A few days ago, some residents of the Bastion might have become aware of a confrontation happening at a certain Ura's humble abode. There was some yelling- although not clear- and the result was a very harried looking Rin Okumura forcibly dragging away resident Mancer Nathaniel. The next couple of days have been quiet, but today... Well, if anyone wants to ask about and see what the deal was, it seems like today is the day.

It seems like Nathaniel has finally quit his own self imposed isolation, if only so that he doesn't starve to death. Apparently anger can only sustain a man for so long. He can be seen storming through the Bastion, a thundercloud practically gathered about him, or at the eating area looking very much like he wants to be left alone.

Zulf has been less of a hermit. Anyone who has seen him since the argument has probably noticed his black eye and sore nose. He seems angry as well, although it's quieter and colder underneath all his civility. More noticeably, he's been hard at work building a few fences near the edges of the Bastion- mostly near his tent but also in other areas as well. They're not the best fences, but they're good enough, hopefully. You can approach him at the shrine, his tent, or anywhere, really... He's as available as he's always been. He might even approach you, just to warn about falling off the edge of the Bastion.

Seriously, this place has needed safety railings for ages now. Who's bright idea was it not to include safety railings? ~~RUCKS...~~

Anyone wandering by the Kitchens today will notice... Damn, that's a lot of yelling. And slamming of things. Should knives be used to chop that hard...? That's right, Rin is in a bad mood and anyone who comes near will immediately know it. The excess swearing is probably a good clue. Unlike the other two, she's unleashing her temper with wild abandon in the sanctity of her kitchen where no one will bug her. Well. Unless YOU bug her...

Of course, these three aren't the only ones noticeable about the Bastion today! It looks like the Ura residents are just coming out of the woodwork.

Anyone who's talked to either of the latest Ura additions knows that Zulf came in with Zia. While not involved with the row from a few days ago, she seems just as worried as Zulf seems angry. It's possible to see her wandering about with her pet Pecker chick. Might see her coming away after a discussion with Zulf, too... Maybe she knows what's going on?

There's also Zanya and her father Zahi who have been apparently a bit more sociable these last few days. There's apparently a subject they're both interested in which they'll approach people about, although they'll do so differently. Zahi will strike up friendly conversation, but Zanya will simply get right to the point: do you have any idea what happened?

Feel free to strike up conversation with any of them, or even try and talk to everyone if you wish.

[ooc: This is your characters chance to investigate just what the drama is all about! In such a small place as the Bastion, it's a bit hard to miss... Feel free to have your characters speculate or gossip with the Ura NPCs about what may have happened or if they caught onto a sliver of what happened (like Zulf and Nathaniel falling off the edge of the Bastion), or for them to go the more direct route by talking to either Nathaniel, Zulf, Rin, or Zia.]

[Long story short is that Rin went to get Venn's journal from Nathaniel. Upon realizing who exactly wanted it, Nathaniel went to confront Zulf. There was an argument on just who and what caused the Calamity... and then Nat punched Zulf in the face, they rolled off the edge of the Bastion, and Rin separated them after they got blown back up.]

We'll all get to you on our own individual time, and as soon as possible! Just make sure it's clear in your post who your character is approaching.]

Okay, I just wanted to make sure. Because from the sound of it, you're saying that a young woman would have been given free rein to walk all around the most secret of your peoples' research facilities with nobody watching her.

That security would have been totally lax, and let someone without any clue what she was doing... or more importantly, EVERY clue what she was doing, anywhere near a weapon she wasn't authorized to be around.

A weapon that, as we have seen, can break worlds.

Or, for that matter, failed to watch her father's work, check his notes, and maybe verify that what he was building was actually going to do what he said it was going to do.

But it's okay, the Mancers are idiots who don't mind security breaches around dangerous, top secret projects.

[Your sarcasm-fu is WEAK, Nathan-san!]

[That earns a sort of chuffing noise.]

It seems this place desires our continued existence. That is one less worry to weigh down on us.

[Zia chuckles and nods in agreement. Animals are easy; her Pecker doesn't care where she comes from, the Squirt will be friends with her so long as she feeds it, Tama-chan will not pry answers to questions about unfortunate situations out of her.

The Pecker's cheerful chirping quiets when Zia shrinks into herself at the question; leans forward, draws her knees together and her shoulders in.]

Zulf wanted to get the journal from him. It belonged to my father.

... you... heard wrong...

[WELL IF YOU'RE JUST GONNA COME OUT AND ASK LIKE THAT

Rin is going to attempt to lie. Badly.]

Y'noticed?

[Wow that was... harsh. Okay, breathe. Roxas isn't to blame for any of this. He doesn't deserve the anger or the lashing out or the vaguely threatening presence of blue flames that keep cropping up today.]

