[Day 157] MEANWHILE, IN THE BASTION...
Who: Everyone who didn't go to the Observatory
Open: Open
When: Early on Day 157
Where: The apartment building, specifically Nathaniel's place
What: Plot Things for the non-exploration type
Format: action
Warnings: none
[So. A bunch of people left the Bastion on Day 156 to go to the Observatory, get some things, and possibly kill a giant plant. But not everyone went. In fact, there are a lot of people still in the Bastion, for various reasons.
And on the night of Day 156, when most people were sleeping, someone broke into Nathaniel's room and tore the place apart.
They were quiet about it, so as to keep people from stumbling upon them while they work, but they did not even try to hide the mess. They left Nathaniel's door and window open, and anyone who goes in will find everything in shambles. Things on the floor, tables overturned, dishes broken, and so forth. Whoever did this, they did a thorough job of looking through every nook and cranny in the apartment.
Nathaniel is off at the Observatory, so he can't react to the mess, and whoever did this is long gone by morning. However, other people can come across this mess and try to figure out what the hell happened. Especially if they live in the Apartments, as anyone who lives in there has to walk by the open door to leave the building.]

It had been an easy move. It wasn't like they had much, and most had been packed a half a dozen wooden crates from the kitchen and taken over. They had been done before it had even gotten dark, and settled in relatively soon after that.
But of course everyone leaves something behind when going from one place to another, and the following morning Rin realized that she had set her sword harness (but thankfully not her swords) aside while packing and never picked it back up again.
Cursing under her breath when she realized it wasn't there, she haphazardly threw some clothes on and headed down there a little after Bon had left for his morning run around the Bastion, fighting yawns and rubbing at her eyes. Sharing a bed with some one hadn't been a terrible experience, but she didn't sleep as well as she normally would have. It was just going to take some getting used to, after all.
She figured she'd be in and out, and the would be the last she'd need from her old place before she could let it be used by some other new arrival, but walking in found a disturbing sight - Nathaniel's door wide open across the hall from her place, a knocked over lamp giving off eerie flickers of light from the floor.]
... what the hell... ?

Rin is already standing before the open door when Zia enters the building. Nothing looks terribly amiss until she scurries over.]
Hey, Rin! I— [Oh. Look at that.
Zia stops short and spends a moment gaping at the wreck. Eyes wide, she turns to Rin.]
What...what happened?
no subject
She still doesn't turn at Zia's voice, though, simply shaking her head slowly.]
... that's... Nathaniel's apartment...
no subject
I'm—going to get some of the others. Something's wrong.
[Stuffing the note into one of her pockets (this is no time for food!), Zia scampers back outside in search of anyone meandering about for her to chase down.]
no subject
[That's all Rin can really say. She glances over, watching Zia leave silently.
She should stay out, just in case, but morbid curiosity pushes her in to the room carefully. She steps over the broken, trashed items tossed about, scowling more and more as she looks a the mess.
If they -- whoever "they" were -- had done this with the intent to steal things, why trash it this badly? And why did it look like nothing was taken, just broken and left on the ground?]
no subject
By the way, the bookshelf is particularly trashed. Whoever was in there went through the bookshelf very meticulously, leaving no book unopened.
The rest of the apartment is trashed in a more haphazardly way.]

Whoa there, miss! [He gives a relaxed and friendly grin. Despite knowing more or less the truth about the Calamity now after Raile's little announcement, Georges... really wants to believe in the best of things. Zia definitely doesn't look like she'd ever hurt a fly.] What's the rush, is the Bastion on fire?
no subject
The apartments—Nathaniel's apartment got broken into. [She's trying to get the words out as fast as she can, but all that scurrying has left her a little winded.] It's completely torn apart. Something's wrong.

Did anything get stolen?

Well, this certainly makes a person and her belongings feel safe.

It had to happen last night, then, wouldn't it? [Why was Saix at the apartments last night before this could have happened? Eh. You know.]
no subject
What if they'd tried to come and take my things? Fat lot of help you'd have been.
[She pushes at his shoulder.]
no subject
What would they have stolen from you, your supply of condoms? In fact, most of us don't have anything worth stealing.
[It's the end of the world. The nicest things most of them have gotten were from the festival and even then most of those were more sentimental that Saix could see. So the question is... Saix makes a gesture and a mental command to the Berserker Nobody waiting outside. After a second, the large Nobody appears inside with a camera in its large hands that Saix takes.]
[He'll pay you back later, Roxas, but right now he doesn't want to bother with niceties like asking.]
I wonder what Nathaniel has worth stealing. Or... "had" as the case might be.
no subject
[Screw you, Saix, she totally has something worth stealing.]
I don't know. Wasn't he in some sort of fight recently?
Where did you get the camera?
no subject
[These are the kinds of conversations he has now. Yep. At least it's still better than dealing with most of his dead coworkers. He takes a picture of the mess from the doorway and then starts to step inside.]
Yes, but from what I understood, both of them went to the Observatory with that large party. [Click.] As for this, it belongs to someone I know. We might as well document everything before anyone else comes to make more of a mess.
no subject
[It's Anya. If she considered vibrators to be relevant, of course she would talk about hers in public.
She steps in after him, being careful not to trip over anything.]
Do you enjoy playing detective?
no subject
That's after we find out just what was so important for them to find. Nathaniel was one of the first people here, wasn't he?

She finds the place easily enough, and it's easy to see why people are concerned. Still, she balks a little at taking a closer look, lingering around the door itself and anybody else who's gathered there.]
Is it okay to just go in?
no subject
[Well well, that certainly is a familiar face stepping out from the bathroom area although he isn't currently clad in his usual Organization coat. And... huh, Saix's eyes weren't always mismatched, were they? One the usual gold and the other a kind of teal.]
[Unlike Roxas, when he glances over Xion, there's no recognition in his gaze. No dismissive disdain. Just a slight frown and a quirk of his eyebrows.]
Who are you?
no subject
Still. She doesn't relax that much.]
I- [She swallows] Xion.
[She wants to back up she wants to hide she wants to leave but she doesn't want to draw any more attention to herself than she already has.]
no subject
[Saix's eyes narrow almost suspiciously at the reaction he gains and the name she gives. It's not familiar. Considering she's wearing one of the Organization coats, it should be although he knows that others wear them on occasion as well.]
Kairi already has a Nobody- Namine. So clearly you don't belong.
...But I suppose that is an issue that can be addressed at a later date. There's something potentially more pressing we need to deal with.
no subject
But... he was right. More important things.]
Right. [She looks around at the room itself, turning away and trying to distract herself with the small details]
What... what happened?
[She only just got here, the situation is leaving her a bit confused]
no subject
You never met Nathaniel, I'm assuming. He's one of the original inhabitants of this World and the individual responsible for keeping the Bastion in check. This is his room.
[So someone breaking in to rifle about... A bit concerning.]
no subject
Then why would somebody want to break in and mess it up like this?
no subject
There could be any number or reasons. The emotions of people are strange things.
That's why it's vital that this place be gone through to make sure there's no hints to the cause.
