[ New friends are good. Especially in a place where they all need to be working together. ]

[She pats the space next to her.]

My name is Jane. What's yours?

Kohaku. It's nice to meet you.

[ She smiles over at the new friend she'd made. ]

Have you been here long?

Nice to meet you, too!

I've been here for a little while. Not long by any means but long enough to get used to things. And you?

A while. I'm more or less used to things around here by now ... just trying to make the best of it all. My boyfriend's here, too, so that makes things a little easier. I know not everyone is that fortunate, though.

[ She peers over at the food Jane has. ]

What're you eating?

[ Whatever it is, it would taste better with Miso-- No, don't let her get a hold of your food like that. ]

Oh! Well, that is quite the lucky break. I'm glad you both have each other.

[Jane shows her: it's some kind of stew in a jar. Looks like there's some carrots and potatoes in there, maybe a little meat, but it's mostly veggies.] I work in the cannery most days, so I've been making meals there. There was some leftover from the batch I finished today.

Oh! It looks really good ... That reminds me, I need to pick up some food for Shing and I ...

[ She sighs a little and leans back against the monument. ]

What other things are you canning over there??

It's alright. It's made more to last than to taste particularly delicious, but it's better than the stuff that came out of cans where I'm from.

Let's see...it's vegetables and fruit, mostly. Whatever's grown from the farms.

Vegetables and Fruit are good, though! And if it's made to last then it's pretty perfect for what the Bastion might require. Especially when a whole bunch of us go out onto the Skyway and stuff.

That's exactly why I'm helping there! I think this sort of thing is important for our situation.

It really is! I know Rin makes hot meals and stuff for all of us but those meals only last so long, you know? They're also super yummy, so they really don't last that long.
