[Day 225] [EVENT] A sinking feeling

[Early in the morning on Day 225, most people are probably asleep. For the couple of stragglers who may still be awake so late, though, they may notice something strange. At 2:31 am, any lights that are on start to hum, and flicker in and out of dimness.

At 2:32 am, every light in the Bastion (excluding the emergency lights) shuts off entirely.

At 2:33 am, a horrible grinding noise can be heard throughout the Bastion, seemingly coming from everywhere at once. This sound continues on for several minutes, throughout everything else that begins to happen.

At 2:34 am, for anyone outside Nathaniel can be seen running from the Apartments towards the Monument as if his life depended on it.

At 2:35 am, ever so slowly, sections of the Bastion begin to sink.

[Roxas hurries up to help Ryu with the button-pressing. That's something he can do, does one of them control the floating? Shouldn't that one be labeled or something?]

What- would cause a power surge?

[And what does that mean? His voice goes quieter mid-question as he realizes Nathaniel might need to concentrate, and he probably doesn't even have an answer.]

[Man, that just makes things seem about fifty times more serious. Not that the Bastion going down isn't already serious, but you know.

Yukio hesitates where he is for a moment more, locking that new knowledge away before nodding again. There's no time to waste.]

[And he takes off sprinting for the nearest wanderer he can see in the dark.]

[She can't argue with that logic. If they're lucky the place Colin suggested for a fall back area will be usable enough until something can be done a out this.

She nods, stumbling to follow with him, trying to avoid the sinking parts of the Bastion even as her steps are awkward and uncertain with the continued ringing in her ears.]

[They're nearing the Skyway Entrance when someone suddenly ducks underneath one of Rin's arms, wrapping it slightly awkwardly around their shoulders (because height differences, harhar) and helping to steady her steps.

Bon might've been able to hear Yukio's call as he and Oshawott ran up behind them, but Rin probably couldn't. Not until he's already very much in her personal space.]

C'mon, almost there!

[He's not wondering why it is Rin can't seem to walk straight just yet. Getting to the Skyway is first priority.]

[Zoura was the last of the young Pokemon to be moved to Paar, but as soon as N started she struggled, making plaintive, pleading noises with him.

No! I don't want to go, I wanna stay with Daddy!]

Zoura, please, it's safer for you to go with him.

[And with that, Ippo was off like a bolt of lightning in the night back towards the apartment buildings. Of all the emergencies, he'd never thought this would be one of them.]

[Oh there you are Yukio, so good to see you.

Bon just nods to Yukio and accepts the help, so they can both work together at getting Rin out onto the Skyway while the two pokemon trail behind them.

Once they pass the entrance and are far enough away from the Bastion that the ground is stable, Bon will finally stop hurrying and start looking around for answers.]

Okumura-Sensei, do you have any idea what's going on?

[Not with the way her ears are ringing, no. Which does lead to her being a bit startled when Yukio gets next to her. Thankfully it's to help and not for any other reason, and it's help she'll gladly accept. This is probably the worst time ever to have balance issues thanks to a damaged inner ear.

Kintaro doesn't bother to greet Oshawott outside of a nod. He's far too worried about his trainer to provide more than that.]

[Raile said, thinking back for some kind of solution. Eventually he reached to his back and pulled out his city crest, holding it towards Nathanial.]

I dunno a thing 'bout machines, but Rucks always told me this thing had a bit 'o t'Bastion's power in it. Maybe it'll help balance things out?

[It wasn't much of an idea, but it was something at the very least.]

[Oshawott can be quite the derp sometimes, but he's got enough sense about him to take whatever it is that's happening very seriously, returning the nod quickly and keeping close to Yukio's heels.

Yuki looks out over the more solid chunks of rock they've landed on, already on the lookout for all the dangers that come standard with the Skyway.]

I don't know, but I saw Nathaniel-san running toward the Monument. With the way the lights went...

Can the Monument run out of power?