... it's... a long story. You'd probably be better off not worryin' about it.

[Saying that to people never works.]

She wouldn't have been given free reign, but there's areas where family members can go. That first building, for example. It wasn't uncommon for wives to bring lunches to their Mancer husbands.

[They DO have security clearances, Colin. They're not that far in the past.]

And even if they didn't push the button, they could have been involved. You saw ground zero, they wouldn't have survived if they were right there. but they did SOMETHING, and that ended up agitating someone enough to set off whatever caused the Calamity. Plus, Zulf didn't exactly deny his involvement when I asked him.

[ WHOOPS SORRY BRO. Polka steps back, still obviously worried. She holds out her arms to him, as if to quietly ask if she could help him carry wood. ]

If we could get to the Skyway, I would be able to heal your injuries ... but only there.

[ The Bastion obviously nullifies all of her abilities. It seemed to be common knowledge that it did that, so she figured Zulf would understand. ]

It was more... disorienting than anything, although the events that lead to it certainly didn't help in that regard.

[He reaches up to gingerly touch his nose and winces a bit.]

The landing was worse.

Oh...

[Zia quirks an eyebrow, but there's no other indication of whether or not she's buying it.]

Where did you bring it, then? Finding it is very important to me...

Still, it might be a good idea to educate the young ones on how not to push each other off the edge.

[Humor is how he keeps calm about things like this. If he can make jokes, he's alright.]

[The Kid had been out on an expedition to the Skyway when all the ruckus had been going on, and only now was he finally walking back into the Bastion with his Hammer over his shoulder; his face and arms littered with little cuts and bruises, but overall he just looked a little more dirty and unkempt than his usual. As he strode in he happened to notice Zulf...oddly sporting a black eye, causing The Kid to raise an eyebrow.]

What, the monument fight back this time?

[When there are knives and fire involved, Roxas is pretty chill with just being snapped at a little.]

Would it- help to tell someone about it instead of taking it out on the kitchen?

[It was making her wonder just how much of the constant warring between demon and human kind could be stopped by the same. After all, she and Kuro had become friends, and Shiro to Kuro before that. Familiars worked with exorcists well enough, even if they didn't like humans that much...

Ah... it was far less cut and dry when it was two different beings entirely going at each other's throats...]

I'unno. I'm sure I could ask somethin', but I can't think of anythin' right now. A lotta this still goes over my head a bit.

[And that was almost entirely them being mad at Rin, and it was... ironically for the same goddamn thing: not being honest.]

Y'never hated me as much as Zulf hates the Mancers, Bon. Even when I was at my worst...

Greh, perhaps a Bastion-wide lesson for those who missed such things in their own youth.

Perhaps it would be simpler to give them wings than to gather them all at once, however.

[He perks up a bit at the sound of her arrival, and sets another broken dish aside to wave.]

I thought you might need some help with this.

[Crap.

She hates you so much right now, Nathaniel.]

... it's... hidden. I don't have it here with me.

[then, softly:]

I'm sorry...

Hahaha, now there's an idea! It'd make exploring the Skyway a lot easier too.

[Kitchen knives as a weapon would be the ultimate in "last resort" for Rin.]

It's not like the kitchen has feelings.

[It's a relief to see the Kid come back considering the disaster that has been the past few days, and it shows in the way Zulf's shoulders ease up a little even as he sighs at the joke.]

That would be easier to deal with, Lemaign only knows. [He glances back to the rest of the Bastion, gingerly touching at his eye.] But no, once again I have gotten into things with a Mancer.

It's good that you've returned. We... might have to talk about things with the rest of the Bastion sooner than we thought. It turns out that I may have had a reputation in the Mancers, and now Nathaniel believes that the Calamity was my fault.

[Some of his hate creeps back into those last few words, and the Kid ought to be able to figure out why. With the Bastion's original purpose, the very idea of purposefully causing the Calamity is enough to make him sick with rage.]

[That's the point Colin's making.]

None of us should have survived. But we did.

And your entire assumption is that a known party was the perpetrator. Spies and saboteurs aren't the people you know. Not unless they're a Darlock.

If you have any evidence that he did it, I'm more than willing to hear it. But if you had evidence, why isn't he taking a long plummet off of the skyway? Why haven't you had us take him out?

And don't you worry about Zulf, he'll be getting an earful from me too. But right now, YOU'RE the one who's not adding up. And I think you know it.

It's a lot to take in, I know... Do you want to go over it in your head a while longer? I can promise you the silence won't bother me much. I, ah...

[He's just going to look around the kitchen again.]

I think I'll be kept busy enough.

He said as much when I talked to him a before the festival.

[Colin keeps right on petting the Pecker, gently and soothingly. No need to panic the little guy.]

[His tone is soft, curious. He's not going to push her hard.]
