Three days ago, Colin introduced his new buildings to the Bastion. This morning, the lab's work had finally come to fruition. Colin brought a slab of skillet-ready bacon to the kitchen, first thing in the morning. The kitchen was freshly upgraded, how fitting it would be to have it broken in with fresh meat?

Rin had been apprehensive at first. Artificial meat couldn't be good, could it? But that apprehension seemed to melt away gradually like so much fat off of sizzling meat as the bacon cooked.

So, when everyone shows up for breakfast, there's a giant serving platter loaded down with bacon to go along with the rest of the breakfast for the day.

Go nuts, everyone.

[ Her stomach does the answering for her on that question. It makes a loud growling noise. Kohaku blushes. That was embarrassing. ]

[That gets Rin to laugh.]

I'll take that as a yes. Y'like bacon at all? We got a ton of it now.

[ She laughs a little, too. ]

Y-Yeah ... I'd like it better with miso on it, but we can't really be picky here, can we?

Miso? Mn... I haven't had miso since I got here. We could probably get some here later, though.

[ Oh no, you said exactly what she needed to hear. Look at the sparkle in those eyes. Look at it. ]

Really?! We could?!

[ IT WOULD MAKE HER HAPPIER. ]

Well. Yeah. I guess no one's told you about the shards yet?

[ She shakes her head. ]

When I got here I was injured, so ... the guys who helped me to the hospital were pretty preoccupied with just getting me help and telling me just the basic things. Which I'm grateful for. Really.

[ Even if it did send her into a state of moping for a while. ]

Ohh... okay, that makes sense. Yuki was sayin' he actually had a patient in the hospital recently.

Good to see you're up and on your feet again though!

[spiria]

[ She laughs a little. ]

My injuries really weren't that bad ... I just ran into some trouble while finding my way here, is all.

[ She's got a particularly nasty scar on her arm, though. It's barely seeable through her ripped sleeve. ]

That happens a lot.

That doesn't sound too good ...

But yes, please! Food!

[ Her stomach is talking more! That's embarrassing. ]

There's plenty here! Just dig right in. I can make more later if I need to.

[ WELL THAT WAS AN INVITATION. She tries not to be a total pig about it, though, so she takes a little and tries to eat it like a normal person. Not a totally hungry person. No, like a normal person eating. ]

[Sorry Kohaku, Rin is laughing at you a little. Even with restraint she can just tell.]

With as loud as your stomach was talkin' I ain't surprised at how hungry you are!

[ She smiles sheepishly in-between all of this. ]

S-Sorry ... I was trying not to be rude.

It's okay! I know how it is. You're lucky to be here now, when we've got a lot more food than we used to.

Ugh ... it must have been really hard before. Not having enough food is terrible.

There was a lotta stuff we didn't have, so... yeah. It was pretty tough. It has gotten better, though. I mean, as good as you can get for...

[waving a hand around to indicate "living here"]

Mhm ... It's actually pretty amazing, what all has been done here given the circumstances.

Uhuh. It's been a lotta work but... we're rebuildin'. That's the important thing.

Hey, everythin' taste okay? The meat is sort of a new thing so I wanna make sure people like it.

[spiria]

It's delicious! The new thing is pretty good.

That's good.

[She'll have to tell Colin then.

While being all tsun about it.

So how did we suddenly get the meat? I mean ... it's not like there's a lot of animals around here that we could get it from ...

[ We're not eating Skyway monsters, are we? ]

[You're about two months too late for that, Kohaku.]

Uhm. Colin kinda made... well "fake" meat ain't really the right word for it but it's also not from any animal, so...

[Science! That thing other people understand better than Rin does.]

... So how is it made?
