In the time between morning and noon, Paarthurnax settles down by the river of Dragonfield where the usual stone tablet depicting all the letters of dovahzul is. It's a recognizable landmark, after all... Although he won't turn away new faces.

During the afternoon, anyone venturing nearby will be called to by the old dragon. Investigate?

Perhaps, if we are fortunate, we may find an even middle for those who desire to keep that freedom and those that wish for more order. They are, in the end, two sides of the same coin.

I believe the deities of this place are similar in that duality, are they not?

Ah, right—like, Hense is pain and pleasure... [That's the only one she remembers, though.] I...don't really think I get it, though.

Like... [She pauses when she can't articulate it immediately, makes a vague, largely unhelpful wave-y gesture, and hums.] I mean—stuff like that's opposites, right? Doesn't one opposite...um, cancel out another, I guess? Does that make sense? So, having them both at the same time...

Hmm.

Perhaps to understand better, consider this: you are a creature of land but also water, correct?

[amphibian]

I...guess I kinda am, yeah! [She isn't totally sure where this is going but she gets swimming, anyway.]

[He knows she gets swimming. So he's doing his best to connect this idea with what she knows best.]

As someone who knows both, to a degree, then I ask: could you have a pool or a river if there was no earth to hold it?

[amphibian]

...No, I guess you couldn't. [Her eyes get just a little bit wider and she perks up—she thinks she might be getting it!]

It is the same for them- the same for this pantheon's duality. Pleasure and pain exist because of one another. If there was no earth, then there would be nothing to dig in so that we could craft a pool. If there was no pain, there would be nothing for us to compare to pleasure.
