Day 162 | [OPEN] Swing me these sorrows, and try delusion for a while
Who: Rin Okumura, a certain exorcist, and you
When: Day 162
Where: The Skyway Entrance/Exit
What: It was only a matter of time before some one fell...
Format: Action
Warnings: Character death
[It shouldn't have gone this way...
It shouldn't have happened...
Some one may have gone down for good eventually, actually taken out on the Skyway instead of just vanishing like so many others, but it shouldn't have been her.
And yet it had happened.
A Gasfella of a different color, bigger than any Rin had seen before. Faster, stronger, hitting harder than even two demon exorcists could handle.
And it wouldn't listen to Rin, no matter how much she tried to talk it down. That was what Coin had been encouraging, right? Too bad it didn't work.
They tried to run. Tried, and failed. They were on the end of a losing battle. Night was sporting multiple gashes across her body, and had been knocked around several times. Rin had nearly lost her right arm, making swinging her sword difficult. She had been tossed through two stone walls hard enough to break both of them. So they ran, trying to get back to the Bastion before this two on one battle became even more messy.
But one wrong turn, one poorly chosen direction, and they were cornered.
That's where it had all gone wrong. Night had put herself in front of Rin in spite of her screaming protests. She couldn't fight back, there wasn't enough room, and burning the bastard wasn't working. She put her sword up to block the swings of that massive axe. Hit by too powerful hit, the sword began to crack.
Rin screamed. Begged for Night to stop, to put her blade down so they could run.
Night looked back at her.
A sad smile.
"You've got some one to go back to, don'tcha kid?"
The blade shattered, and Night collapsed in front of her, body still.
Rin could barely remember what happened after that. For several minutes she just... raged. Out of control, howling with anger and tears as she launched herself at the Gasfella. Her fire didn't do much more damage than Night's had, but her frenzied attacks must have gotten to it because eventually it did flee, floating off in a manner that was almost limping.
It took her a long time to calm down after that. Wounds were healing, but her head was spinning and her eyes burned with tears. She eventually found enough strength in her legs again to return to Night, but her body was cold, and the sword lay in shattered pieces around her. Rin touched a piece, but it was as if the demonic enchantment on the blade had been shattered as well. The steel felt just as cold, and the edges were no longer sharp.
She couldn't be dead she just couldn't be dead. Rin refused to believe it. She had to get her back, back to the Bastion. Some one there had to help her.
Slowly, she gathered up the shards, and though she trembled and sobbed, she lifted Night's body in to her arms and stumbled away from that corner they had hidden in. She limped her own way back to the Bastion, taking the pathway back to the Bastion where she landed with Night still in her arms where she fell to her knees and screamed.]

