Pre-Day 61: pre-game threading

... it's better not to look at the statues.

[Rin speaks quietly, almost too quiet to be heard, gaze somewhere far away. She was a strong girl, a half-demon who had been through a lot in just fifteen short years, but seeing the statues with familiar faces, dressed in True Cross uniforms and exorcist garb had shaken her to her very core.

It was questionable if she would ever recover fully from it.]

[ Rin gets a blank stare for a moment, before Duke kicks the wall and swears once more.

Now the knight wants to. But from the girl's expression, it wouldn't be that good of an idea.

After a moment, Duke steps over and nudges Rin's shoulder. ]

So what's there to do?

[ Distract the kid, get her mind off it. It tends to work, usually for a short time. ]

[That snaps her out of it, and she shakes her head to clear it, bits of messy black hair falling out of her ponytail.]

Oh uhm... well every so often we get word of Cores that are around on the skyways, and Cores help us rebuild so we'll usually take a team or two out to go find them. Other than that... explorin', lookin' for supplies... working on building things here or just chores for upkeep.

And that's all out where the creatures are, except for those upkeep chores, huh. Can't say I've ever had to build anything bigger than a tent.

Well the Cores are really nifty like that! They actually make a lotta the buildings and other things we need. Any building we do is repair, or makin' things we haven't gotten a Core for yet. No one's really had to make like a whole huge buildin' yet.

[notduchess]

... So what is there to do while waiting to find out if there's a core?

[hellpyre]

... chores. Mostly.

[Sounds about as fun as it is.]

[notduchess]

.... Its been years since I've had more than "keep your desk neat" as a chore.

[ Yeah. Lots of fun.

Duke is going to go stir crazy- ]

[hellpyre]

... yeah. My worst chores back home were keepin' my room clean and cookin' for my family.

But uh... y'know it's not like... pointless? I mean we gotta do it to keep this place runnin'.

[notduchess]

Oh, it makes sense. Its just not something that, ah... was ever expected I'd need to do.

[ Duke picks up that towel that got to be an irritation outlet, shaking it out once. ]

I'll help with what I can, of course, just...

[ The knight might be terrible carpenter, you never know. ]

[hellpyre]

Yeah, I know. Me either. But... find somethin' you're good at and see if you can't do that? I mean the only thing I'm any good at is cookin', so...

[notduchess]

... Somehow I doubt there's a great need for paperwork here.

[ The knight is pretty much poking fun at herself, but there is a thinking expression-

or well, the same one as usual that says "I am going to stay calm about this... thing." ]

[At least Rin gets that's what she's trying to do.]

Hehe, no not really.

I'll figure something out, or just ... be a pair of directed hands until then.

[ Well, something to help with the bastion's upkeep. Other than that... ]

... How many people ... aren't in there teens here?

[hellpyre]

... oh. Uhm...

[Yeah she knows she's a kid. She's not going to make a huge deal over that because if her experiences in Kyoto taught her anything is that she's still young, and very young for a demon.]

There's... about seven? Bon, Crona, Maka and I are the kids that showed up after everyone else. Marie is from Maka and Crona's world [sort of] and she was their teacher there.

... You used to monsters? Or know if the others are?

[ Because Duke's used to monster worlds, even if the way these ones act is a bit... different. ]

[hellpyre]

Monsters? Eh... kinda...

[Rin figures they're going to stay and talk in the kitchen for now, and people won't be up for another hour at least, so she hops up on the counter for a seat, tucking her tail around her waist.]

Where I'm from 'monsters' isn't really the right word. Demons is what we usually call 'em. And Maka, she's part of a whole school that deals with these things called Kishin.

So... I guess we're used to dealin' with shit like that, yeah? The monsters here aren't anything like our stuff back in our worlds but we got enough experience with it that we're not helpless, y'know?

[notduchess]

That's good. I'll guess that some of the things I'm used to aren't familiar to you, the same way those are for me.

[ Definitely relieved. ]

[hellpyre]

Yeah, probably. Seems to be a common thing around here.

[notduchess]

Still a really good thing. Then, now that we've noticed and mentioned how great it is, someone will wind up here with... no odd things to their world and no fighting experience.

[hellpyre]

Well then, that's just some one we have to protect and teach. Right?

[notduchess]

Yep. I wonder if I should try finding stuff for a just in case that happens...

[ Totally folding hands and resting a chin on them. Not something the knight looks forward to, but... ]

Well... we do manage to bring back supplies a lot, when we go out on the Skyway. Some of what's left is total garbage but there's usable things too. Plus there's these things called shards - they're kinda like mini Cores? Anyway... if you get enough from smackin' monsters around you can "purchase" things with them.

[notduchess]

Huh. You just collect them and.. trade them in, or something?

[ "Purchasing" sounds like its not quite right so- ]
