[Days 197 → 200] Goodnight song, played so wrong... [OPEN]
Who: Quarantined survivors who came back from the Radio Tower mission, anyone who wants to risk visiting them.
Open: Open
When: Day 197 → Day 200
Where: The Hospital, in the wing that Colin sectioned off
What: So that Radio Tower mission didn't exactly go according to plan, did it? Despite Rin's efforts to cleanse everyone with her flames, Colin has insisted on Quarantine and has shoved everyone involved in to the hospital to wait it out and hope that no symptoms show up. Boredom, Pokemon egg hatching and other such shenanigans ensue.
Format: any
Warnings: The designated Patient Zeros are involved in this, and will beginning showing symptoms starting Day 200, kicking off the second part of the Sickness Within plot.
[Basically what it says at the top. Individual threads for the different days are set up below, so thread around as you see fit!]
NOTE: This comment has information about the disease that can be used during this event.

The kid - Haruka - he said he had a heart condition. He didn't really seem to know if it was a disease thing, but he said you guys worked with him. So you ought to know.
[ Duke, that doesn't explain your sheet and handful of pens. ]
no subject
It sounds like there's a complete thought there, I just know it.
no subject
They're listening, Duke~]

[ Duke shakes out the sheet then seems to notice the whiteboard. Excuse the fascinated look, Duke is from a world with chalkboards.
Right, the knight was talking. ]
So even if his heart problem is a disease, I can undo some of the damage, even if I can't cure the disease. I guess I could shard up some books, but then I would have to study and research and find some way to make sure I'm doing it right, and it would take a lot longer to make sure it is safe.
Also, how do I use this? [ The whiteboard stuck to the wall.
.. the most the knight has said at once, isn't it- ]

Yukio, did you see the markers for that board anywhere?
[He gives Yukio a glance. If Duke wants to do a project like this to pass the time, he is definitely NOT going to turn him down. They all need to keep busy to pass the time...]

From what we've been able to tell, Haruka-san's condition is caused by a birth defect. He received some kind of corrective surgery before arriving here, but unfortunately we don't really have any way of knowing what kind or how successful it was just yet.
I don't really have any experience with magical healing and its limits, but I can't see any harm in trying if you think there's a chance your abilities could help.
[Give him a second to root around in the drawer of the desk he's sitting at- ah, there we go. Here, have a black marker.]

[ Glorious. The sheet is forgotten over one shoulder and the pens that had been gathered are left at the desk. Duke will take that white board marker, uncap it, and test it on a corner of the white board. ]
Aren't they supposed to tell... Well, if not conscious, poses problems...
[ Excuse Duke while the knight fills the whiteboard with what looks like a really big math formula. Some of the numbers look off, like sevens and nines seem a bit close, and fives are missing a bit of shape, but its still recognizably numbers of the hindu-arabic system (aka, the one almost everyone on earth uses in math)... ]
I only know a couple of healing formula, but this one is my strongest. As I said, disease, can't do anything about. Or poison, or illness, or any other sort of ailment. Bruises, cuts, abrasions, broken bones, torn muscles, it really depends on what this finds...
[ Oops the knight has almost filled this whiteboard. It might be because the writing is larger than usual, because writing on whiteboards, or larger than usual because Duke is using a second number system.
.... well there's clear wall space, right...? ]

[Colin watches Duke work, tracking and recording the formula while it's being written. He doesn't understand it, but some mages would probably appreciate it.]
The problem is that as he grew, his heart's basically grown into the damage. It's a lot harder to repair now.

Even if this can't help Haruka-san, if it can do what you say it can, it could be incredibly helpful to other residents. People are always coming back from the Skyway with injuries...

[ Excuse Duke, there's a bit of coughing into an elbow and continuing to scribble. Its totally marker fumes, right? ]
Times when that three a day is handy - there's a mechanic I can tack on just for increasing spell power.
Maybe I'll have to put some shards into books... Guardian Field isn't that good for healing, and its the only thing that I can make hit more than one person.... Healing Circle would be better, and if I can figure out how to make it, Nurse best yet...
no subject
You've treated war injuries, from the sound of it... Have you studied medical magic, though?
no subject
Should we be worried, bro?]
no subject
[ Totally fine? Totally. Just a fever that Duke is ignoring like a smart person, and that cough. Speaking of that cough- ]
... These things smell funny..
no subject
Duke, put down the marker.
How long has your temperature been elevated?
[Colin's eyes narrow, regarding Duke plainly. They've been here three days, nothing new could have been introduced in that time, which means Duke was exposed to something before they got here. And given that nobody else was sick, that doesn't leave them with a lot of possibilities...]
no subject
Hope you have a good answer, buddy.]

I thought the hospital was a bit cooler recently but-
.. Around the time I came in. [ That's why Duke was carrying the sheet over a shoulder, rather than in a wad. Why Duke is still carrying that sheet, actually.
And here the knight's brain catches up with the situation. Delicately putting that marker down. ]
no subject
[Colin looks to Yukio.]
Let it never be said that paranoia doesn't have its advantages.
Duke, we're going to need to examine you. ... I'm sorry, this probably won't be pleasant. At the very least, we're going to need a blood sample.
no subject
Yukio's up and out of his seat before Duke can respond, setting about gathering supplies they'll need for an examination. Hmm, are there syringes in here? Yes, they should be around somewhere- ah, there they are.]
We'll make it as simple as possible.
no subject
[ Duke isn't used to the idea of needing blood for anything, but is fairly used to the idea of "do what the doctor / healer says to do".
Doesn't stop the "Ah, crap" sort of expression though, as the knight rolls up a sleeve. ]
no subject
Blood, however... Yeah, that's something else entirely.
[Colin sighs.]
Yukio, can you draw the blood? I need to prep some experimental and observational equipment.
[He's also never drawn blood before. But... you don't say that in front of a patient.]
no subject
[Luckily for Duke, Yukio's a pro at drawing blood. He's got everything he needs ready to go fairly quickly, motioning for Duke to sit in a nearby chair once he's ready.]
Have a seat, please. You've never had blood taken for medical reasons before?
[Because while Yukio is just as serious about this plague and quarantine situation as Colin, his bedside manner is still intact.]
no subject
[ And here's Duke taking that seat. Have fun with a really pale arm, at least it makes finding a vein easier.... ]
It just made sense. Neck would be uncomfortable, and thigh is harder to get at. [ Those are messiest when cut, after all. ]
no subject
[He's busily setting up the equipment to study blood tests. Sadly, they don't have a proper phlebotomy lab, so... yeah, barracks science is a go.]
It's just a quick poke with a needle, right?
no subject
Keep your arm held out straight and still and we'll be finished pretty quickly. Any pain should be minimal, if you feel anything at all.
[He's pretty confident in his skills here, so there'll be no digging around to find the right spot. Once he's got the needle inserted it'll only be a matter of thirty seconds or so before he draws it out again and presses a small gauze pad to the puncture.]
no subject
Watching it was weirder than feeling it.
[ Want Duke to hold that gauze in place Yukio, so you can go and do doctory things? ]
