day 64 | action | open
Who: Night & YOU
Open: Open
When: Day 64
Where: Around the apartment.
What: Night tries to recover from the news she was dealt the day before.
Format: Action log, but I'll follow whatever format.
Warnings: Language
[After everything that happened yesterday Night found it nigh impossible to fall asleep and wound up staring out her window until the sun rose. By that point she was already outside, her coat left behind in her room but her red sword case slung over her back, like always. She kept her amulet hung around her neck, one hand idly toying with it as she walked around the apartment building.
Not too long into her explorations she finds herself at a river. Normally this wouldn't give her reason to pause, but two things happen here: 1) the familiar glimmer of fish scales tempt her from under the water and 2) her stomach growls. So to answer the siren's call of both her stomach and the river's invitation Night sets down her sword case off to the side and steps closer to the water.
She climbs up on a rock and peers into the water and pulls back her long mane of dark hair so that it doesn't touch the water. With eyes wide and pupils dilated she raises an arm and with lightning-quick reflexes she dives her hand into the water and pulls out a small fish, caught in her grasp. She looks pretty excited about this.]
Hell yeah-! [Until the fish smacks her in the face, surprising her enough to let her drop it back into the water. Damn.]

Kohai has noticed your fishing antics, Night, what do?]
Hey!
[Kohai has offered one (1) NET. Da na na naaaa.]
Here, this will make it easier.
no subject
Okay not really. Night rubs her face where the fish smacked her, looking a little miffed by it, but she perks up when Maka offers her the net.]
Oh hey, thanks! [She gives it a curious once over. Then something hits her and the doofy smile falters.] Ah... Do you go fishing a lot?
no subject
[He'd probably start tinkering with fish traps eventually, if he found a book on making them.]
You're a new arrival, right? [He didn't sense her around. It hasn't occurred to him that it's because demons don't have souls, bless.] I'm Maka.
no subject
Yeah. [She twirls the net between both hands.] You can call me Night. How long have you been here?
no subject
[In that they were running for their lives, yep. He shifts his weight from one foot to the other before deciding on kneeling down, watching the river for glimmers of fish.]
There's a fat one coming up here, it looks pretty sluggish.
no subject
Night watches him, strands of hair falling in her face. She doesn't bother to push them back.
She follows his gaze, eyes already locking onto the noted fish. At first she readies herself to catch it with her hand like before, forgetting about the offered net. When it comes close enough she strikes at it, sharp claws gripping it tightly to ensure that this time it wouldn't get away.
Don't mind the slight fish and guts there, Maka.] Hell yeah!
no subject
he seems very unperturbed by the fact that someone just killed something with their bare hands right in front of him.]
You're pretty good!
no subject
no subject
[But he's okay when Rin cooks it.
Speaking of--wait a minute, this lady does look kind of like--]
Err...I don't know how to say this without being offensive, but...are you a demon? And are you aware that you look like Rin?
no subject
[She moves back to the water to wash off what was left on her hand. At Maka's question she looks up at him.]
Huh? Oh, yeah I am. And I guess we do. It's a little weird, huh? Does that make you nervous?
no subject
[Rin is Rin, Night is Night, facetwins is not the strangest thing he's encountered in Bastion.]
It's not...that weird. There are two other survivors from my world, they say I'm supposed to be a girl.
[...And that still makes him flush horribly because seriously? A girl? How much worse must her life be having an idiot father like his?]
no subject
Oh? A girl? [Curious look.] Man, everyone seems to be taking this whole end of the world thing pretty well, huh... [She says it mostly to herself, voice wavering.] Did you all arrive here together?
no subject
[BLUNT.]
You seem perfectly nice to me.
[Granted this is a guy that trusts everyone that seems nice at first. He sighs, tugging at some grass and tossing it into the river.]
No, they arrived after me...one of my friends was so upset when he saw that I wasn't "his" Maka, he attacked me. That was scary, but at the same time I understand...I'd be upset too if someone I thought I knew turned out to be...well, not them. [even though his friends are his friends no matter how their appearance changes.]
no subject
But she smiles briefly.] You seem pretty cool yourself.
[Hands washed she sits back on the rock, legs crossed under her.] That's still very strange. How can you be different from what they remember? Hm... [There were still many things she still doesn't understand about this place.] Are you on better terms with them now?
no subject
[But she's not here.
Ugh, Maka wasn't going to think about this again, it just makes him depressed.]
--Hmm...because they know me as a girl? I don't know how it is with demons, but humans tend to, uh...place different expectations on you depending on your gender. People expected me to be like my father back in my world--even though he's a perverted asshole and I hate him--I should hope that expectation wasn't put on my female counterpart.
[That sounds like it'd be a lot nicer, actually, but girls have different troubles to contend with and he's well aware of that.]
