[Day 184] Actually we DO know how those eggs got there... [OPEN]
Who: The New Daycare Couple N, Hilda, Anna, a whole lot of Pokemon and Pokemon Eggs, and YOU
Open: Open!
When: Day 184
Where: The new Pokemon Daycare Center in the Bastion
What: There's a new house in the Bastion. People are moving in to it, and Pokemon are playing in the yard.
Format: action
Warnings: Lethal amounts of adorable
[It took a lot of shards, and a lot of work, but it was worth all of that in the end. With the eggs they'd found at the broken Daycare Center getting so close to hatching, and their Pokemon numbers growing, staying in the apartments was just not going to continue to be a viable option. So the two trainers put their heads together, and after a lot of discussion, planning, counting shards and re-planning they had managed to come up with an entirely new Daycare Center of their own, complete with a yard and living area on the second floor.
And there it was, a new house standing on a new section of land in a slightly expanded Bastion, and after some shuffling around of personal belongings out of the tower apartments, N, Hilda, Anna, and all their Pokemon and eggs were successfully relocated to this new location.
So if anyone is making their way around the south quadrant of the Bastion today, this new house with its strange creatures playing happily in the yard is likely to catch your attention.
Come see what it's all about?]

[She smiles brighter at that, tail wagging a little.]
So... what's it like? Livin' with Pokemon? I was talkin' to Hilda and I said they reminded me of demon familiars, but I know it ain't the same.

Pokemon and humans have lived together for a long time. They help with all sorts of aspects of life, from helping plant crops to helping someone fall asleep. The strongest battlers in each region form a loose government, but there are some people who focus on breeding Pokemon, or winning talent competitions with them. Some people study them.
There are some people who worship certain Pokemon, usually one of those that fall into the category of "legendary". Others think that they're just powerful Pokemon that can be captured like any others, though how possible that is differs from Pokemon to Pokemon. I've encountered a few of them, myself - and I saw one captured recently, though he was the sort of trainer who I think was worthy of it.
There's... a lot to be said about Pokemon. They're more than simple pets. They're intelligent companions, with thoughts, language, and feelings. They teach us many things, and even the smallest of Pokemon can be more powerful than you might expect. I've seen trainers that respect their Pokemon, and trainers who use them for less moral gains. Some people think of them just as tools, but... they're so more than that.

Some of it sounded a little how certain demons were treated in her world, like the ones that were worshiped and treated as gods, deities or guardian spirits, but the rest...
It was hard to imagine a world like that, given that demons in her world were given rather unfair treatment based on the actions of most of their race.]
Familiars... well, they're demons. I'm part demon, but familiars are demons that are summoned to work for humans. Some demons kinda get treated like that - the ones that are connected to shrines and stuff, they're considered guardians or deities that people worship or bring offerings to, but most of 'em...
... let's just say demons would be lucky to have humans be that willin' to live and work along side them.
[She fidgets, then adds quietly:]
There's a good reason for that, though.

Demons are just more violent normally. But they're not all bad. Hell, some of 'em are just mischievous.

[She frows, staring at her hands.]
Maybe the problem is on both sides? Or maybe I'm just too dumb to put it all in to words, what was goin' on in our world. All I knew when I got started as an exorcist was that a certain demon killed the man who raised me, and that was one demon I was never gonna forgive.

[He reaches out to put a hand on her arm. If she wants to say something, she can. Otherwise, he won't ask.]

... in any case, Pokemon sound way more interestin' then demons!

[There's not much Rin can say to that. She's young, and stupid, and she's done stupid things but thus far she's managed to keep those stupid things to a minimum of punching a lot of faces of people who generally deserve it anyway, losing jobs and saying really thoughtless things.
And acting impulsively, but that's a constant that probably won't go away any time soon.]

[He looks off in the direction of the Skyway, shaking his head, and looks back at Rin.]
That's... in the past, though. The future is what we make it, right?

[Rin nods, smiling faintly with the noise.]
I think Dad woulda liked you...

He was a pretty cool guy. Total pain in my ass but what parent isn't right?

[He smiles a bit sheepishly before his expression turns more serious.]
I never liked the messy business of dealing with people in the court. He knew how to play the political games that were needed.
[He looks away, sighing a bit.]
The man who found my machine and tried to use it again... I saw a lot of my brother in him. Ambitious but well-meaning... but capable of being ruthless. Not that my brother was a... a violent or impulsive or even sneaky person. He simply knew how to draw a line in the sand and stand firm in his position on what would happen if it were crossed.
Sometimes I wonder if I was somehow a bad influence on him. Mother died when he was young, and Father died during a campaign in the war, so there was a time where... I didn't raise him, we had guardians in the palace, but I was his only family that was close. I never apologized to him for what I did. I was still too angry at the time.
... Though I suppose it doesn't matter now. He died a long time ago. Even if he were reborn as one of the Pokemon that sometimes come from the spirits of dead humans, it wouldn't be the same. And I wouldn't wish that on him, anyway. Those Pokemon tend to be... unsettling for a variety of reasons.

[She fidgeted at the rest of his explanation, and his worry over what had become of his brother.]
I... wouldn't worry about it too much. I was Yuki's older sister and I still didn't get to be there for a lot of her life. Sometimes you just... move in different directions, y'know? You try your best for the ones you love but sometimes you just... fall flat.

[He chuckles a little bit.]
Aren't I supposed to be the one reassuring you?
[Then again, every generation of young people surprises him. So maybe he should stop being surprised already.]
