warrior needs her rest, right?]

I'm going to check on a few people, and find Toph again. Then I'll get some rest.

Yeah, I think that would hold it up better.

[She looks around for a good stick. Zahi cleared most of them from the camp ground, but they are on the outskirts. Plenty of the cleared sticks to be found not too far away.]

Cores? Are they like larger versions of shards?

[This is the first she's hearing of them, but her mind does sort of flash back to her life before the Bastion. Hopefully the problems that arose from the crystals are not the sort of things that are going to happen here.]