The completely idiotic thing she said before comes back to her, about people who fall on the Skyway being fools. She wants to take it back and apologize for not knowing any better, but this isn't about her.
She quickly closes the rest of the distance and crouches down in front of Rin.]
We need to get you both to a healer.
[Obviously, but she feels like she needs to say it aloud to keep her head. Rin doesn't look like she's in much condition to walk, much less carry someone, and Zuko reaches out to try to take the other girl from her. That's when she realizes, it's too late for one of them. Is Rin even aware of it?
...the fact stands, it'll be easier for Rin to get help if she's not carrying the body.]
Let me take her.
no subject
[Still, when he hears that scream, he moves out of habit. Zuko is there first, but Zulf is soon there right after. He's not even that close when his eyes land on the body in Rin's arms and understanding flashes through his eyes.]
[Zulf is far too familiar with the dead to be unable to recognize them when he sees them.]
[He comes to stand besides the two women, gaze heavy and brows drawn together. One hand goes to Rin's arms, gently encouraging her to let go and surrender the body to Zuko. The other goes up to her face to cup her cheek- the cultural significance of that will go right past her but that's alright. He just wants to offer her some comfort. When she finally realizes- or perhaps lets herself realize- what's happened to Night, she's going to need it.]
no subject
And she was pretty damn loud when the moment called for it.
Zuko was first, and right then that conversation was furthest from Rin's mind. She heard her words, but some part of them wasn't registering fully. Healer? For both of them? Would that even work? She just looked at the other girl, absolutely stricken, the only pain she felt currently being the emotional kind.
Then Zulf was there, touching her arm, her face, not saying anything but obviously trying to get her to understand... something
No. No no no it was all wrong it was all wrong--]
Her sword broke!
[Her voice comes out in the same shrill pitch that she'd screamed at, tears falling heavy down her cheeks. The shards of the blade had been wrapped up in the bottom of Night's long skirt in order to carry them back, the handle wrapped in Night's hand with the shattered tip visible.]
Sh... she was just tryin' to protect me! She doesn't need a healer, she needs her sword fixed! Please! Do something!
[She wasn't even thinking about herself, her wounds, the fact that her nearly-taken-off right arm and her broken left wrist really should have prevented her from carrying anything, and how her legs were a mess of deep gashes, scrapes and bruises beneath her skirt.
No, she was entirely fixated on Night, and going on about a sword as if that would make any bit of difference. Never mind that to anyone not up on demon lore she probably sounded insane with grief.]

taking care of the body :<
She glances after them, towards the hospital, and then looks to Zulf.]
...where should I take her until the funeral?
[Colin clearly said to take her to the hospital, but that seems strange to Zuko. In her family, this burden fell to the Fire Sages.]
no subject
[He has no idea what Colin could want to do to the body but as of right now, he's one of their more intelligent residents.]
[With no small amount of reluctance, he points in the direction of the hospital only to hold his hand up in the almost universal gesture of 'wait'. They don't want to go there too quickly when Rin is still in the state she's in. Just a moment, and then they'll follow to find a place to gently place Night in one of the hospital's many rooms.]
[Following the 'wait' gesture is another one, two fingers held up before they snap together and point in the direction of the shrine again.]
[How good are you at charades, Zuko?]
no subject
Zuko thought she was following until that last gesture, but now she's about back to her original question. Make up your mind, Zulf.]
What was that about the shrine?

Looking For Help

[ The knight steps out from the training building and nearly into the running Ippo. ]
You're going to need help too, if you keep it up.

Later in the evening | Hospital
So many others before her had simply vanished. Lost, with no trace of them to be found.
Night was their first true death.
Needless to say, Rin wasn't handling it well.
With the hospital no longer in chaos from her arrival, Rin had been left with her bandaged shoulder, legs and left wrist in a sling. She was healing, thankfully, with the help from the others. It would be a longer recovery time than what she was used to, but she'd be back on her feet soon enough.
Physically, anyway.
Emotionally...
Well there was a reason she was staring at the wall with a blank expression...]

Hilda now made her way to the hospital with Zorua in her arms, who didn't quite understand why Mama was so serious today. She'd heard that Rin was in the hospital and had definitely known the deceased, so she wanted to drop by and see how her friend was doing. Once she came to the room, she poked her head inside before coming in all the way. ]
Rin ...?
[ From her arms, Zorua watched the other person, a tiny whine coming from her. This person was more sad than Mama was ... ]

Not enough to sit up when Hilda came in, so all the girl would get in response is a muffled reply.]

There is a glass dragon working her way over, perching out of the way to inspect the girl in the bed for a moment.
Then Chime lands in Rin's lap. There's a moment, if Rin takes it, to look at the little glass dragon and see several small flower blossoms in her belly, before the dragon retches.
And now there is a little flame shaped bit of glass, with a pretty little wildflower in it.

I brought you a change of clothes, for when you're ready to go home.

Yeah, he's not addressing the elephant in the room yet.]

He knocks twice, before going ahead and opening the door anyway. If it were him in there, he wouldn't bother calling out for anyone to come in.
