[If it weren't for the food coma, she would have caught on sooner, but it's Kaoru's voice that got her to sit up with a tired smile.]
I wouldn't hit Tama-chan. I'm not that mean!
no subject
...ne, Rin-chan? It's been a little while - since we had a twin-talk, you know? You doing okay?
no subject
[She gives him a grin for that, reaching over to offer pets to Tama-chan.]
Mn... [The smile faded, shoulders slumping as she let out a sigh.]
I... still feel bad. About what happened. I felt like I was really losin' myself for a while, but I know I'm just dealin' with a lotta shit I ain't used to.
no subject
You had me a little worried, you know? Not about the whole blue flaming thing so much as how you were so torn up by...well, everything. Everyone. If...
[he hesitates, amends what he was about to say, and gets it all out in a rush before he can change his mind]
...I feel I could have done more for you and didn't... that's all. But you're doing better, right?
no subject
... even back home, after Dad died, we never lost anyone on our missions at the cram school. I mean... it'd happen eventually, right? We're exorcists, it's dangerous work. But it just didn't happen. Here, though...
[She let out a sigh, tail curling next to her.]
I'll... get through it. I gotta keep movin' forward. There's too much here to get hung up on and I ain't gonna do that to my friends again.
no subject
The longer I'm here the more I feel the need to be able to just... do something, you know? Not that I'd be any use fighting even if I did know how. [or that Seimei would let him, for that matter.]
But I want to help. I can't just stand by again while people are getting hurt.
no subject
[Rin fidgeted a little, resting her hand on Tama-chan's head.]
But if people are gettin' hurt, maybe what we need is some one who can help them on the Skyway. We've got some healers but if they're fightin', too, they can't always help. You... handled Sonic pretty well, from what I remember.
no subject
We were discussing it and kind of came to the conclusion that if I do get the abilities I need to heal people out there, I should be able to defend myself, too. I think that's about right... I don't want to be a liability out there.
no subject
[she shrugs a little. It's not really the point.]
There's nothin' saying you can't learn to at least protect yourself out there. It's a lot easier than learnin' out to fight out right.
no subject
[breathes a sigh] I'll figure it out, I guess. I have a lot of shards set by, since we've started going out every day, so I suppose I can start with defense and work from there. [...because Seimei wouldn't be happy with him skipping off with no way to protect himself. Not that he would be very happy about it anyway.] We'll talk it over later, probably...
[his lips push into a pout because he still has lots of niggling worries. What if he gets powers but they don't work? What if he learns how to heal people but actually sucks at it? What good is a healer who can't heal?!]
[Tama-chan's tail thumps against his leg. It would almost seem deliberate, if she weren't snuggling up close to Rin and clearly blissed out.]
no subject
[She doesn't say what worse was, but her hand does move to her right ankle.
She nods, offering him an encouraging smile.]
I think you can learn to do anythin' you really set your mind to. You're a lot smarter than me, Kaoru.
no subject
If I'm gonna do this it should be sooner rather than later. I've thought about a lot but I just keep chickening out. I shouldn't give myself the chance to do so again.

[she even gives Tama a pet to reassure her that she's still there for attention giving.]
no subject
...yes, I'm sure she will. She seems very fond of you - you and Seimei. [reaching out a hand to help Rin up] Sometimes it feels like I'm just her fancy transportation.
no subject
[Rin takes the offered hand, getting to her feet and dusting off her skirt.]
Thanks.
no subject
[reddening a little at the Mama comment] I... I'm not.
no subject
It's not nice to ignore your mama.
[This is Rin completely ignoring your protests, Kaoru.]
no subject
But... but I'm not a Mama. Or at least not in the regular sense.
no subject
[You'll get your attention from Auntie Rin soon.]
I'm just teasin'. But you are a parent, in a loose sense.

[But she drops the teasing tone, giving him a nudge.]
But I'll stop.
