Day 244 :: This is not a proper wasteland, damnit! [OPEN]
Who: Maya Schroedinger and anyone
Open: Open
When: Day 244
Where: Around the monument
What: Maya Schroedinger tries tosteal inspect the monument.
Format: Will match yours.
Warnings: N/A
It hadn't been Maya's day, that was for sure. Waking up in what looked like a dried-up wasteland was, well, normal for her. Not waking up with her team at her side, however, was not.
Nor was discovering that the world had been torn apart, that there were only patches left! And the only remotely stable place might as well be on another continent, with the constant shifting of this sorry excuse of 'ground'!
Traversing this all had been a much needed distraction, though. It had forced her to move ever forward, to put her worries about Alfred, Todd, even Shady, not to mention Virginia and some others on the back of her mind.
And it had left her angry, really angry. Her only wish: To have a very stern talk with whoever was responsible for this, all of it. And then shoot them in the face!
After quite an odyssey, she had finally arrived at what was apparently called the Bastion. It didn't even look like anything from her world, and the crazy rambling of the only person she had met so far (the poor NPC mentioned in the FAQ) hadn't helped at all. At least he had given her an amulet with a pretty gem embedded into it, that alleviated her mood somewhat. What she had spotted shortly afterwards, though... that was different and immediately distracted her from everything else, including the toll the travel had taken on her.
The monument. Or, rather, the fact that a part of it resembled a large, pretty gem. Pretty much a mystical mega-sized gem, practically asking for her totake embrace it!
And thus, she started circling the monument. Could it be transported? What about the people that no doubt lived in this blasted place? Maybe a distraction would be needed...
[Your character can spot her walking around the monument, poking it, trying to climb it, trying to take a sample, in other words being totally suspicious and/or nuts.
Alternatively, she might spot your character, in which case she'd shout a "Hey, you! Yes, you! Get over here!" and point at them - Maya is anything but shy when it comes to requesting information on gems and gem-like objects!
And she'll likely continue to do all of this even after the first person tries to tell her off. She can be pretty persistent!]

[He said, jerking a thumb towards some of the various visible abodes of the Bastion. It couldn't ever be said that the Bastion wasn't capable of some incredible things, but it did have it's limits.]
T'Monument can create some amazin' things though, that's fer sure.

[She wasn't going to give up that quickly. She had, after all, decided that one day, she'd make her world hers. Although the means for that were more distant than ever, it seemed...
...And it probably would be wise to listen more to the oddly knowledgeable little one. ]
You've seen it used a lot, I take it? What's the most odd, unusual thing that anyone ever made with it?
no subject
[The answer was almost automatic, said without any thought or hesitation. Who'd ever heard of a tree that produced pastries from it? He hadn't, and he'd seen a lot of strange things in his time.]
Dunno who did it or why, but I can show ya if y'don't believe me.
no subject
[That one surprised Maya quite a bit, but then she was from a world where plants were not exactly thriving. She blinked a few times, before regaining composure. Come to think of it, they really did have a lot of vegetation here...]
Now that's something I'd like to see.

[He said, giving the woman a small wave of his hand as he turned on his heel and began to march towards the impossible tree. It wasn't that far a jaunt away, the monument itself was still well in sight when they came to a rather innocuous looking tree; that is, until the small man gave it a firm whack with the side of his closed fist.
and out fell one lone pastry, round in shape and covered in pink frosting and sprinkles, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. He caught it in his free hand and tossed it over to the new arrival.]
Go on, take a taste. They're as real as real gets.
no subject
...that was a tree. Pastries were baked, they couldn't...
...]
This better not be some sort of hazing for new arrivals.
[She gave the pastry a glare full of suspicion. It looked alright. But... How could it be? Still, she took a careful bite. And then another.]
That's mwot hamf bad!

[Raile, you ain't lying.]
no subject
[If it was so important, that would be a pretty good idea.
And then she could grab the treasured one without the place possibly falling apart! Well, after finding a way to moving it in the first place... ...No, probably not such a great idea after all.]no subject
I s'pose, y'could make somethin' that looked like t'monument, but I don't think it could handle makin' a copy of itself. It handles a lot o'energy 'round here, deals in a lot o'things in ways we don't even understand...tryin' to replicate that kinda fancy inner workin's is askin' fer trouble. Weren't a bad thought though.
[He added at the end. If the Bastion had two monuments, then perhaps they wouldn't have to worry about the energy crisis they were dealing with; that'd be too easy though.]
no subject
[She looked quite peeved about that, then sighed.]
I suppose I have to really leave it alone for now. If those shards you mentioned can make trees like this, some of those might be a worthy goal... for a start. The bigger, special ones, that is. Those exist, right?
[Well, there ought to be bigger, better shards around! Or so Maya thought. It'd certainly feel more worthy a goal...]
no subject
[Raile pondered this for a moment, thinking about the information in relation to the things Maya wanted. She seemed to be looking for a challenge rather than anything concrete; something to work for rather than to just gain. If so...]
They're usually in t'most dangerous places round here, more often 'an not, guarded by dangerous things. Gettin' 'm back here though, that's what keeps t'Bastion going, even let's y'add on new things to it. If yer lookin' for somethin' big t'go after, ain't no bigger prize t'look for out here.
no subject
Of course, I do also have experience when it comes to dealing with dangerous things. Where'd you find those cores? Abandoned ruins, ancient mines, dingy places like those?
no subject
[Well, if this woman had one thing going for her, it was that she had some idea of where to start looking at the very least. It seemed this wasn't her first rodeo, so to speak.]
You some kinda adventurein' type?
no subject
[Well, in her credit, she actually believed that boast of hers for the most part. She was really fond of the 'Disaster girl of the wasteland', after all!]
Those cores really sound like one of my usual goals, in a way. Though unlike at home, they probably aren't connected to this world's decay. Or are they?
...They aren't, right?
no subject
[The Calamity was to blame for that, but good luck asking him for any details; that was Mancer business, nothing he knew anything about.]
Sounds like y'll be right at home then. If there's one thing we got here, it's danger.
no subject
[Not that she didn't miss them...]
So, how it works here is that this is your safe zone, and then the capable folks head out for shards, while the really capable ones go for cores?
Seems sensible.
no subject
[He said, giving Maya an nod in affirmation to her statement.]
I'd like t'think there's some sense in it, the better we work t'gether, the less we come back in pieces.
no subject
['On my own' meaning 'alongside Todd, Shady and Alfred', of course, but then her definition of 'on my own' had always been a tad shady. Really, for all her posturing, she had always done things in a team. She just had ruled out teaming up with other teams - or, rather, a particular team....]
...but I guess I could lend a helping hand sometimes.
[That didn't mean she might not squabble for a particularly pretty core, though...]
no subject
[He'd never seen the Bastion do these kinds of things before when given cores, but he guessed that it had to do with the amount of people. Maybe it could just tell when there were enough people around that it needed certain places.]
no subject
IF this place gets healthier due to it, it'd be a side-effect at most.
[WEll, if she said so. She seemed determined enough to believe it. Or make one believe it, perhaps.]
no subject
[He said, turning around and raising his hand up. He figured the lady could figure things out from here, she had the basic info she needed and it didn't look like she'd do anything to cause the Bastion to fall out of the air. As for him, he had places to be out on the Skyway.]
I'll be seein' ya, I'm sure. Take care till then.
no subject
[She raised one of her hands, returning his gesture, then looked at the monument again.
And sighed. What was up with her bad luck concerning things like this? Sheesh!]
