209 :: Open | BACKDATED -> CURRENT

Who: Duke, Anyone
Open: Open
When: day 209 -> 212
Where: Hospital
What: Duke is coughing again, and not happy about it
Format: I'll follow
Warnings: Angry sick people, coughing up gunk (Guess who got bronchitis-)

Duke hadn't gone back to the hospital right off the bat when the cough stuck around because talking was still uncomfortable and lots of things triggered coughing fits. Cleaning the apartment had, simple exercises in the training hall had, spicy food had. The knight had simply increased fluid intake and gone after fruits more and hoped it was just irritation from the plague and all of that coughing.

Coughing and stabbing pain, that was alarming. Particularly when the coughing produced an handful of ... yellow goo. Yeah, after scrubbing that off, its time to gather up a bundle of shards and head past the monument. If there's no one around, Duke will try to get a book before heading toward the hospital and ... camping there until the knight figures out what's wrong this time.

-----

Any later date, Duke is pouring over books. And grouchy. Breathing is a pain in the ass, and this time the knight is aware for all of it.

And, true to form, Colin isn't leaving well enough alone. Even now that Duke's gone back home, Colin's still dropping by to do covert scans and make sure everything's all right. No sense in letting anyone get caught with complications. If it helps, Duke, Colin's doing it with everyone.

When he doesn't find Duke at home, he starts searching the Bastion. If that woman had gone back out onto the skyway THIS SOON after recovering, the gloves were going to come off. But, it looks like Duke's actually gone back to the hospital? That's... worrying. But it's still as good a cause as any to give her a scan.

"Hey Duke," Colin says, studying her. "I'm surprised to see you back here."

"Which is absolutely not a good thing," Colin says, sighing. "Or particularly natural, I might add. Your respiration is restricted. You went and pushed yourself after getting out last time, didn't you?"

Colin's in ur hospital room, judgin' u.

"Walking too much is pushing yourself after a plague, Duke," Colin says, looking suitably unimpressed. "Recovery time is just as important as actually getting cured of a disease. Who knows what you did..."

He walks over to her, giving the book in her possession a quick glance. "How are you feeling?" he asks. "And, for that matter, what are you reading?"

"Understandable. Nobody enjoys getting sick, especially not when your immune system lets something else in because it's been too busy against something else," Colin says, transcribing Duke's statements into a file for Yukio to review.

"I can see about getting you some tomes on Corsican healing magic," Colin says, then he frowns. "Wait, not likely to be something you can read. Dammit, sorry. I don't think even I can read those... Damn magic is beyond me in most cases."

"Corsicans were originally a colony of the Elerian empire," Colin says, his voice easily slipping into a light lecture mode. "The language is its own dialect, tempered after about a century and a half of independence. It's descended from a Draconic tongue, though as Paar proves, not all Dragon languages are the same either..."

Colin grabs a chair and pulls it closer to the bed, sitting down on it. "And unfortunately, I'm not really a big student on what magic looks like," he says. "When it's performed, or how its scribing looks. I've got a couple of books in here somewhere, but... even if it's formulas, it may be useless."

"Most life has some form of communications, from grunts and growls, to pheromones, to flickering colors, to outright speech," Colin says, nodding. "There are scholars all across the galaxy who devote their lives to understanding such things. ... Vaguely."

Most animals DON'T have much more to say than "Get away from my food."

"And yeah, for as amazing as mysticism is as a field, there are as many branches of it as there are societies," Colin says. "My wife's magic is completely different from my sister's, for example. And my mom's is completely different from BOTH of theirs, and she taught my sister!"

He smirks and gives the book another curious look. "So, has that book given you anything to help you out here?" he asks.
