Pre-Day 61: pre-game threading

[Wow that's the happiest he's looked in days, what a weird kid, he knows very well that being out on the skyway is dangerous and--

He's a protagonist.]

I'm ready whenever you are, guys.

[Protagonists are the best for missions like this. And Nathaniel looks happy to see Rin and Maka agreeing to it, he really didn't want to go alone.]

Great! Meet me at the north part of the Bastion, by the link to the Skyway, in a half-hour.

[hellpyre]

[They are the best protags.]

Right! C'mon Maka, lets go get ready.

[After all she's still in the clothes she slept in. And she needs to get her sword.]

[Rin pls, he's already all dressed and prepared, he just needs to get his scythe.]

I'll race ya back!

[Alright kiddies let's get this train rolling!

A half-hour later Nathaniel is waiting by the path to the Skyway. He's already got everything he needs, but he's grabbed a couple extra health potions: one for each person involved.]

Here, take these before we go. The area where the core is can be kinda dangerous, it's full of Squirts 'n Gasfellas.

Oh goodie, my favorite Windbags.

[Rin takes the potions with a roll of her eyes, tucking them away in the leather pouches she had gotten attached to her belt some time ago. Sword on her back, she was ready to go whenever Nathaniel was.]

Could be worse, 'least we'll all be together.

[It hasn't occurred to him that Nathaniel might not be much of a fighter, after all--appearances are deceiving. He tucks the supplies away in the bag attached to his hip and hefts his scythe against his shoulder.]

Still, don't go charging ahead without us, anybody.

[...As if Maka's never done something like that.]

[Well hopefully nobody would go charging ahead, that's a recipe for disaster.

But Nathaniel won't comment on it and instead leads everyone along. Their travels will actually lead them to a piece of the ruined city of Caelondia: The Workmen Ward.]

We need to go East from here, the Core is supposedly within the Forge. But stay close, if you wander into Scumbag Alley you won't be coming back.

[Unfortunately they are two people prone to heroics, but they've also been there long enough that Rin, at least, has been trying not to be so gung-ho about leaping to the rescue and doing something stupid.]

Eesh... this place is in worse shape than the rest of the Skyway...

[Rin shoulders her sword, glancing around.]

Any idea where that's at so we can try to avoid it?

Probably in a place where you'd think there would be a lot of shards, with vases and such. They like to hide in those things, I've noticed.

[Still like something out of an RPG, weird huh.]

At any rate, we probably shouldn't sit around talking all day about what we shouldn't be doing and actually go look for this Core. We need it, right?

Just don't head south, and you'll be fine. Scumbag Alley is nowhere near the Forge.

But yeah, we really need the Core. We don't have a viable source of drinking water in the Bastion, and our reserves are gonna run out before long. My master said that the next core should get us enough power to activate the reservoir.

[And he's heading East, towards the Forge. So far there are a lot of statues, but no monsters around.]

Well then we're gonna try like hell to get it.

[Rin shoulders her sword and follows after Nathaniel and Maka, keeping a look out for anything - monsters, core or otherwise. It's quiet for now, but Rin is attentive in spite of that. Anything could appear, and Squirts in particular had a habit of sneaking up on people.]
