First Word :: Day 114

Where: The Bastion
What: Two new arrivals make their way in. One of them is a cute teenage girl. The other is a giant dragon.

[Sometime towards the end of Day 114, a few people watching the Skyway might notice something very big making its way towards the Bastion. Big and airborne, for that matter. It's upon the Bastion in very little time, an enormous wyvern if you want to be technical and simply dragon if you don't. When it lands at the entrance to the Bastion, the earth shakes a bit and it lowers its head...]

[Huh, that sure is a cute teenage girl seated on its neck.]

[Anyone particularly close might be able to hear a brief exchange between the two of them.]

Now we part ways. They would react better to you, I believe. Zu'u fen pek het. I will wait here.

Guess so, huh... Okay! We'll meet up later, then!

[With that, the girl sets off to investigate while the dragon waits near the Skyway as he observes from a distance.]

[Who do you approach?]

[Luckily for him, she neither has her sword on her nor has any desire to attack him. It helps that he doesn't appear to have any intentions of attacking either.

If anything her reaction is more of 'things I never thought I'd see' surprise, and it shows more when the corners of her mouth start to twitch up and she lets out a nervous sounding laugh.]

N-no that's okay! Just-- ... wow... wow. Y-you're like... a real live dragon, aren't you?

Yes. I am Paarthurnax, although some of the younger dov would call me Wuth Gein, Old One. [A rumbling kind of breath escapes him.] I understand my language can be difficult for mortal races on occasion.

[Aoi, after all, had shown just a bit of difficulty with it although she had grasped onto his name quickly enough.]

As eldest, I have given my name first. What of you, then?

[Yup, that was definitely a very real dragon. Nervous as she was to be in the presence of something so huge that wasn't a demon, her tail was still wagging excitedly because there was just something so damned cool about it at the same time.]

Uhm... R... Rin! I'm Rin Okumura. It's nice to meet you, Paar... thurnax?

[Aoi might have been able to get it, but Rin's version certainly comes out a little more... mangled.]

[wayofvoice]

[Ouch. He hasn't heard his name said this badly since... Well, it's been a very long time. Still, he won't fault her.]

Paarthurnax.

[He says it slowly, making the pronunciation more clear.]

[hellpyre]

Eheh... sorry. I'll get it eventually!

[Sorry, man. She's not really the brightest bulb out there. But she tries.

"Eventually" for her though could be weeks.]

[wayofvoice]

As I said- you may call me 'Old One' as well. It is a title I accept.

[After all, it is true. No other dragons 'lived' as long as he did, for they still had to await Alduin's return.]

Were you off someplace? [His head ducks down, a gesture towards the box she dropped.]

Oh... yeah, that'd be easier for me.

[The question got her attention back on what she had been carrying, prompting a frantic noise and a curse as she dropped to her knees and started digging through the mess to make sure none of the jars were broken.]

Yeah, I was goin' to the Distillery with these. That's where our kitchen is. You're... new here, yeah?

[Dumb question, but she answers herself a second later.]

Obviously, I've never seen a dragon before now. Have you talked to anyone else?

[wayofvoice]

I have.

[If Paarthurnax could help, he certainly would. However, while being a dragon is something he would never change, it does mean his size and lack of thumbs makes things difficult sometimes. So he just watches and stays out of the way.]

I arrived to your Bastion with a young human named Aoi, and have spoken to a mage named Tris. I admit there is still much I am curious about, however.

[She doesn't mind the lack of help. Getting stuff back to the Distillery will be a pain, but it's nothing she can't handle.

Luckily nothing besides the crate seems to be broken, which is a relief.]

Aoi... she must be new, too. I know Tris, though. I'unno if I can give you any more than she did, but you're welcome to ask any questions.

Kogaani. Are there any other landmasses besides this out in the void? You seem to have found enough supplies to keep this settlement prepared.

[hellpyre]

Just the Skyway, but sometimes there's enough land connected to it that we can find supplies out there. It's... been a struggle but we're doin' better than we were.

[wayofvoice]

I see. So this is the only haven for those not mere beasts. Daar los grotiin yor... I suppose I shall be staying here for some time, then, so long as my presence would not disturb or intrude.

[Being a giant dragon makes things... awkward sometimes. All the time.]

Well... we haven't turned anyone away yet. I don't see any reason to start now. It's not a big place but I think we could make room somewhere!

[wayofvoice]

I do not require much. Enough space to fit me is all I need.

[He'd like somewhere to perch, but, well, he also doesn't want to break anything. The mountains of Skyrim really were perfect in that aspect.]

[hellpyre]

I'm sure we can find somethin' for you here!

[Rin kind of really wants to keep the dragon ok]

It would be appreciated. Perhaps if I accompanied you to this... distillery, I may spot something.

[hellpyre]

Sure! I gotta get this stuff back there anyway.

[wayofvoice]

Rinik pruzah. Then I shall follow whenever you are ready.

[hellpyre]

[Rin nodded, gathering the jars up in her arms and standing. She couldn't get all of them, but they would be easy enough to come back for later.]

This way!

[wayofvoice]

[Paarthurnax follows after, taking great care to pass by the remaining jars so that his wings or tail would not knock them over. He's not the most elegant strider, having to use his wings to help him walk along ht eearth, but it still works.]

So, Rin Okumura, what tasks do you do in this bastion?

[It's nice that he's trying to be so cautious, though.]

Hm? Well I've been workin' in the kitchen mostly. The other woman who cooks is pregnant and can't be on her feet much.

[wayofvoice]

Bringing life even into a world so troubled? Su'um ahrk morah for her, then. Such things do not stop even for disasters such as these.

[hellpyre]

It happened before... and she lost her husband. But we're gonna do our best to help her.

Do you have healers amongst your ranks?

[He's pretty sure that's what you need when it comes to birth. Also midwives, maybe??? Listen, he is an old dragon who knows a lot of stuff but human birth is not his expertise, what do you want from him]

Yeah, we do. And we have a hospital now, too.

[More than once Rin had wished Yuki was there with them, but that was a thought she didn't want to linger on, even if Mirelle's pregnancy was a valid reason to bring it up.]
