Event: Core [Day 61]

For more details, or if you have any questions, please see the OOC post.

For this event, Player characters will be split into two groups: Group A and Group B. Group A consists of any characters who arrived in the Bastion before Day 61. Group B consists of any characters who arrived in the Bastion on Day 61. Please keep your posts to the threads that have the heading that corresponds to your respective group.

There are two goals that need to be met:

1: Group A must locate Group B and safely bring them to the Bastion.
2: Someone must bring the Core back to the Bastion.

The second goal is time sensitive. If the Core is not found in time, it will disappear from the Skyway.

This event will consist of free-form tagging. There is no set tagging order, so feel free to have your characters respond to occurrences as you see fit.

All important threads are listed below:

[Osahar's disoriented for more than most would be. He's not used to this level of brilliant light, and for a few long seconds, he's blinded. He tries to hold his arm to shade his eyes, but even still, it takes a few seconds for his eyes to adjust.

When they do, he's stunned at what he sees. This... looks a bit like Orphan. Dark rock and all that. But... as he looks around, it's clear that he's far above the surface now, with a warm breeze playing that he'd never feel on his home world.

There's no one around him, either. It's disorienting, and he's not sure where he is or how he got here. So he slowly walks around, eyes wide as he checks his gear and his surroundings.
]

...what happened...?

[personal profile] bastionpc 2013-04-27 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's ended up in what looks like a shopping district, but it is way, WAY low-tech compared to what he is used to. There's lots of little wooden stalls full of fruit and trinkets, and technology itself looks like it's reached flintlock guns and basic machines at the most.

There are also many statues around the area Osahar is in: men, women, and children, all mingling about, as if they were frozen in time in the middle of a normal day.

...huh... [Definitely not Orphan, then. He walks among the people, eyes wide as he considers them. Either someone's put a lot more effort into making an art exhibit than he'd ever do- it's happened, he hears, but he's never seen anything like it- or something really, really odd has happened. This is, of course, putting aside the flabbergasting notion of an open air market, which is as baffling a notion to him as geocentrism.

What draws his attention, of course, is the tech. He makes his way over to the machines, picking up a flintlock pistol with care. In all honesty, he can barely guess what it's for- if it wasn't for his computer supplying the helpful information, he'd be lost. This is all so... alien, to him.

After looking around a little more, he risks raising his voice. The quiet is just a little too eerie for him.
] ...hello? Is anyone there?

[Alucard awakens at the sound of someone's voice. Someone... unfamiliar. He opens his eyes and immediately regrets it, snapping them shut again to block out the light. It would have been bad enough after the time he spent in the castle - could have been days, could have been weeks; it didn't matter in a place surrounded by eternal night. But that was a pittance next to the the the time he had slept before that.

He hisses in pain when he tries to open his eyes to look for the source of the voice; understandable, given that this is the first time he and sunlight had been acquainted in over three centuries. Well, if the owner of that voice is hostile, and thinks him entirely vulnerable... Well, let's just say that they'll be in for a nasty surprise.]

[Hearing the hiss, Osahar turns to find out who it is. And, well... even with all of the things he's seen, this is a new one on him. Capes aren't exactly in style for most of the places he's been to, and the outfit in general is just... odd. So old-fashioned that Osahar can't even pin it down as such.

Just another unusual thing in a day of very unusual things. It- he?- looks human enough, though, so Osahar cautiously advances, his left hand resting on the plasma pistol at his hip. Not drawing it yet, of course, but just in case.

For the record, Osahar doesn't have much room to talk in the 'unusual' department. Between his bulky nanomesh space suit, energy pistol, tech glasses, and a wrist-mounted computer that catches the sunlight... yeah, he definitely sticks out here.
] Are you all right?

[Admittedly, capes aren't exactly a common fashion statement in Alucard's world, even amongst nobility. As he finally adjusts to the light enough to make out the human though - and though he smells a bit strange, there is no mistake that he is human - he thinks that the man's garb is far more unusual than his own. And the item his hand is resting on - a weapon most likely - is foreign to him as well.

Moving slowly as to not startle the man into attacking, the dhampire rises to his feet. He gives his new surroundings a cursory glance before finally replying.]

...I am fine. Simply unused to the sunlight.
buildingthefuture: (Looking at You)

[personal profile] buildingthefuture 2013-04-28 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
That makes two of us. [He mutters it under his breath, though. That's not really too big of a deal to him, and he certainly doesn't pick up on anything unusual about it.

The glance is worrisome, though. It seems like this man is just as new here as Osahar is- though he doesn't seem terribly worried. In a way, that's a good thing, since Osahar really doesn't want to deal with anyone else's problems when he's got a full plate of his own.

How to proceed, though? After a moment, the engineer awkwardly offers...
] My name is Osahar Solarin. Do you know where we are, or what happened?
superdrowningskills: (Neutral)

[personal profile] superdrowningskills 2013-04-28 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah. So the man is as baffled by the sudden change of location as he is; not terribly comforting, given how they seem to be surrounded by statues that seem far too realistic.]

...Alucard. Our present location is unknown to me, as is precisely how we arrived here.

[He looks around again warily. This is certainly not Wallachia... Not as he knew it. Nevertheless, if his experience is anything to go by, they are far from safe here.]

........However, I believe we would be wise to be cautious. The creature that petrified these poor souls may have yet to have moved on.
buildingthefuture: (Gazing)

[personal profile] buildingthefuture 2013-04-28 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Alucard? A strange name for a strange person, but it's not like Osahar can really point a finger at that. The far more worrisome thing is that Alucard both doesn't know where he is, and that he clearly doesn't belong here. Osahar had been hoping for a native to answer some of his questions, but Alucard is in the same boat that he is.

