Day 267 [Open] Magical Jerky Cows and shuffling booties

UKYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

[It was just another day in the Bastion, helping make preparations for assisting the Ura that were in dire straits. But then, during lunch, Ibuki's cry of disbelief and amusement rang out loud and clear]

[Because she used the monument to create "magical jerky cows", and renovated one of the new buildings on the Bastion into a music venue.]

[... after her initial cry, Ibuki can be found in front of iBooty Shuffle, leaning against one of the chocolate jerky cows and...]

[... just... laughing. That's all she's doing. Laughing]

Um, yes, yes? Ibuki excuses you!

[she laughs a bit more]

Hello! Hi! Ibuki hasn't seen you before! Are you new? Hi!

Oh, well that's good - wait. No, Jane, you weren't literally asking to be excused, it's a saying. She pushes that little blip of weirdness away to answer the girl's question.

"Er, yes, I am new, and I don't think we've met before." She pauses. "Are you...speaking in third person?"

"That's right, it's one of Ibuki's endearing character traits!" she announces, before introducing herself, "Ibuki is Ibuki Mioda! Nice to meet mew! Have a token of chocolate chip jerky to officially welcome you to the Bastion!"

As she speaks, Ibuki peels off a strip of chocolate chip jerky from the cow (which oddly doesn't seem to mind) to offer it to the newcomer.

Ahah, so her hunch had been right. Well, better to propose a hunch than be rude. "It's nice to meet..."

Wait. What is she doing? What is -

Oh, oh, oh gosh, oh wow, she just peeled a strip of that weird skin off the cow beside her. And she called it chocolate chip jerky? What?

...Well...Jane couldn't be rude and say no, right? After all, she was probably going to be here for...the rest of her life. She does her best to smile as she shakily accepts the chocolate chip jerky. "Um...thank you? I, er, wasn't aware that...there was such a thing??"

Jane could mean the weird magic cows or chocolate chip jerky itself, even she's not sure which. It might be both.

"Magic jerky cows weren't a thing until Ibuki did the thing! The magical thing with the monument! It's amazing!" Ibuki began jabbering quickly, "Ibuki saw the donut trees earlier and she was like... UWAH! Ibuki SO has to top that! So, so, she had to think about it long and and hard! It took her weeks to come up with the idea, and the shards, and she had to build her music venue first because that was SOOO much more important to Ibuki! And then, suddenly, there's an empty building that's perfect for Ibuki's needs, so Ibuki suddenly has more than she needed for the venue! Incredible! Ibuki has enough for both, so she did!"

Ibuki definitely has quite the lung capacity...

Oh gosh, that's a lot of rambling. Lots and lots of rambling. Jane tries to listen to all of it, to make sure she gets the key points of Ibuki's explanation, but the main thing that comes through is the monument comment.

"Really? You can...oh, let me see if I've got this right, you can collect these shards and go to the monument in the center of the Bastion, and you can request that something be created with those shards?"

This place just gets stranger and stranger every day, it really does.

"Yeah, yeah! That's right! But, but you have to work at it really hard and keep at it! Like, like, the cows were two hundred shards! And fixing up the music venue was three hundred! Lots! Ibuki's not good at fighting, so it took her awhile and teaming up with Patchy-chan to get the shards she needs! So many shards that Ibuki just wasted! She sure hopes that they're not going to run out anytime soon! Who knows if there's a limited amount or not? What a mystery!"

Despite her voiced concern, she doesn't sound worried at all...

As hard as it is to wrap her head around that monument being able to create entirely new species whether they be plant or animal, and as much as the word 'mystery' usually pings her interest, it's the mention of fighting that really throws Jane off.

"You have to get these shards by fighting?" Jane takes a moment to glance around. The Bastion seems so peaceful, it's hard to imagine anyone doing any fighting to collect items. "Where?"

"Out on the skyway!" Ibuki points towards the exit of the Bastion, "It's like something out of a video game! You fight the random monsters out there, and then suddenly, pretty shards! Whoa!"

"Oh, I'm quite familiar with game mechanics, thank you," Jane says. It sort of just slips out of her mouth. At least the drop rate is large enough that people can actually do things with what they get, unlike the pittance of grist she'd encountered in the game, but it's a bit too familiar not to make her wary. "But these monsters mostly keep to the Skyway, yes? It's not common for them to come here, is it?"

Not that she's unprepared if they do, but then again, it's doubtful that everyone who survives the end of the world starts out with combat experience, a la Ibuki's testimony.

"Yeah, yeah! Don't worry, they don't seem to care about entering the Bastion for some reason! Maybe it's magic! Or gameplay mechanics!"

After a pause, she adds, "Well, well, the hospital was haunted one time for some reason... that was reaaaaaallly scary and bad, but it's fine, now!"
