[When Nathaniel calls for one of the all-too familiar meetings regarding cores, he looks pretty unhappy. In fact, he looks like he has some bad news to give. Whatever it is, everyone should come listen, because it's pretty important!]

The best answer to that is that a trainer is, above all, a friend to their Pokemon. Many trainers will battle with their Pokemon to help them become stronger. Other trainers just like to live alongside Pokemon as friends and loyal companions.

Ah... that latter one sounds like me, to be honest. I mean... if I have to fight, then I will, but... I'd much rather spend time with this one if I had a choice in the matter.

There's no problem with that, really. More than anything, Pokemon are friends.

I think Furfrou is happy just being with the people she cares about most. And one of them seems to be you, really, just by looking at how she reacts to you.

[ Furfrou happily nuzzles Nagei at that, proving Hilda's point rather nicely. ]

I know I really like spending time with Furfrou, as well!

[ Naegi laughs - that tickled a little! He responds by nuzzling her in return, hugging her and rubbing behind her ears affectionately. ]

... would it be okay? If she'd like it, then I don't see any problems with it.

I think it would be good for both of you, really.

[ She smiles brightly. Yaaay, another adoption! ]

Ah... thank you! Hear that, Furfrou?

[ Naegi can't help but grin as he hugged her tightly again, pausing for a moment to look at Hilda curiously. ]

Well... I heard from one of the Trainers that was here previously that you could groom a Furfrou much like you could a regular dog, so do you know how to do that? Also, since she's a Pokemon, she has a different diet than us, right?

[ Yep, he's got a lot of questions... ]

Well ... I honestly wouldn't know a lot about the various ways of grooming a Furfrou. Furfrou is a pokemon from the Kalos region, and I unfortunately never got the chance to go to Kalos myself ...

I'm sure she'd definitely appreciate getting her fur brushed frequently, though. And I guess if it gets too long we could find a way to trim it ...

[ Honestly, as much as she enjoys grooming her Pokemon, she doesn't really get into as much detail with their grooming as Furfrou seem to. ]

As for food, though, we can definitely provide you with that. Pokemon do have a specific set of food, even though some of them like to try and steal human food ...

[ There's a glance over at Emboar over there, who seemed to be listening in and gave her his best "I'm innocent!" face. ]

We try not to give them too much of our food, though.

I see...

[ That would make sense, really; he was reminded of a few times where he'd sneaked food to different animals at school, with varying results...

Nodding quietly, he frowned, tilted his head and looked at the other Pokemon in thought. ]

You said that some people use Pokemon for battling, right? Do they have abilities only they can use? If so... what kind of abilities?

[ He pauses to linger in particular on N's Zorua, who - as he recalled a while back - managed to transform into himself during his last visit to the daycare... ]

There are a lot of shared abilities between Pokemon. Very rarely is there an ability that is specific to one Pokemon.

[ Sure, Zorua has the ability to shapeshift, but so do other Pokemon. Like the Nanny Ditto they had here. ]

I see... I don't suppose you'd know what abilities Furfrou has, do you?

Or... what do you call those? Moves?

[ He's not looking to have her battle anytime in the foreseeable future, but from his expression it's pretty obvious he's just noting it for just in case it comes up. ]

Attacks, for the most part. When you're in a battle, pretty much anything is an offensive or defensive attack.

Are you thinking you might want to get involved in battles or anything at some point?

[ Not that it mattered all too much now. The Bastion was very different from her own world. ]

Not necessarily... I just want to know what Furfrou can do in case an emergency of some sort came up.

[ Because with the Bastion, well. Anything could happen, really. ]

. . . ah. I should probably come up with a nickname for her, too, huh...?

If you want to. Not everyone names their Pokemon, but some feel it's a good idea, and that naming their Pokemon friends gives them a bit more of a bond.

[ . . . ah.

There's a noticeable pause here and a quiet frown of thought as Naegi looks at Hilda, then turns to look at the Furfrou with a contemplative glance, studying her and trying to think of a nickname...

... before a particular person from his world suddenly springs to mind. Before he can catch himself, he ends up speaking aloud. ]

... how about Komaru?

[ "Komaru" barks happily at the idea. She seems to think it's a pretty name. Hilda giggles a bit, reaching out to pet the Furfrou's head. ]

I think she likes it. Komaru, then.

[ Naegi laughs quietly, smiling as he nods and gives the Forfrou a hug as well as some pets to the head. ]

I'm glad that she likes it, then!

I wanted to name her after someone who was always there to support me, even when things were going completely wrong. So... I figured "Komaru" was the most fitting name I could think of.

Ah ... that's really beautiful. I think she'll live up to that.

[ She rests against the fence. ]

So ... who is she named after?

... my little sister. We were very close, and she cheered me on when I got accepted into a prestigious academy back home. She's been my biggest support since, well... ever, really.

[ Naegi can't help but smile as he talks about her, letting himself reminisce a little. Remembering all the manga they'd read and make terrible commentary about... seeing who could make the most ridiculous sounds into electrical fans... even their stupid arguments like which of Maizono's songs were the best.

His expression becomes wistfully pensive as he closed his eyes. ]

A lot of things happened since then, with this whole Calamity jsut taking the cake. I can only hope she's found shelter in a settlement elsewhere...

That's a pretty big name to live up to ...

[ She's kind of jealous. She wishes she had siblings. She did have Cheren and Bianca, though, and they were pretty close ... ]

It's an honor, to be named after someone that special. Isn't it, Komaru?

[ Komaru barks again, happily. ]

I think she lives up to her namesake quite well, though! She's cheered me up quite a few times already, when things have gotten too hectic here in the Bastion.

Right, Komaru?

[ Naegi laughs, smiling as he scratches behind the Furfrou's ears in appreciation. ]

I don't think I got to express my appreciation until now, so... thank you.

[ Komaru nuzzles against him happily. ]

She really appreciates your company, too, I think. We've all kind of lost a lot in this place. We all help each other.

Mm-hmm... it's nice, actually. It feels like a complete contrast back where I'm from, honestly.

[ There's a dark expression on his face that lingers for only a few moments before he goes back to being cheerful, though his smile is a bit strained after. ]

In a way, I don't think it's all bad because we all got to meet each other. And... I believe that as long as we're all still here, we can move forward together.

Right. We can.

All things considered, I think we're all working together to move forward pretty well.

[ She reaches over and pets Komaru a bit more. ]

Mm-hmm...

[ That's all Naegi says for now as he examines Komaru, tilting his head and looking at her curiously. ]

. . . so, uh. Since I'm here, is there anything in particular I should know about Komaru?

Umm ... off the top of my head, I can't really think of anything that hasn't been discussed. Just treat her well, which I figure you'll do anyway. She's a friend, above all else.