I think...things are about as "well" between us as they're going to be. They know that just because I'm a guy doesn't mean my soul is any different from the Maka that they know, so...that's something?
[Still awkward, though.]
no subject
Ah, I've noticed that! I mean, how humans look at gender... It's still really strange to me. Where I'm from it doesn't really mean anything unless you're looking to breed, but... [A shrug.] You also have a strange way of looking at romance too. It's so weird! [At this she laughs a little.]
Gender doesn't change someone, but I doubt that means much coming from someone who's never seen it as something as an important factor. [She reaches down to pluck some grass next to the rocks.]
That's something! I'm glad you're doing well though. Especially in a situation like this.
no subject
Hmm...human romance is pretty weird, yeah. [Obviously he's a total expert on it.
But that sort of talk aside, Maka smiles sheepishly.] I'm doing what I can, that's all I can think to do.
no subject
no subject
[...Cough.]
And humans don't really...talk about their...breeding activities openly.
[Basically Mr. Prude over here is embarrassed.]
no subject
For now.]
That's alright! I figure there's still a lot for me to learn about your kind so I shouldn't expect to understand everything right now. [Big bright smile.]
no subject
[But he's a kid. And all the adults around him are either stupid or crazy.
Or they were, at least.]
Anyway, do you mind if I ask some questions about what kind of demon you are? Rin has flames and her tail is--well, obvious, but what about you?
no subject
[Glances back to him.] I doubt she's ever had anyone tell her, but demons don't usually keep their tails out in plain sight. It's kinda a bad idea.
no subject
So you're...
[A KITTY?]
Actually a cat? [Forgive him, Father, he's incredibly gay for fuzzy.]
no subject
no subject
Maka it could be a horrifying demon kitty.
But kittyyyyyy--]
If that's okay with you.
no subject
[She leans back on the rock, almost falling back before -
POOF, small cloud of smoke and
Hello kitty.]
I'm not as big as some of my siblings, but I think I can hold my own pretty well.
no subject
Don't mind him if he sort of
reaches out and scritches her ears.]
Bigger or older doesn't always mean better, I'm one of the youngest in my class but I can still handle most everyone in a fight.
no subject
[Then don't mind her pushing herself against his hand for more petting.]
We're alike, then! Things like that make us stronger.
no subject
[But he's an only child, so he can't relate to the siblings part
unless Black*Star counts as some fucked up irresponsible older sister.Awww, kitty, have some scritches under the chin.
...It's shockingly easy to have friendly physical contact with a girl if she's actually a cat.]
What did you mean when you said that you "lived like a human" for ten years? [Nosy? Who's nosy?]
no subject
[Soft purring~]
Up until ten years ago I didn't have a human body to use and grow stronger with. It was necessary for me to get one if I wanted to become an exorcist. Before that this was my only form!
no subject
[He'll just settle into a petting pattern since she doesn't seem to mind it.]
I mean, you seem like a nice person and all, but considering you were born a demon I'm not certain that anybody would suggest that you go down that path.
no subject
[This is good.]
I did it to protect the person I love. [Loved; but she won't think like that right now.]
It isn't that all uncommon for halfbreeds to go into the Order business, like Rin! But I guess I'm a strange case. Not a lot of demons have a change of heart like I did.
no subject
Actually it sounds like a couple of books he's read--a creature that's alienated from its own species for one reason or another meets with a very kind human and falls in love with them. Swearing vengeance and/or protection against any demons that would seek to harm this loved one.
Who knew, it happens in real life.]
I suppose that's how it is when you find someone special like that.
no subject
She saved me. I owe her my life. [She would die for her if it came down to it - never mind the chance that Monaka is already dead and gone. The idea doesn't even strike her, mainly because she's forced herself to not think about that chance. It just isn't possible to her right now that her most important person is probably dead.]
no subject
He also has never seen this girl before, so what better time to introduce himself? He stands at the shore, and sympathetically calls out to her. While he doesn't fish, he knows disappointment.] Aw... you had it.
no subject
[She shoots a grin at him.] Want me to catch you one too?
no subject
no subject
no subject
[He smiles and shrugs.] I've never actually had fish, so I wouldn't know the best way of making it. ...do you mind if I watch?
no subject
[Well now she's determined.] If I catch you one you gotta at least try it when I cook it, yeah?
no subject
Besides, she's made a very gracious offer, and Osahar grins.] I promise that I'll try it. Just forgive me if I don't like it?
no subject
[Rin hadn't been looking for the demon, but she had been getting things from the store room when her path brought her by the river and the... very interesting scene happening there.]
no subject
She shoots a frown at Rin, wiping away fish slime off her face.] What?
no subject
We uhm. Have nets.
no subject
no subject
no subject
no subject
Except Rin already said they had nets, and she's going to go get one right now because what is this trapping with hands nonsense.]
