[A delicious smell begins to waft out of the Distillery in the early afternoon. Anyone who investigates will find that Mireille has baked a rather large cake, topped with bright yellow frosting and blue flowers.

Also, whoever enters the Distillery will be asked a question.]

What do you think: should it be served now, or after dinner?

Yeah, yeah, avoid the face, I got it.

[Another few hits, the shield remains, though the last slash down does get a bit of a flicker in the translucent barrier.]

It's pretty strong. That's good.

[individuates]

[poking his tongue out at her] I have other assets, but its one of my best.

Does it work handsfree - like, if I drop my hands, does the shield drop, too? Mind if I try that?

Mnnn.. you're cute, but you're not my type. Sorry.

[She gives him a teasing smile, knowing neither of them thought of one another like that.]

I think I know where it should stop, so yeah. Try it.

[individuates]

[chuckles softly - you're not his either, don't worry - and c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y drops his hands] Don't hit me, okay? Just test it. That goes for you too, Tama-chan - I know your horn's blunt but that doesn't mean you can't hurt me with it.

[hellpyre]

I won't, I won't!

[She steps back, readying another swing. A spin of the blade in her hand and she brings it down as if she's going to hit him in the head.

Of course if the shield still works it will just bounce, but if it even passes through where it was stopping before she has enough control to pull back and avoid actually striking him.]

[individuates]

[the shield gives another slight flicker, but the attack bounces and Kaoru gives a low whistle of awe.]

All right, not bad. Don't particularly want to have to face down the monsters with only this between me and them, but at least I know it will hold them off. [a sigh of relief] ...and I have some way to protect myself.

[Tama-chan continues jabbing her horn against the shield, enjoying the game. It will probably give out soon.]

Seimei will be happier with this, won't he? I know you're worried about him frettin' over you an' all that...

[Rin nudged Tama-chan with her foot gently.]

Save your strength for a good fight, Tama. Pickin' on your ma-- ... dad ain't any fun if you accidentally hurt him.

[individuates]

[small smile] He will. And me, too. It's a start, at least. I just felt like not being able to defend against those things means I was less able to pull my weight around here, you know?

Owch [the shield gives out at about that moment, though Tama-chan had thoughtfully switched to ramming with her snout and the side of her horn, so the impact isn't as painful as it could have been. Still pretty bad, though - Tama-chan runs around behind him as he drops to his knees, rubbing his shin] Jeez, save it for the monsters, little one. [...that's definitely going to bruise.]

[hellpyre]

I guess I can understand that...

[Not really. It sounds like something Shiemi would say, though, so she's not a stranger to it at least.]

Hey! Tama-chan! We were done, be nice!

[individuates]

[rubbing his ankle. It still hurts, but he's laughing, trying to feel behind to stroke her.]

She just got a little carried away - Tama-chan, if you think I'm mad at you, what's the point in hiding behind me?

[hellpyre]

Silly...

[Rin put her sword away, crouching down so she could reach a hand out to Tama-chan.]

Your ankle okay?

[individuates]

I'm fine, I'm fine! Tama- hey, Tama-chan, what are you doing, you can't hide under me either...

[she circles around Kaoru and towards Rin's outstretched hand instead, pushing her snout into it]

Keep that up and we might just use you in the future.

[Rin smiled at Tama and picked her up once she made her way over.]

Just try not to direct it at us, okay?
