[If anyone goes near the Distillery today, they will find Mireille composing a short list, which she eventually nails to the front door. The list is as follows:

- Two Pecker eggs
- One pound of wheat, ground
- A rare fruit (two cups worth)
- Food coloring (red, blue, and yellow)

Mireille is also within the Distillery, and can answer any questions about the list.]

[pops off for a little while, but returns with a few stoppered bottles] ...I have them all, I think. I don't know how true the colours are, but they'll be as close as natural dyes can go.

So...? What now?

Hmm...I think these will work, but let's test them to be sure.

[If Kaoru wants to stick around for a moment, Mireille will be whipping up a batch of some kind of frosting, which she'll separate into a few containers to mix the different dyes into to see what colors she can get from them.]

[you shouldn't forget to taste test them, either! Kaoru won't. He'll stick around to watch... and maybe steal samples of the frosting when Mireille's not looking...]

[Yeah, she's done pretty quickly. Also the frosting all tastes like sugar, Mireille didn't add any special flavors to it, but the colors are nice and bright.]

...pretty much as I expected it to, I guess.

So what are you planning to use it for? Is it someone's birthday?

Mmn, no, I just wanted to make something sweet.

...you were going to make me harvest, thresh, and grind my own flour just to satisfy your pregnancy cravings?

I could have just got you a cake with shards.

[That just gets a laugh from her.]

My my, such harsh words!

Truthfully, I am not so sure it is good to get into a habit of depending on the Bastion for everything. Nathaniel seems to think that we can live out our lives here, but I am reasonably sure that we will have to leave at some point. And if we do leave, then it would be best for us to remember the real way of making things, now wouldn't it?

[listens to her talk, sucking a bit of blue icing from his finger]

That's fair enough, in a few ways. I mean, even I've had to go back to basics to make clothes, much as I hate to. But leave the Bastion? After everything we've been doing... after everyone has sacrificed just to get it back on its feet? I'm not sure it's going to happen unless there's an extremely appealing alternative out there.
