Day 134(+135?) | Dry Lightning
Who: Tris, Briar, Rosethorn, and EVERYONE IN BASTION. Yes. All of you. Including the dragon. They will find you c:
OPEN
Where: All over the bastion. There will be a note on the monument, then Tris/Briar/Rosethorn may just come find your character (If that is all right-)
When: Day 134, (135 if needed-)
What: After the events of that gathering and the arrival of one of their teachers, the Winding Circle mages think everyone needs to meditate. Its a good idea. It will help. Really. And no, they don't plan on giving much of a choice.
Format: Will match!
Warnings: Will edit if any are needed!
It starts with a plate of cookies (The ones Tris pretty much always makes), and a piece of paper stuck out by the monument. The paper shows a figure, with an upset face and leaking lines of some sort, then the figure settled in a circle in what should be a fairly standard meditation seat, then the figure again, although this time with a smile and no leaking lines. Completely clear, right?
It gets a little more vague. This looks like the shape of the Bastion, with a bunch of figures in it. One even looks like a dragon. The figures are all inside a circle right after that. Is that clear? No?
Well, there are three mages looking to talk to the residents of the Bastion today. Tris, Briar, or Rosethorn can explain. And they intend to explain to everyone why its a good idea.
(OOC: You can : Pick a location and a mage (in the headline) if you prefer one, or just a location and whoever is on will jump at you.

[ That could be a lot like using a great deal of magic, to Tris's experience. She taps one arm lightly. ]
I've given magical power to others before. How do you fare with volcanic heat? Its not the same as fire, true, but it burns anyway.
no subject
[Rin nods, huddling in on herself. Even with the blankets on her legs, being out from under them made her feel unnaturally cold.]
Uhm... I'unno. Might be hot enough? My flames run pretty high...

[ Tris looks about, tugging the cloth over her mass of braids off before pulling a chair closer. Chime takes the cloth and flies over to sit on the end of the bed, as Tris finds a braid with a black tie at the end and undoes less than an inch of it.
The palm of that hand radiates heat now, and she carefully holds her hand out. ]
In terms of heat, how does this seem to you?
[ Make sure its good before she offers more, that's what this is. ]
no subject
Reaching a tentative hand out, she let her fingers linger over the heat.]
Lot warmer than I feel right now.

