Three days ago, Colin introduced his new buildings to the Bastion. This morning, the lab's work had finally come to fruition. Colin brought a slab of skillet-ready bacon to the kitchen, first thing in the morning. The kitchen was freshly upgraded, how fitting it would be to have it broken in with fresh meat?

Rin had been apprehensive at first. Artificial meat couldn't be good, could it? But that apprehension seemed to melt away gradually like so much fat off of sizzling meat as the bacon cooked.

So, when everyone shows up for breakfast, there's a giant serving platter loaded down with bacon to go along with the rest of the breakfast for the day.

Go nuts, everyone.

Yeah, he's like super smart. ... and kind of a pain in the ass. But whatever, he's still helpful.

Kinda like how someone can be a good person but also the biggest pain, huh.

That would be my brother.

I feel sorry for the people related to Colin.

Is he really that much of a pain? He seemed really nice when he was helping me.

... you'll learn. Trust me.

I'm sure I will, If I'm going to be here for a while ...

Well, we all are. But that's besides the point. He's a good guy, he's been helpin' us a lot here, but he's always so damn cocky about it.

[spiria]

So he's really confident in his own abilities?

[hellpyre]

He's confident that he's always gonna win. No matter what. And that there's no force in this universe than can keep him down. It's bullshit! I'M not even that arrogant!

[spiria]

You have to admit, though, keeping an attitude like that is kind of admirable. I mean, sure, sometimes you have to accept that there are limitations in the world that'll keep you down, but to have that amount of confidence all the time ...

It's kind of enviable.

[hellpyre]

That's just it! He never accepts stuff like that! You'd think he would, even once, but no it's always all this crap about how he wins against the universe every time!

[spiria]

... That's a lot of confidence.

[hellpyre]

I know, right?! It's ridiculous! I have a big ego but even I know you gotta lose some time!

[spiria]

... still admirable. It's good to be aware of your limitations, but wouldn't it be nice to have that much confidence in yourself? To never fear what might happen and go into everything with the idea that you'll come out victorious for sure?

[hellpyre]

Yeah but imagine what happens the day he finally does fail and it all goes to shit. I wouldn't wanna be in his shoes when that goes down.

[spiria]

... We'll just have to be there for him if it ever happens. Like we are for everyone else here, right?

[ She's hopeful about that. ]

[hellpyre]

... I... guess...

[As much as she tries to deny it, Colin is a friend.]

[spiria]

[ she smiles a little. ]

I-I mean, we're all we have left here and all ... so it's especially important that we all take care of each other. I think so, anyway ...

[hellpyre]

That's-- ... I mean he does help a lot. I can't be that mad at him...

[spiria]

I might just be a little biased in my view of him. He did help me when I first got here and all. I really don't know him as well as you do.

[hellpyre]

... that's true. I've had to deal with him a lot longer. Our first few meetings didn't go all that great.

[spiria]

Really? He seemed really nice when I first met him. I was also hurt, though, so maybe that had something to do with it.

[hellpyre]

Probably. He does like helpin' people, so that's one thing goin' for him.

[spiria]

See, that's a good thing!

[hellpyre]

It is.

[But that still means admitting Colin isn't as much of a pain as she thinks he is.]
