Day 162 | [OPEN] Swing me these sorrows, and try delusion for a while
Who: Rin Okumura, a certain exorcist, and you
When: Day 162
Where: The Skyway Entrance/Exit
What: It was only a matter of time before some one fell...
Format: Action
Warnings: Character death
[It shouldn't have gone this way...
It shouldn't have happened...
Some one may have gone down for good eventually, actually taken out on the Skyway instead of just vanishing like so many others, but it shouldn't have been her.
And yet it had happened.
A Gasfella of a different color, bigger than any Rin had seen before. Faster, stronger, hitting harder than even two demon exorcists could handle.
And it wouldn't listen to Rin, no matter how much she tried to talk it down. That was what Coin had been encouraging, right? Too bad it didn't work.
They tried to run. Tried, and failed. They were on the end of a losing battle. Night was sporting multiple gashes across her body, and had been knocked around several times. Rin had nearly lost her right arm, making swinging her sword difficult. She had been tossed through two stone walls hard enough to break both of them. So they ran, trying to get back to the Bastion before this two on one battle became even more messy.
But one wrong turn, one poorly chosen direction, and they were cornered.
That's where it had all gone wrong. Night had put herself in front of Rin in spite of her screaming protests. She couldn't fight back, there wasn't enough room, and burning the bastard wasn't working. She put her sword up to block the swings of that massive axe. Hit by too powerful hit, the sword began to crack.
Rin screamed. Begged for Night to stop, to put her blade down so they could run.
Night looked back at her.
A sad smile.
"You've got some one to go back to, don'tcha kid?"
The blade shattered, and Night collapsed in front of her, body still.
Rin could barely remember what happened after that. For several minutes she just... raged. Out of control, howling with anger and tears as she launched herself at the Gasfella. Her fire didn't do much more damage than Night's had, but her frenzied attacks must have gotten to it because eventually it did flee, floating off in a manner that was almost limping.
It took her a long time to calm down after that. Wounds were healing, but her head was spinning and her eyes burned with tears. She eventually found enough strength in her legs again to return to Night, but her body was cold, and the sword lay in shattered pieces around her. Rin touched a piece, but it was as if the demonic enchantment on the blade had been shattered as well. The steel felt just as cold, and the edges were no longer sharp.
She couldn't be dead she just couldn't be dead. Rin refused to believe it. She had to get her back, back to the Bastion. Some one there had to help her.
Slowly, she gathered up the shards, and though she trembled and sobbed, she lifted Night's body in to her arms and stumbled away from that corner they had hidden in. She limped her own way back to the Bastion, taking the pathway back to the Bastion where she landed with Night still in her arms where she fell to her knees and screamed.]

SOME ONE HELP! PLEASE!

Everythin' changed so suddenly when we were seven. And the next thing I knew, she was the one keepin' me at arm's length. At home and at school she didn't really act any different, but I could tell there was somethin' more goin' on than she ever let on.
... it killed me a little. I thought I'd done somethin' wrong. I didn't know back then that she knew exactly what I was, and was just waitin' for the day it'd all be out in the open.
She... she was waitin' for the day she'd be forced to kill me...
no subject
...but you didn't, Rin-chan. You didn't do anything wrong, you can't help being who you are. And if anyone should understand that...
...couldn't she have refused?
[Tama-chan wriggles a bit and rolls over, resting her head on Rin's chest]

[Rin let her hand rest on Tama-chan again, staring at the far wall distantly.]
That's just how it was. I am-- ... was dangerous. No one knew what was gonna happen when my powers finally came out.
Tellin' Mephisto that I wanted to become an exorcist was the only way I was able to save myself from that. They woulda killed me right there otherwise.
Yuki could see demons from the time we were born. I think Dad knew that really, she wanted to protect me, but the only way she could do anythin' for ether of us was for her to become an exorcist.

...and she couldn't just, I don't know. Freelance? Do they have freelance exorcists, where you're from?
[resumes picking through the tangles again, unable to say much else. It's just... it's so unfair.]

[Rin shakes her head]
No. All the trainin' comes straight outta the Order. Everythin' Yuki learned, she learned from Dad. And he was the Paladin.

...what if she were to quit? What if you guys all quit? Get as far as you need to go and start up your own exorcism firm. Exorcists'R'Us.
[he realises he's thinking of it in his own terms. People intern with fashion houses then start their own brands all the time...]
It's just unfair, Rin-chan. I mean, I know you don't need me to tell you that, but... it just is
no subject
The Order would have them hunted down and both killed within less than a week...]
Life isn't fair, Kaoru... just because you got to be surrounded by riches doesn't mean the rest of us can have that kind of life. If it was fair... if it was fair Dad wouldn't have been killed by Satan. Our mother wouldn't have died at all. I never would have been born like... like this.
[If life was fair... she'd know why Shiro saved her at all.]
no subject
...I said I wasn't going to ask. But I'm worried about you.
no subject
It's not like Rin was ever destined for a privileged life.]
... she was the closest thing I had to family here.
no subject
...I know she was, Rin-chan. I'm sorry...
no subject
[But that's not going to happen.]
I don't know... I don't know if I'm gonna be okay...

[urgh, he can't really help, but he doesn't want to have this conversation with the back of Rin's head. He carefully slips off the bed and back to her side again. He's only known Night since he got here; not as long as Rin, and it's still a little hard for him.]

The tears are falling again, hands rubbing uselessly at her eyes since she can hardly move well enough to do so.
Maybe she will be okay eventually, but right now... ?]
no subject
...it's okay for things not to feel right, right now.

It lasts a while, but soon enough another headache sets in and she can't keep going even if she wanted to. The tears stop, the noises quiet, and she just lays there sniffling and hiccuping quietly.]

...you wanna try to sleep? [massaging her head gently] I can get something from Seimei if you need...

You want me to go right now?
no subject
Yeah... Tama-chan can stay with me...

I'll be here. Not goin' anywhere.