[ Tris takes her glasses off, and stares at Rin a bit. The faint silver sheen to the girl looks worse than usual, and as she concentrates, that internal glow that she'd focused on before looks... a bit pathetic at the moment. ]
The way your magic looks is just plain different, so I don't know if anything I am about to say will make sense to you. When you draw on your fire, you let some of it out, right? Instead of drawing on the fire inside you, I want you to try to draw on the fire under your hand. It might feel like a coil.
no subject
[Yeah that inner fire of hers looks about as good as she feels right now.]
Uhm...
[Wow this is reminding her a lot of her training with Shura. But she did manage to light the candles the way Shura wanted her to, eventually. Right. Okay. She can do this.
She hopes.]
O-okay...
no subject
That sounds like this might help. A little, at least. Your flames are tied into you a little more than this is tied into me.
[ At 'this' she shifts the fingers on the hand holds the volcanic heat. ]
You can try to imagine it like catching the fire with an end of a stick, or candle. Collect what is under your hand, and bring it in.
no subject
[Not that she knew that for fifteen years.
There's another nod, and she lets out a pent up breath before pulling in another one. Out, and in, slow, even breaths. That's what Bon did, and she was trying to do the same even though she had very little practice with it.
Slowly the heat starts to come towards her hand, actually turning in to small, curling flames, orange at the base but becoming blue as they get closer to her palm.]
no subject
Definitely something that will be worked on.
She waits until the flames are mostly, if not completely, in Rin's hand before she says anything. ]
That's usually how it is, at least with the magic home. Whether anyone realizes what you have is magic or not, that's up in the air.
no subject
The flames curl around her hand, blue fire licking across her skin with no ill effects. She's not completely warmed just yet, but it's getting better and chances are high she'll finally be able to recover over he next couple of days.]
Most people where I'm from don't have anythin' like this. It's a demon thing, more than a human thing. But humans can used tamed and allied demons to have some kinda power. It's just not the "born with it" kind.
... thank you. I wasn't sure if I was gonna be okay after all that.
no subject
[ Tris doublechecks that the braid is tied off snugly. ]
A lot of academic mages don't acknowledge the existence of the ambient mages. My family thought I was possessed, or cursed. I suppose hail indoors might look like that.
[ Tris waves a hand. ]
No problem. I did something much more silly than being in a wrong place at the wrong time, and ended up draining myself, more or less. I could help, and it lets me get to my point in being here.
no subject
But she wasn't about to argue it either because what the hell else do you call a demon's power?]
Lotta people thought there was somethin' wrong with me, too, growin' up. I didn't have the flames but I was still stronger than I should've been and I never got sick. People were... afraid of me.
[And she was alone, and angry, and hated every second of it but couldn't change her situation no matter how hard she tried to be that "gentler person" Shiro wanted her to be.
But she didn't want to dwell on that right now now.]
Your point?
no subject
[ She settles her glasses on her nose, and studies Rin. ]
I know that its different magics, different powers, different worlds. But meditation can really help with control. Its the first thing the four of us were taught, and if you're worried about going out of control through meditation, one of our teachers is here. If her circles can't keep everything in, then mine can. Even if you don't call it magic, another teacher said it was worth it anyway, due to simply being alive.
... And we're getting the whole of Bastion in on it as well.
no subject
[The mention of meditation makes her frown, but not as much as Tris might have expected. Three months ago, it would have been a different story, but recent happenings have pushed her in to realizing her own limitations to a painful degree.]
... okay.
no subject
[ Tris plans on learning the other style of magic so she can avoid it, but that’s not here or now. Or, perhaps, even possible anymore.
The easy answer makes her eyebrows go up a little. She'd been expecting more of a fight. ]
I'd like to start with the style of meditation that is familiar to me and my family. All that you really need to remember is the breathing from whatever it is you've done before. If you're worried about control, I can set up barriers that will keep earthquakes from leaking out, I'm sure we can keep any extra fire from running away. One of us will be setting a circle up anyway.
no subject
Anything.]
Ain't gonna make any promises on how well this'll go, but... I'll try it.
[Feeling a little better now, she sat up more, letting the blankets fall to her lap.]
... and uhm. Thanks. Again. For helpin' me, and... actually talkin' to me about this.
no subject
We have plenty of time. I'm never going to expect instant results.
[ Tris waves away Rin's thanks a little. ]
Its no trouble to me. Helping all of you who actually go out on the Skyway seems to be most of what I can do without... scaring people. Talking is fairly easy.
no subject
So really 90% of her training is whatever shit they could figure out might maybe work.
Spoilers: most of it doesn't.]
Well... y'don't scare me, for whatever it's worth.
no subject
I haven't done anything other than provide a few clouds and some heat for you. But thanks.
no subject
[Rin matches Tris' wry smile with a much warmer one of her own, though beneath it was a good deal of her own masked pain and sorrow.]
I grew up without friends, too. I hate bein' alone. Like hell I'm ever gonna put some one else through that kinda pain, especially some one I already consider a friend.
no subject
[ The way she says 'demons', its clearly just stories and other people's superstition. Worlds, man. ]
... Yes, being alone is... the worst.
[ There's a reason she took in a four year old.
... She hadn't meant to think of Glaki and Little Bear.
So here is a startled look when she registers that about being friends. ]
Well. That may be the record for fastest friend yet.
no subject
[Because that was how it had been for Rin.]
And they're missin' out, really.
[Rin is aware that they're pretty much myths in other worlds, but it doesn't bother her in the least because guess what she thought before the truth was revealed to her.
It doesn't offend her in the least.]
. . . eh? Record?
no subject
[ Rin gets a slightly startled, much less sharp smile for that comment, before it turns a little wry. ]
I've talked to you... twice? And you're already calling me friend. It took me months to get along with Briar - and we're foster siblings. I taught him how to read. Never mind my other two siblings.
no subject
[Rin had that problem even when she was little...]
... oh. Well... I don't see any reason to not be friends, right? Unless you don't wanna be friends.