[Ryu keeps hitting as many buttons and switches as he can reach with clawed fingers, and keeps one of his fists raised with flame so that they can see. This is a problem, they need to move people. He glances over his shoulder and spots people evacuating. Good. They're going to need it.]

You guys would have a better idea than I would.

[AZ is moving as fast as he can, getting the baby Pokemon rounded up. He has a few of them clinging to his shoulders and his arms, and his own are in their Pokeballs - except for Golurk, who is storming ahead to herd people towards the Skyway.]

[He spots Anna trying to make a kit, and reaches to pick her up.]

We don't have time, Anna. You have to get out of here.

[There's another dragon in the Bastion, landing near the apartments and yelling out to everyone around that can hear over the noise.]

Hey! Give a shout if you need help! I'll carry you!

[That's... Paarthurnax's voice, but not his tone or vocabulary.]

It's Tobias! No questions now, just get on and hang on!

[Tobais would feel a small pat on his front right dragon leg as Ippo darted past him into the apartment building proper and began to shout and bang on doors as he made his way up the floors. If you weren't awake before...well Ippo wasn't going to let anyone sleep through this.]

HEY, IF ANYONE'S LEFT GET DOWN TO THE GROUND FLOOR, TOBIAS WILL GET YOU TO SAFETY BUT WE ALL HAVE TO MOVE RIGHT NOW!

[ if you're all surprised that the moment the coat goes over her head, Skyla immediately starts squirming and swearing in protest then you clearly haven't been here very long.

Of course, she doesn't get long to protest before she finds herself pchoo'd through the portal and of course she lands flat on her face on the other side.

Scrabbling to her feet, she whirls around, furious. ]

What the hell is--

[ this is the Skyway. ]

[Toph manages, through sheer stubborn overwhelming willpower, to sleep through the start of the grinding noise. She's slept in a lot of noisy places and she's learned to differentiate between obvious threats and just weird shit. The grinding noise is awful, but nobody's approaching, so she snores on.

The snoring stops abruptly as she feels the earth sink. The earth’s not supposed to do that! She leaps out of bed, fighting a wave of dizziness, and stumbles to the door.]

What the badgermole is going on?!

[ She has to think on that. ]

Do you think the distillery will have any... non perishable foods? Could we grab some of those while we get the pot?

[ Then she will go to the barge. They might need food on the skyway! ]

But we don't have an emergency kit.

[ She doesn't stop trying to make the kit, which makes her easy enough for AZ to catch and lift. ]

What if it gets cold on the skyway? Or we need to eat and can't cook?

[ Mikoto, however, has spotted a ride, and starts trying to climb up AZ's leg. ]

[Toph, that hair is almost as startling as everything else that's going on. Zuko stumbles over her words.]

I- I don't know! You can't feel it?

You can use my jacket. And we'll figure something out. There's still places we can scavenge things from.

[Mikoto gets picked up and deposited on his head.]

... You sure we don't have time to grab a pot from the distillery on the way?

[ It would make everything easier if they have to stay on the skyway for long. ]

Not in mood... [ Honestly, Colin, Duke isn't likely to be anything but mostly dressed. ]

Monsters figure out how to get in here or something?

... Fine. But that's about it.

... Okay.

[ Not going to stop her from bundling her half-freed blanket into her arms though. And time to start off toward the distillery! ]

[And in the distance, still making those worrying noises, is the Bastion. It's still sinking, still looking as though it will fall apart.]

[Off in the distance, she can probably see Saix sprinting his own way across, leaping across gaps in the earth with his body relying on a very distant memory for how this should go. Radiant Garden, Vatheon, now this- he's experienced world shattering disasters before. This isn't anything new.]

[Very suddenly, another portal will open up besides Skyla. The very odd sight of a Berserker Nobody appears there, standing very still with a trio of Dusks clinging to its broad shoulders... and a golden retriever in its arms. The dog in question is whining from how harsh the noises are to its sensitive ears.]
