I think I've found another core.

I normally wouldn't even mention it to you guys, but since we couldn't use that last core, we can't afford to skip out on this one.

I doubt anyone can clear it out, even the Brushers refused to go there. I wouldn't even be asking you to go if we didn't really need this core.

How far out is it? The logistics could become a problem here.

What else can you tell us about what's living out there?

It's not as far as some of the other places we have gone, but it will definitely take a couple hours to get there and back. The big worry there is the plants. Most of them will attack you, kill you, eat you, or hit you with various paralytic and mind-altering gasses.

Also, anklegators used to live there a long time ago. I'd thought they were extinct, but since Tama-chan exists and some of you saw that big one on the way to the Ura camp, it's possible that there might be one or more of them living there.

We didn't need to kill the last anklegator. We won't have the carts slowing us down, we should be able to outrun them.

The plants sound like the bigger problem.

The good news is, I'm immune to most human poisons. The bad news is, these might be in the exception range and I don't precisely want to test it.

That means we need a way to purify the air somehow. I... Don't have a spell for that. Closest I could do was gusts of wind, and that'd literally only buy us some seconds.

The creatures worry me less, though we'll want to stay armed and ready throughout the swamp. Once we reach the core, odds to evens we're going to have another large beast guarding it...

Considering what happened last time, I'm inclined to agree.

[Last time meaning the incident with the mechanical bull, not the incident with the plants. Ghaleon wasn't here for the latter.]

I can likely keep the air a set distance around me pure, although the concentration required may put me at a bit of a disadvantage against creatures we may come up against. I'd rather not have to test whether or not my current state grants immunity to hallucinogens.

My first thought is that we get hold of gas masks.

[Not strictly true! Her first-first thought was torching as much of that as possible ahead of time, but that seems like it's not much of a good idea.]

However, I expect we don't just have those lying around. Plus, I dunno how trustworthy they'd be. If they're old enough, they might even be dangerous to use depending on what's happened to the internal filters.

Avoiding anything big would probably be for the best anyway.

[And he didn't come fully unprepared! He's got gloves, hospital-type masks, and a couple long-sleeve coats for those who don't already wear long-sleeves.]

It's what I could come up with on short notice. If you come across any plants or gas clouds you can't avoid, these should protect you, at least temporarily. Try not to get stung by anything or breathe anything in, if you can.

The masks are only good for a couple hours before they need to be replaced, though, so only use them in an emergency.

I have a spare gas mask for use in hazmat work. Whoever's leading this little shindig should probably take that. Sight will be a little reduced, but you'll be safe from breathing in anything weird.

[He got to work on that when they first encountered these hallucinogens, and honestly, with a chemical workshop, gas masks are just smart ideas.]

Hm... that's not quite what I was thinking of, honestly, but considering they're just what you've scrounged up on short notice, that's quite good. Every little bit will prove useful, I'm sure.

[Back to Colin.] Excellent. I think a bit of reduction in peripheral vision is probably a small price to pay to not be afflicted with whatever those plants can throw at us. It's just kind of a shame we can't get more equipment on such short notice.

Do we know the nature of their poisons? I can only imagine plants would have a weakness to fire, but if that just releases their gasses with the smoke all it would do is help it travel farther.

I guess hacking them apart might not be much better.

And we might want to think about giving that gas mask to whoever could do the most harm if they lost their senses.

That could be quite a few of us, unfortunately. Perhaps someone should call in a favor from the Monument for some specific gear for this?

Yes, I think that would be wise, particularly for those of us who can use magic. Althena knows the one time I lost my senses was legendary, and I'm sure we'd all like to avoid anything remotely of that scale.

[Although the tone of the example is somewhat light, there is still the definite implication that it's not hyperbole.]