Not good. But they can work with this, hopefully. What does surprise him, though, is that Alucard speaks of these people as petrified, and that a creature did it. For Osahar, that's not really possible. But perhaps Alucard just means 'creature' in the sense of a person who doesn't deserve the title.
]

I agree. If you want to come along, it'd probably be safer to travel in a group. And I don't know about you, but I don't want this to be me. [He points to a statue with a sheepish grin. Maybe he and Alucard aren't natives here, but as far as Osahar's concerned, better to have an ally than to be alone.]

[personal profile] bastionpc 2013-04-28 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Travelling in a group is definitely a good idea. Though it isn't close, there is the sound of roars and growls in the distance, betraying the presence of monsters long before they arrive. Also there are a few Peckers lingering about, watching the pair curiously.

In addition, down the street from where the pair is, there is a faint glowing. It is partially obstructed by some fallen-over boxes, but it it still possible to see if they look in that direction.
]
superdrowningskills: (Hmm.)

[personal profile] superdrowningskills 2013-04-28 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[The word choice was quite deliberate since monster or that which was once human are both possibilities. Given the presence of the birds and the growls in the distance however... Regardless, it's not something Alucard believes is worth finding out on his own. Perhaps if he were in familiar territory he would have directed the human to a safer location and continued on alone.

He eyes the birds again.]

It would be unwise to move alone under these circumstances.

[That's all he says before beginning to move down the street in the direction of the glow. No need to say anything more; he's sure Osahar will follow on his own.]
buildingthefuture: (Armed and Ready)

[personal profile] buildingthefuture 2013-04-28 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... [Once he hears the creatures, he's instantly on alert. While aliens are unknown to him, he's dealt with bioengineered creatures in the past, and it's... not usually ended well. With the brilliant feathers on those birds, he's definitely on alert.

Which is great, because that means that he notices when Alucard moves off on his own. It's actually pretty rare that he's the one who has to follow, so for a moment, he's shocked. He follows quickly, though, and he notices that glow. Hopefully it's something good. Hopefully. If not, he's ready for the worst.
]
superdrowningskills: (Hmm.)

[personal profile] superdrowningskills 2013-04-28 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Anything that glows brightly enough to be noticed in the middle of the day is certainly worth investigating. Whether or not it happens to be dangerous, it will at the very least likely provide a clue to one of the many questions the duo has about the nature of this place.

Upon reaching the boxes, he takes one last survey of his surroundings. The birds have yet to become aggressive - a matter of time, he's sure - and Alucard would like to keep it that way as long as possible. Osahar has followed as expected as well. Good.

After a moment of consideration, he opts to simply walk around the boxes to investigate, prepared to take action if it happens to be dangerous. Any other way might draw unwanted attention, after all.]
buildingthefuture: (Danger Danger)

[personal profile] buildingthefuture 2013-04-28 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's a hope, at least. There are a lot of questions, and not very many answers that they can find. Hopefully that glow will provide some answers. Then again, knowing Osahar's luck, he'll only find more questions.

Still, he follows behind Alucard, keeping an eye on the birds and keeping his weapon drawn. Just in case. One can never be too careful. He keeps an eye on Alucard, though, and what he's going to find. The last thing he wants is to have someone conceal something from him, and he doesn't know Alucard well enough to know whether he would or not.
] What is it?

[personal profile] bastionpc 2013-04-28 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[It is a rather large crystal of some sort. It is big enough that one person would have to use both arms to carry it, though it seems to be floating and would likely be very light.

It is also giving off an electric field of some sort. When Alucard and Osahar approach, any electronics on their person would be instantly powered up to 100% just from the ambient energy it is giving off.

It's also worth noting that, as soon as the birds see the crystal, they caw loudly and fly off. They may or may not be planning things.
]
superdrowningskills: (So done with this...)

[personal profile] superdrowningskills 2013-04-28 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[The crystal is like nothing Alucard had ever seen before. He'd seen plenty of precious stones in his time, but none of them had been more than a fraction of this one's size, and even less of its power. He may not have any electronic devices, but that certainly doesn't stop him from noticing how the air here feels like it does during a lightning storm.

He looks up abruptly at the sound of the birds leaving, and narrows his eyes at their retreating forms. That's never a good sign...]

...Something that whatever may hold control here likely does not want found.
buildingthefuture: (Time for Thinking)

[personal profile] buildingthefuture 2013-04-29 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Cryptic, but not surprising. It's glowing in daylight, that must mean a lot of energy. And as Osahar approaches... he's not disappointed. It's a crystal, albeit of an odd shape- definitely manufactured, and definitely a power source of some sort.

Alucard might not have any electronics, but Osahar's got more than his fair share. When all of them start charging up, he freezes. For normal people, that's probably not going to be too much of a problem. For Osahar? He's worried that getting too close might short out his arm, let alone any other havoc that much energy might wreak.
]

Whatever it is, it's got a lot of power in it. Normally I'd think it's electric, but I don't know...

[He squints at it.] Wish I had my tools with me. That's important, whatever it is, but I don't want to move it unless I know what I'm dealing with and what it's for.

[Pause. Blink. Frown.] ...and how it got here. This is tech more like I'm used to, not what I've been seeing until now...

[personal profile] bastionpc 2013-04-29 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Suddenly a group of people come running up. Things are happening down here now.]
